Sullivan University Environmental Science Discussion
You will download this word document, it has instructions on page one and the following pages are the questions you need to answer. For this assignment you will need to find a news story that relates to the topics we’ve learned during this course to assess. The article cannot be older than 6 months and should consist of at least 4 paragraphs of content. As you are considering the question of bias, you might want to visit this website (AllSides) where they classify various news outlets as being either left, center or right.I am going to post each discussion we’ve had from each week. You can chose a topic from any of those WEEK ONE-Chapter 3 in our textbook introduces several environmentalists throughout history. I would like for you to think of an environmentalist as anyone who cares about the environment (hopefully that includes you!). For this discussion post do some research and find someone that would likely be recognized by most people in the class (famous athlete, actor, politician etc…) and make a case for how they are an environmentalist. I want this person to be alive today, so no historical figures. Also Greta Thunberg is off the table, she’s well known for being an environmentalist, she’s not well known for another reason who also happens to care about the environment. WEEK TWO-We learn in chapter 15 about conservation efforts to protect endangered species. There are some groups that are trying to approach this issue from a different angle, they are working to bring species back from extinction (this is called de-extinction). One well known example of this is the research group working to bring the Woolly Mammoth back. There are several TedTalks that explain what is happening and how they’re doing it. My favorite is from 2013 and I’ve linked it here. Colossal is the name of a company that is actively working to achieve de-extinction. For the discussion board this week I’d like you to visit their website and explore the “de-extinction” page. I hoping we can get a lively discussion going this week about this concept. Questions to think about as you write your post:WEEK THREE-The content this week has a big focus on water resources. For the discussion this week, you can either focus on freshwater resources or marine (ocean) resources.Freshwater – I would argue that this is one of our most valuable resources. We have very little freshwater and we don’t always use it responsibly. Do some research into a couple of practices that we can try to incorporate into our lives to use our freshwater resources more sustainably.Marine – Ocean resources are unique in that they are not “owned” by anyone. The water bordering a country is under the protection of that country, but the open ocean does not belong to any one group of people. This makes regulating what happens in the ocean, and taking responsibility for cleaning it up a complicated matter. If you choose to focus on marine resources this week I’d love to hear your ideas on what we can do to better care for our oceans. Do some research to support whatever ideas you share. WEEK FOUR-This week we are learning about what happens to our solid waste. We are very much a consumer driven society and we make a LOT of waste in our daily lives! For the discussion this week I want everyone to do a 24 hour waste audit. You can download this sheet to keep track of what you consume for a 24 hours period and what will happen to the waste that you generate doing what you do during that time. You don’t need to use the sheet, but it’s a good guide to help you think through what you are using, writing some notes about your waste on scrap paper or tracking it in a note on your phone is fine too. The sheet was originally created for an event in 2018, but it will work fine for us to use as we examine our own practices today. For your initial post, lets look at recycling. After you’ve completed your waste audit you can post the results either as a part of your initial post (if you see the instructions in time for that) or you can comment on your own post with some conclusions based on your audit. Things to think about after your audit:WEEK FIVE-This week we learned about air pollution and the accumulation of greenhouse gasses. We know that burning fossil fuels (like gasoline in automobiles) is a major contributor of greenhouse gasses. In April the EPA proposed changes to the regulation of emmissions that seem poised to push the production of Electric Vehicles (EVs) way up (see this news story from CNN).For the discussion this week I’d love to hear your thoughts, supported by research, on whether or not we should be giving up on alternative fuels (like biofuel) and going all in on EVs. A few questions to consider:WEEK SIX-We learned this week that fossil fuels are finite and most predictions have them running out within the next 100 years or so. We also learned that the cost of most renewable sources of energy has come down to a point where they are comparable to the cost of fossil fuels. This begs a few questions:

How to Access Rosetta Stone
When you have completed Unit 1 of Rosetta Stone, please submit a Learner Progress Report in PDF (see instructions attached).
Please be advised that this course contains four units of Rosetta Stone, meaning 16 lessons over the course of 8 weeks. Twenty percent of your course grade comes from the completion of these 16 lessons comprising the 4 units.
There are two ways to receive credit for the Rosetta Stone portion. Choose one of the two options. If you have no experience in the French language, I strongly recommend option one.
Option A, Full Completion: Complete 100% of the exercises from the four lessons and reviews in each of the four units. In other words, to receive 100% credit, complete 100% of the Rosetta Stone exercises available to you. If you are a beginning student and you want to learn the language, this is the option that we would most recommend to you.
Option B, Performance on Core Lessons and Milestones: At the beginning of each of the sixteen lessons, you will find a Core Lesson. To receive full credit for the Unit, you must achieve a score of 80% or higher on each of the four Core Lessons and on the Milestone at the end of each unit. This means five completed activities for each unit, with a score of 80% or better on each of the five. If you already understand the language and you would like to certify that knowledge with college credit, this is the option that we would recommend to you. This is not recommended for students with no prior knowledge of the language. (If you choose this option, you do not have to complete all of the lessons in the unit.)
To gain access to Rosetta Stone, click on Course Materials in the online classroom then French I. You can check to make sure you are in the right section by comparing the content with Lessons or our Weekly Schedule. You should work through the four units (with four lessons and a review in each unit) of the program at the pace outlined in the schedule below.
Remember that you must complete two lessons per week. That means approximately every three days you must complete a lesson. I encourage you to pace yourself. Repetition and regularity are an essential elements of successful language acquisition and will greatly improve your average. I highly recommend working with Rosetta Stone for 45 to 60 minutes every single day rather than three or six hours once or twice per week. I encourage you to repeat the exercises as much as you need to achieve the scores and level of comprehension that make you comfortable.
Once you complete each UNIT (at the end of each two-week period), you should submit the unit via Assignments and attach a Learner Progress Report as a PDF attachment (Not Excel please). Instructions for doing so are under assignments and resources. These reports can give you an excellent indicator of your individual progress. Do not submit a unit via assignments until it is complete, and you are ready to be graded.
MDM and Cloud Computing Security Discussion

Mobile device management will allow for the mobile devices to be managed, identified and allow for file sync. What can Mobile device management preform to mobile devices? Well, it will allow for the devices to be inventory and tracked making it easy to know where all the mobile devices are located. It also allows for the IT team to distribute apps such as company required apps and phone protection software such as anti-virus. It can also the IT team to prevent software from being installed to mobile devices. IT can also assist in setting policies such as password enforcement and data encryption. Lastly worst case scenario it can remote wipe the device. As you can see the Mobile Device Management (MDM) can give the IT team full access and control of the devices. However, if a hacker is able to get into the Mobile Device Management it will also allow them to gain full control of those mobile devices. Retrieved from Discussion Question 2:What are the benefits of implementing virtualization in cloud computing?I personally am full in on cloud computing mostly due to I don’t think the cost savings is truly thought out and I have a few security concerns from lessons in the past. The two benefits that I could see is Failover and internal cost-effective. In AWS the way you should set up your workload is across two or more AZ or availability zone and two or more VPC or Virtual private cloud. The availability zone should be set up so one is on the east coast and the other in mid-west. This will protect you from events that may shut down a location or the east coast, etc. However, if your on-prem was setup correctly you would also have a failover site setup the same way. Cloud computing could be cost-effective but I’m not sold on this fact. In both on-prem and cloud computing, you have to pay someone to build and maintain the VMs. The biggest cost saving I see is the cost of the server up front that you will have to pay on-prem. Cloud computing doesn’t have this high cost up front and also you don’t have to pay for part failures, such as hard drives and CPUs failing, etc. In Cloud, you are also on up to date technologies. However, you are paying and always paying for CPUs, Memory, and storage use. For now, there will be a point where if you can keep a server up and operational it will have been cheaper to buy an on-prem server then to use cloud computing.

You are the Commander of the Patrol Division of a medium-sized metropolitan city.ÿYou have 33 patrols out on the 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. shift.ÿIt is by far the busiest shift for drunk driving, burglaries, domestic calls, and ATM robberies.ÿThe esprit de corps is very high.ÿLately, you have notice that one of the busiest sector units is dropping off in productivity.ÿYou ask around and find out that the partners in that car are a veteran officer, a married man, and a single young female rookie.
The rumor among the rest of the unit is that they are more than just professional partners.ÿLast week, the chief called you into his office and asked about the drop in activity for the club sector of the city, where the patrol unit of concern is working. He got you to admit that there may be an unconfirmed problem.ÿThe chief told you that he wanted to know the complete situation and that you were to formulate a plan for dealing with the male/female patrol situation and then to come up with ideas to keep this pattern from emerging again in the future.ÿThe department currently has no policies about off-duty relationships of partners.
In a report to the chief of police, you will cite the findings of your investigation of the patrol partners concerned.ÿYou will provide at least 2 remedies for the situation so that it is discontinued.ÿYou will consider the lack of a fraternization policy in the department and suggest the minimum requirements of items that should be in a new policy for the department.ÿYou will include and indicate the types of discipline that should be applied to persons violating the new policy in the future.
Assignment Guidelines
Address the following in 2 pages:
Howÿcan the behavior on the part of the opposite-gender police partners affect the culture of the patrol unit? Explain.
What dangersÿcould arise in an intimate relationship between partners as it pertains to the daily operations of patrol? Explain.
How can these dangers act as triggers of stress? Be specific.
Articulate at least 3 appropriate policy measures that should be in effect to help alleviate this type of situation.
Fully justify your policy measures with regard to the survival of a traumatic event.
What possible potential stressors could become present if theÿaffair of theÿtwo officers reached the public? Explain.
Remember to use research to fully support your arguments.

Both individuals thought that the test results concerning my personality constructs, styles, and type fit me well. They both acknowledged that I have always been a responsible, out-going, social, and most importantly, just me. My reaction to their responses was general. Given that I know them, and I felt I had already known what they were going to say, my predictions were correct. That is one good quality I have, and that is predicting situations with others and most of the time, my predictions are confirmed!Comparison(EMPHASIZE MORE ON THIS PROMPT PLEASE- You should compare and contrast this assessment with others you may have completed in other settings.) I have completed another personality test using the ?Myers Briggs? assessment and each time, the results are nearly the same. I am not sure if it is because I have an insight as to what questions will be answered given I had already done the tests. However, the very first time I remember taking was about 2 years ago, I was curious to learn about my personality style and this was before entering any psychology course. So, I was unaware of what the results truly indicated because of being unknown to the terminology presented. Week 2 Discussion: How Sociologists Conduct Research
Must post first.Subscribed
Sociologist Rik Scarce went to jail because he refused to identify someone who was thought to be his research participant and had engaged in criminal activity. In Scarce’s view, to identify his research participants would have violated the confidentiality that he had promised them. Please read the article about Rik Scarce (linked below), as well as the Week 2 learning resources. This discussion question has two parts:
Part 1. Do you think that Rik Scarce should have gone to jail for protecting the identity of his research participant? Why or why not? Are there any particular situations you can think of in which a researcher should name their participants and in which they should not name their participants? Based on what you learned in this week’s learning resources, what do you think the most ethical approach would be to resolving situations when researchers are asked to identify their research participants?
Part 2. Reviewing the various types of research in the Week 2 learning resources, which research method do you think would be most vulnerable to ethical problems? Which research method do you think would be least vulnerable to ethical problems? Please explain your answers in light of the Week 2 learning resources.

Renewable Solar Energy for Homes Research Paper
The topic of the research paper must be about renewable solar energy for homes and it must be written from a Christian perspective. The thesis statement must include the problem, possible approaches or solutions, and the writer?s proposed approach must be expressed in this statement. I would like the thesis statement to be based on the following: eliminating our usage of fossil fuels to generate energy by implementing and utilizing renewable solar energy that provides energy (free-of-charge) to anyone having the necessary equipment to capture it?thus reducing the need of electric public utility companies and creating incentives for people everywhere to stop using them (both the public utility companies and the fossil fuels which pollute and contaminate our environment). The research paper should analyze the data gathered from various sources and reach a conclusion on an issue or problem that has been raised in the thesis statement. I want the conclusion of the research paper to mention that solar energy is the best of all the renewables since every single person on this planet having sunlight, in every climate, location, etc. is able to capture and utilize it using solar panels, an inverter, and store the energy using batteries. With this energy at hand, people are able to charge their electric cars, power their homes, etc. and in some countries they are even able to sell excess energy/feed it back into the national power grid. I also want the conclusion to mention that as stewards of God?s creation, we need to care for and protect the environment with which we have been entrusted and make the first step in ensuring that our planet will be environmentally clean for us and future generations. Please also do mention the recent advancements in solar panel technology and the types that are currently available. The audience of the research paper should be that of the average person, so everything must be written in an understandable manner, and all terms that are unfamiliar must be defined. Please pay special attention to the Outline Guidelines 1-3 that I have uploaded and follow the instructions carefully. A final revision of the general outline should be made to accurately reflect the proper order of the material covered in the final draft of the paper. The final revision would be the detailed outline. It should contain a thesis statement and three main sections (headings) that include subheadings and supporting details. When taking notes, incorporate or delete certain ideas in the outline. In this way you will be able to determine areas you may have neglected or overemphasized. After you have established the accuracy of the general outline, make sure that the points are in the best order.

Retrieved from For each SLP question below, select three articles (published within the past five years), each from different peer-reviewed academic journals/magazines. [Utilize the above publications or other peer-reviewed academic journal/magazine publications you find through the Trident Online Library.] Find articles that specifically address the following:In your 2-page submission (not counting the cover page), create a 2-sided flyer that HR department staff can give to each person laid off due to Mergers & Acquisitions or a Reduction-in-Force. Include both a cover page and reference page for this assignment. These can be a separate document from the flyer. Experiment with using Microsoft Publisher or its equivalent free program found online for the 2-page flyer (a tri-fold flyer might work best for you?you could then put the references on the middle back column). Keeping the seriousness of the topic in mind, use color, but keep the flyer business-like without flamboyance. If you use a tri-fold template in Word or Publisher, plan your layout first so that once it is folded everything is in the right place.Upload your assignment to the appropriate Dropbox. Be sure to review your TurnItIn Originality report. If the score is over 20%, you may not be writing in your own words and you will need to contact your professor and arrange to revise and resubmit your assignment.Written Communications Assessed at the Emphasized LevelAs you may recall, in MGT302 (Organization Behavior and Teamwork) written communications was assessed at the ?introduced? level. Then, they were assessed at the ?reinforced? level in MGT407 (Principles of Human Resource Management) Case 3 where written communications are taken a step further by having you work on a submission that could be presented to a practitioner?s magazine for publication. Now, in MGT491 (Capstone in HRM), your written communications skills will be further developed and assessed at the ?emphasized? level. For this assignment you will create a brochure to give to laid-off employees that effectively communicates the impact a reduction-in-force has on the organization. The skills needed in these three assignments build on each other and offer you the opportunity to enhance and practice your written communications preparation skills. The grading rubric for written communications at the undergraduate level has been developed to measure student success in meeting the MGT407 Case 3 expectations related to written communications. Rubrics for the other two courses are included in their respective written communications assignments.Your submission will be assessed on the criteria found in the written communications grading rubric for this assignment:Privacy Policy | Contact
