Week 1 Starter Questions ? Product Design Philosophy

Respond to the following in a minimum of 100 words: What are the product design philosophies behind industrial design and design for manufacture and assembly? Which one do you think is more important in customer-focused product development?Provide an example of customer focused product development in your organization or an organization you have researchedThe product design philosophies behind industrial design focused on creating a product from the customer?s vision. This includes physical appeal, and ease of use of the product. Design for manufacture and assembly typically focuses on what?s best for the manufacturer to make. Is it a complicated design? How many parts does it include? How long will this take to make? These are common questions manufacturers may take into consideration.  To me, I believe that industrial design is more important in customer-focused product development because at the end of the day, the customer/user is going to be vocal (via word of mouth, social media) about what the product looks like, how easy or difficult the product is to use.  An example of customer – focused product development would be Netflix. Netflix (like most educators) rely heavily on data to make customer-focused product decisions. ?The company relies heavily on traditional market research, but wanted to augment it with social media insights…? With Netflix utilizing social media when making product decisions, they are able to get instant feedback based on exactly what the customer is feeling at that time. This approach allows them to make adjustments a lot faster than other companies.  An example of an unsuccessful introduction of a new product would be ?New Coke? back in 1985. The development of this product nearly crushed The Coca-Cola Company. ?It was one of the first ideas in our Season 3 brainstorm, the Duffer Brothers, as they are listed in the credits, said in a joint email interview. ?It was the summer of ?85, and when you talk about pop culture moments, New Coke was a really big deal. It would have been more bizarre to not include it? (Koblin, 2019, para. 6). It was developed with the idea that it would make its product better and keep up with the times, but it was huge backlash from its customers. The product was a big failure. As a former employee, they still celebrate the change back to Coke from the New coke as Coca-Cola wouldn’t be here otherwise.

In this assignment, you will evaluate a current organizational | Business Operations | Southern New Hampshire University

ÿ
Scenario
You work for an organization that has traditionally been very formalized, and managers have had a very broad span of control over direct reports from multiple departments and functions. This worked well in the past; managers were able to oversee a high number of direct reports because there were many rules and regulations dictating how their work should be performed. However, there were downsides. Employee talent was underused, and there wasn?t a strong team culture, as most work was done independently according to standard operating processes.
Recently, the organization has been shifting to less formalized working structures to support more creative, innovative work and provide employees with more autonomy. While employees are happy with the purpose of these new changes, managers are feeling overwhelmed, and employees are feeling undersupported. This has impacted function-specific work the most, because in the past, managers didn?t need to understand in-depth, function-specific tasks (such as the technical aspects of graphic design work or the intricacies of project management). Instead, they had the ability to rely on rules, regulations, and standard operating processes. Employees have also noticed a lack of communication around current projects, which has led to a lack of updated information and duplicated work across management teams.
You have been asked to work with the human resources department to recommend a new organizational structure that addresses these identified management and communication concerns.
Prompt
Use the Module Six Assignment Template located in the Guidelines for Submission section to create an updated organizational structure chart for the organization. Then, in a separate Word document, write a brief explanation for your recommended changes and how they will impact both organizational communication and overall team dynamics.
Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:

Updated Organizational Structure Chart: Create an updated organizational structure chart that addresses management and communication concerns.
Explanation of Changes: Explain your reasoning for why you made the changes you did to the company?s organizational structure. Include how your changes differ from the original and why you believe they would benefit the organization.
Impact on Organizational Communication: Describe the impact these changes will have on the company?s overall organizational communication.
Impact on Team Communication: Describe the impact these changes will have on the company?s overall team communication and reporting structure.

Guidelines for Submission
Submit your completed Module Six Assignment Templateÿas a PPT file. Submit your separate, written submission as a 2- to 3-page Word document with 12-point Times New Roman font, double spacing, and one-inch margins.

One of the ways to view the concept of risk management is by looking at it as a process. It is a process that entails identifying, analyzing as well as responding to risk factors. Essentially, proper risk management does imply the control of possible future events as well as it should be proactive rather than reactive (Bobylev, n.d.). I can go further and talk about risk management systems, which are designed to do more than just identify the risk. The system must also be able to quantify the risk and predict the impact of the risk on critical infrastructure. Managing risk should therefore be viewed as a continuous process. What is the relationship between countermeasures or mitigations and risk management? To answer I think that in the evolution of our risk management strategy, we should develop context-specific relationships between risk and countermeasure, as different security measures will come into play in different situations. This is where I think the aspect usually comes in. Because of the numerous numbers of critical infrastructures, which vary by nature of definition and operation, there is a chance that some might be neglected. Neglect can be as a result of human tendency to focus on the critical infrastructures that are perceived to more important than others. This is wrong because all critical infrastructures should be viewed as an interdependent network that is designed to support each both directly and indirectly. This is brings in the issue of availability of resources to the relevant agencies that are tasked with effective risk management. For developed countries, the issue of resources is not seen as a problem but for developing and underdeveloped countries, it is a major factor. Take for example, a country in Africa where its source of water for drinking by the people needs a risk management plan that takes into consideration past, present and the ever changing nature of different threats such as terrorism. A lot of resources is required to establish and sustain such a risk management plan. The purpose of a risk analysis is to identify assets, threats to those assets, the potential loss to an organization due to threats, and finally, how to respond to that potential loss (Thomas & Norman, 2009).ReferencesBobylev, N. P13-13 (liability errors) you are the independent auditor engaged to

P13-13 (Liability Errors)ÿYou are the independent auditor engaged to audit Millay Corporation’s December 31, 2014, financial statements. Millay manufactures household appliances. During the course of your audit, you discovered the following contingent liabilities.

1.Millay began production of a new dishwasher in June 2014 and, by December 31, 2014, sold 120,000 to various retailers for $500 each. Each dishwasher is under a one-year warranty. The company estimates that its warranty expense per dishwasher will amount to $25. At year-end, the company had already paid out $1,000,000 in warranty expenses. Millay’s income statement shows warranty expenses of $1,000,000 for 2014. Millay accounts for warranty costs on the accrual basis.
2.In response to your attorney’s letter, Morgan Sondgeroth, Esq., has informed you that Millay has been cited for dumping toxic waste into the Kishwaukee River. Clean-up costs and fines amount to $2,750,000. Although the case is still being contested, Sondgeroth is certain that Millay will most probably have to pay the fine and clean-up costs. No disclosure of this situation was found in the financial statements.
3.Millay is the defendant in a patent infringement lawsuit by Megan Drabek over Millay’s use of a hydraulic compressor in several of its products. Sondgeroth claims that, if the suit goes against Millay, the loss may be as much as $5,000,000. However, Sondgeroth believes the loss of this suit to be only reasonably possible. Again, no mention of this suit is made in the financial statements.
