PS 540 Organizational Change & Consolidating Change Discussion

Organizational ChangeIn almost all cases, an organization employs an I/O Psychologist to recommend steps for, or to oversee, organizational change. If everything were fine, there would probably be no need to engage a human behavior expert to modify the behavior of the organization or its staff! I/O Psychology, like all fields of Psychology, is grounded as much as possible in an evidence-base emerging from research studies. Therefore, it is essential for you when working in the field of I/O Psychology to understand the studies that have been conducted on organizational change. You will be exploring these in greater depth during this unit?s Discussion.Chapter 26 in your textbook presents the results of a meta-analysis of hundreds of organizational change studies. Following proper meta-analytic procedure, the results of these studies were translated into a common metric of effect size, called d. The d-Effect is interpreted as follows:d                                               Degree of Improvement.01 – .24                                   Very small improvement.25 – .49                                   Small improvement.50 – .74                                   Moderate improvement.75 – .99                                   Large improvement1.00 & larger                          Very large improvementOn pages 631?637, the authors present the effect sizes for organizational change efforts aimed at many different aspects of organizations, such as productivity and employee withdrawal behaviors. They also present the effect sizes for organizational change efforts in different types of organizations, such as government versus private sector, small versus large companies, etc.For this discussion:Please have a copy of: Lowman, R.L. (Ed.). (2002). Handbook of organizational consulting psychology. San Francisco, CA: Jossey-Bass.

This is a good one, because I think that we never really think about being attacked online until it actually happens! I can tell you, I just bought a new laptop recently, and I make sure to have virus scans and uppermost security on this bad boy. My biggest fear is having a virus just completely destroy my computer.Anyway, phishing is also a big thing in my unit, because a lot of the work done in my unit has to do with computers and other technology, people are also being targeted for phishing. Phishing is basically having you log onto a fake website (fake bank, fake MyPay, fake whatever) and basically input your information into it as though you are logging in. Then this allows access to your sensitive information, which is not so good! It’s especially bad with the military, because we have Common Access Cards (CaC) and if the information is stolen from those, that means all hell for that service member. Lots of information is linked to that account.Making sure you have the up to date virus software is the best thing you can do for your own security as well as for the overall health of your computer system.

Linkedin is a great way to utilize those who have worked with you in attempts to network and find job opportunities, but also have reputable references when applying for professional positions. Often times employers will use companies to help find employees fit for positions they are attempting to fill, and those companies will search through Linkedin to see if there are employees who fit the description, and contact them. I created a profile back in 2015 when first going to college at UMass Amherst, a horrible mistake at the time, but nonetheless a learning experience for me in both real life and work experience. It’s very simple, and requires an email, birthday, and name to confirm you are of age and in fact a real person. I would also recommending having a decent head shot of yourself that is up to date, as it will be the literal face of your first impression to those searching online. I may not use the site now, but once leaving the military, I can imagine it may help me out in some way, shape, or form.
