What is the project’s modified internal rate of return (MIRR)?
Applying Various Capital Budgeting MethodologiesThe objective of a firm is to maximize shareholder wealth. The Net Present Value (NPV) method is one of the useful methods that help financial managers to maximize shareholders’ wealth. Suppose the company that you selected for the Module 1 SLP is considering a new project that will have an initial cash outflow of $125,000,000. The project is expected to have the following cash inflows:Year Cash Flow ($)1 2,000,0002 3,500,0003 13,500,0004 89,750,0005 115,000,0006 120,000,000If the project’s cost of capital (discount rate) is 12.5%, what is the project’s NPV? Should the project be accepted? Why or why not? You may use the following steps to calculate NPV:1. Calculate present value (PV) of cash inflow (CF)PV of CF = CF1 / (1+r)^1 + CF2 / (1+r)^2 + CF3 / (1+r)^3 + CF4 / (1+r)^4 + CF5 / (1+r)^5 + CF6 / (1+r)^6Where the CFs are the cash flows and r = the project’s discount rate.2. Calculate NPVNPV = Total PV of CF – Initial cash outflowor -Initial cash outflow + Total PV of CFr = Discount rate (12.5%) If you do not know how to use Excel or a financial calculator for these calculations, please use the present value tables. Online Learning Center. (n.d.) Present and Future Value Tables. Retrieved from http://highered.mheducation.com/sites/0072994029/student_view0/present_and_future_value_tables.htmlAlso, consider reviewing http://www.tvmcalcs.com for financial calculator tutorials. Besides NPV, there are other capital budgeting methodologies including the regular payback period, discounted payback period, profitability index (PI), internal rate of return (IRR), and modified internal rate of return (MIRR). These methodologies don’t necessarily give the same accept/reject decisions as NPV. If the firm has a requirement that projects are paid back within 3 years, would the project be accepted based off the regular payback period? Why or why not? Would the project be accepted based off the discounted payback period? Why or why not? What is the project’s internal rate of return (IRR)? Based off IRR, should the project be accepted? Why or why not? Recall the project’s cost of capital is 12.5%. What is the project’s modified internal rate of return (MIRR)? Based off MIRR, should the project be accepted? Why or why not? What are the advantages/disadvantages of NPV, regular payback, discounted payback, PI, IRR, and MIRR? Present these advantages/disadvantages in a table. You are expected to: Whenever appropriate, please use Excel to show supporting computations in an appendix, present financial information in tables, and use the data computed to answer follow-up questions. In finance, in addition to being able to write well, it’s important to present information in a professional manner and to analyze financial information. This is part of the assignment expectations and will be considered for grading purposes.

Enforcement of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (REAL)
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) was created to enforce the Civil Rights Act of 1964. [They also enforce the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Pregnancy Discrimination Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and the Equal Pay Act.] They take thousands of enforcement actions every year. In 2020 alone and under the Civil Rights Act cases alone, the EEOC mediated over 5,000 settlements between employers and employees and resolved over 8,000 cases with decisions favorable to the employee with a total of $234 million dollars of monetary benefits.
Look at one or more of the types of discrimination listed on the webpage linked below, select one or more topic to read more about it, and summarize what you learn for your classmates to read and respond to.
https://www.eeoc.gov/discrimination-type (Links to an external site.)
Your summary should be clear writing of at least a good paragraph in length that helps explain exactly what the EEOC considers when deciding when to take enforcement action against a business. Your post should be in your own words, not cut and pasted from the website, and you should also make a separate post making a substantive comment on a fellow student’s summary. Two posts are required for this discussion.

consider how various media outlets depict “disabilities or illnesses” and compare and contrast these portrayals with one or two theoretical perspectives and/or practice models that inform social work practice.
- REFLECTIVE PAPER: PORTRAYALS OF ILLNESS AND DISABILITY IN THE MEDIA (30 POINTS)
Traditional models of understanding illness and disability such as the medical model were built on frameworks that focused on the individual, primarily pathology or deficit based. The purpose of this reflective paper is to consider how various media outlets depict “disabilities or illnesses” and compare and contrast these portrayals with one or two theoretical perspectives and/or practice models that inform social work practice. See Appendix B for requirements, instructions, and grading rubric. The paper must be submitted to the instructor via TURNITIN.
APPENDIX B
REFLECTION PAPER: MEDIA PORTRAYALS OF ILLNESS AND DISABILITY (30 POINTS)
As you complete your graduate education, viewing information from diverse sources through a “social work lens” can lead you to be a great advocate to those individuals, groups, or communities that may experience health disparities, illnesses, or disabilities. This is an opportunity to identify what you have learned, critically examine how the issue is presented to the general public and offer recommendations on how to advocate and promote the social work ethics and values such as dignity and worth of the person, the importance of human relationships, as well as our professional mission.
The purpose of this reflective paper is to consider how various media outlets portray “disabilities or illnesses” and compare and contrast these portrayals with one or two theoretical perspectives and/or practice models, which inform social work practice. Then, as an advocate, present recommendations on how the media source could have portrayed the topic from a strength-based or empowering position, incorporating the professional values and ethics of social work.
This reflective paper should be based on a full-length feature film. See the list below for suggestions. Other films that you may want to use must be approved by the instructor. Students may view movies in groups, but each student must write his/her own reflective paper.
- List of films, which cover a range of disabilities with accuracy. https://themighty.com/2015/02/oscar-nominated-films-that-got-disease-and-disability-right/
- Students may want to view the TED Talks listed below for inspiration and how to view illness and disabilities through a strength-based lens. https://www.ted.com/talks?sort=newest&topics%5B%5D=disability
Suggested Reflective Paper Outline. No more than 6 pages.
- State the film you reviewed and provide a BRIEF summary
- Identify the “illness/ disability” you will be addressing
- Describe how this experience is portrayed in the film. If you are focusing on a specific incident or sequence, please note this.
- Based on this, identify and explain how this experience fits a “viewpoint” about this illness or disability, for example, is it based on a medical model? A disability approach?
- Contrast this portrayal with a strength-based or another empowering model of social work practice that was covered in any of your coursework. You must explain what the approach is and describe how the situation or actor presented the issue(s).
- Then, as an advocate for this person/situation, provide recommendations on how the media source could have portrayed the topic from a strength-based or empowering position, incorporating social work values and ethics.
- NOTE: If the movie portrays the “illness or disability” through a strength-based or social work empowerment perspective, celebrate this and then offer how it could have been portrayed if a deficit model was used in the movie.
- Offer final thoughts of your own learning on any topic in this course.

Does Winter have an addiction? Or can we call this a harmless hobby? Your thoughts?
Instructions:
You will be required to complete a reaction paper related to a controversial topic with real world implications to addiction. This reaction paper is strictly an opinion-based paper with no right or wrong answer. In fact, I expect there will be many different RIGHT answers. However, you will be asked to support your opinion with either research you have come across or applied experiences. Considering our diverse backgrounds I look forward to a wide range of opinions.
While your individual opinion will be kept confidential between student and professor, I will summarize and report these back to the class as GROUP RESULTS. No individual will be identified.
The body of this paper is two pages in length (minimum and maximum) so you will need to be concise. You should also have a Title Page and References. Use APA format for in-text citations and references.
Reaction Paper: Related to the case study I included in the PowerPoint for Chapter 1. See media report on slide 7 or click on link below: http://www.chron.com/houston/article/Starbucks-biggest-fan-is-from-Houston-5804194.php#photo-6961782. What do you think about this dude, Winter Smith?
Back in 2005, when I was living in my home state of CT, I got this call from an amateur filmmaker who was doing a documentary on Smith. He ended up flying from Iowa (interesting that I live in Iowa now) to interview me and my students who had “analyzed” Winter in the Abnormal Psych course I was teaching at the time. The movie he produced was called Starbucking. I’m in it a couple of times and near the end of the film was specifically asked if I thought Winter had an addiction.
Likewise I will ask you the same question: Does Winter have an addiction? Or can we call this a harmless hobby? Your thoughts?
Besides the link above, if you Google Winter Smith Starbucks, you’ll get information on him going back to around 2002 or so which may help you to formulate your overall reaction to our case study’s behavior. Include at least one additional media report in your paper (in-text citation & in references).
Make sure at the end of the essay you include your vote (addiction: yes or no?).
The body of the paper should be two pages in length (minimum and maximum) so you will need to be concise. You should also have a Title Page and References. Use APA format for in-text citations and references. If I do not see that a vote has been clearly made, five points will be deducted from your overall score.

Neil v Biggers: Discuss what circumstances should be considered in determining fairness. Why are these circumstances important in determining the fairness of an identification procedure?
In Neil v. Biggers (1972) the Court determined that identification procedures must be fair. To determine whether the procedures were fair, courts must consider all the circumstances leading to the identification. Discuss what circumstances should be considered in determining fairness. Why are these circumstances important in determining the fairness of an identification procedure?
Which of these three types of job crafting do you think would be most appropriate for pilots, and which one do you think would be most appropriate for the online marketing team?
Case Assignment
In the background materials you had a chance to view some videos and read about the traditional “top down” approach of job redesign as well as the newer “bottom up” approach of job crafting. Before starting on this assignment, make sure you have thoroughly reviewed the videos and readings and understand the key job redesign and job crafting strategies. Once you have finished reviewing the background materials, apply what you’ve learned to the specific scenarios and questions below. Make sure to cite at least one of the required readings for each answer, and try to cite at least four of the readings or videos in your answer. Your paper should be 4–5 pages in length:1. The ABC Corporation has a team of telemarketers. The job description for the telemarketers is pretty basic: They call up potential customers who have visited his company’s web page and requested information about the product. Telemarketers’ performance evaluations depend mostly on their monthly sales as well as customer satisfaction surveys, and they receive monthly feedback reports. Their supervisor gives them some initial training, but these telemarketers have a lot of freedom to choose how and when to call customers. For example, they are free to customize their own sales pitch as long as they don’t mislead potential customers. Also, they are not required to fill out a time card or work at the office (they can work from home, if they want). As long as they are making enough monthly sales they are free to set their own schedules. While the telemarketing team is performing well, the company is concerned about high turnover among telemarketers and wants to do some job enrichment. Which of the five core job dimensions discussed in Bauer and Erdogan (2012) or page 9 of Griffin (2007) do you think should be revised the most during a job redesign intervention? Which ones do you think do not need to be revised? Explain your reasoning and cite some of the required readings in your answer.2. At the Grand Valley Medical Clinic there are four high-ranking employees. These include Dr. Roberts who specializes in pediatric medicine, Dr. Wilson who specializes in heart surgery, Dr. Drake who specializes in eye medicine, and Nurse Desser who does basic health check-ups for patients and refers patients to specialists as needed. They have all been working at the clinic for a long time and have strong performance records, but management is worried they are becoming bored and dissatisfied with their jobs and there is concern they might all leave unless their jobs change. However, given the high degree of training required for each of their specializations management is not sure how to go about making their jobs less monotonous and more rewarding. In general, would you recommend management undergoes a traditional job redesign approach or a job crafting approach? Which specific job redesign strategy or job crafting strategy would you recommend? For example, if you choose job redesign discuss whether you would recommend job rotation, enlargement, enrichment, etc. If you choose job crafting, refer to one of the specific strategies or interventions discussed in Wrzesniewski (2014) or Dik and Duffy (2012).3. Transwest Airlines has decided to hire you as a job crafting consultant for two groups of their employees. One group consists of airline pilots. The pilots of course have one main task that dominates their job description—flying the airplanes safely. The second group consists of Transwest’s online marketing team, who engage in many different tasks such as designing the company’s webpage, handling calls from customers, and promoting the airline through social media. Before arriving at the airline to do interviews and make recommendations, you first need to do some reading on what general approach you will use. As a first step, review Dik and Duffy (2012), where they discuss task crafting, relational crafting, and cognitive crafting. Which of these three types of job crafting do you think would be most appropriate for pilots, and which one do you think would be most appropriate for the online marketing team? Also, read up on “job-crafting swap meets” in Wrzesniewski (2014). Do you think a swap meet would be appropriate for either pilots or online marketers? Any other strategy from Wrzesniewski (2014) that you think would be useful for either pilots or online marketers?4. Conclude your paper with a discussion of A) what you think the main similarities and differences are between job redesign and job crafting, and B) what you think are the main advantages and disadvantages of job redesign and job crafting.Assignment Expectations
