Advanced registered nursing graduates are entering the profession at dynamic time when roles and scope of practice are shifting based on developments in legislation and policy in response to the evolving needs of the health care system. Professional nursing organizations play an important role in making sure the perspectives of advanced registered nurses are heard, and in supporting nurse specialties in their efforts to expand their scope of practice and their full participation throughout the health care system. For this assignment, you will conduct research on the current scope of practice for your specialty and efforts that are being made to expand that scope and the role of the advanced nurse in positively influencing the health care system. Write a 1,250-1,500-word paper that includes the following: A discussion of the scope of your future role as an advanced registered nurse, including any regulatory, certification, or accreditation agencies that define that scope. A discussion of three professional nursing organizations that you think are most influential in advancing the scope and influence of advanced nursing. Of these organizations, evaluate the one that you would most like to join. How do its goals and mission fit in with your worldview and philosophy of care? How might membership in this organization improve your practice? A discussion of a controversial or evolving issue that is most likely to affect your scope of practice or role in the next few years. How do you think this issue could influence the profession and other stakeholders, and why does it matters to the advanced registered nurse? You are required to cite five to 10 sources to complete this assignment. Sources must be published within the last 5 years and appropriate for the assignment criteria and nursing content.
Do you believe health departments should be able to enter your house without a warrant from a judge?
In Jacobson v. Massachusetts (1905), the United States Supreme Court upheld the right of states to enact compulsory vaccination laws—one of the most challenging constitutional dimensions of public health. It also provided the terms for what would eventually become a core question of public health ethics. This case has become the precedent for many cases that have challenged vaccination laws. Both majority and dissenting opinions in numerous decisions have cited this case in reference to states’ authority to constrain individual behavior. These cases have involved issues ranging from fluoridation of municipal water supplies, to abortion, to the right to die. In Buck v. Bell (1927), the Supreme Court used Jacobson v. Massachusetts (1905) to uphold a forced-sterilization law using the reasoning that society must be protected from the burdens imposed by the offspring of “imbeciles.” Despite the troubling uses to which this decision has been put, public health law texts continue to cite the case as an example of the ways that public health practices must resolve the tensions between individual rights and the collective well-being. Based on these Supreme Court decisions, respond to the following: Do you believe health departments should be able to enter your house without a warrant from a judge? Should health departments be able to isolate or quarantine you without a trial? Why or why not? Give examples and reasons in support of your responses. Respond to the question using the lessons and vocabulary found in the readings. Support your answers with examples and research. Your responses should clarify your understanding of the topic. They should be your own, original, and free from plagiarism. Follow the APA format for writing style, spelling and grammar, and citation of sources. Buck v. Bell, 274 U.S. 200 (1927). Jacobson v. Massachusetts, 197 U.S. 11 (1905).

Design a Progressive Discipline Policy that would be appropriate for most organizations to follow
Resource: Avery Foster v. Federal Express Corp., 2006 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 53779 (E. Dist. Ct. MI) The issue in the case is whether the company’s employment handbook created an implied contract. Avery Foster was terminated for falsifying an employee timecard. He argued that he was told in his initial interview that he would be guaranteed employment at Federal Express as long as he was a good worker and was protected from “just cause” termination. The court found there was good cause to terminate Avery Foster and that the handbook did not create an implied contract of guaranteed employment. Progressive discipline is an employee disciplinary process that provides a graduated and measured range of responses to employee performance or conduct issues. Critical thinking consideration: Short of termination, could progressive discipline have been effective in this matter? Given the circumstances and issues that arose in the Avery Foster case, create the following: Design a Progressive Discipline Policy that would be appropriate for most organizations to follow, with consideration to the following measures: Identify the discipline issues to be addressed: attendance, performance, conduct, or a single broad category of non-performance. Determine whether or not the provisions of the policy should permit the company to modify and/or apply the policy in any manner it deems appropriate under the circumstances, including acceleration of steps, exclusion of steps, or repetition of steps. Assess when a supervisor may act independently or needs to seek upper management approval. Explain instructions on when to involve Human Resources. Clarify the role of Human Resources to advise or approve disciplinary action. Determine when a witness should be present. Outline the different sequences and progressive levels of discipline that an employee can receive. Develop rules regarding merit increases in relation to disciplinary action. Write the policy in the third-person in no more than 1,400 words. Use headings that appropriately signal the steps and keep your policy organized. Diversity and Ethical Codes
A manager at your company overhears another employee who is Caucasian directing the N-word at an African-American employee. When she confronts him, he claims that he was using it as a term of endearment—a claim that is not explicitly contested by the “friend” to whom he’s directing it. The manager, concerned that her being Caucasian and in a position of authority, fears her intervention may escalate things, so she chose to accept the explanation and move on. The manager has come to you, the Human Resources Manager, for advice. In a 1,050- to 1,400-word (or 3- to 4-page) paper (excluding references and title page), discuss the following: Your company’s diversity code states: “As team members, we have a responsibility to: · Do our part to help Acme to serve and earn business from a wide variety of communities and stakeholders. · Integrate diversity into our sourcing processes. · Help create an environment in which all team members can contribute, develop, and fully use their talents. · Keep an open mind to new ideas, and listen to different points of view. What are some of the limitations of this code for multicultural professional practice? In what ways do you believe this code is culturally biased and culturally encapsulated? What evidence is there that this code is culturally sensitive? If you believe there is no evidence that the code is culturally sensitive, what evidence is there that the code is not culturally sensitive? Discuss the importance of cultural sensitivity, and explain what you believe are the implications for ethical professional practice. In addition to the required readings, cite at least two additional references that include examples of a better ethical code. select a domestic or international terrorist organization that threatens the U.S. homeland and complete a profile of that organization.
Research task Assignment The term paper consists of two parts. Part 1 – select a domestic or international terrorist organization that threatens the U.S. homeland and complete a profile of that organization. The group profile should be approximately 50 percent of the final paper and must include a discussion of the group’s ideology, targeting, tactics, capability, and overall goals, analysis of attacks, and any statements or propaganda released by the group. Make sure you have enough information on the group to address all these factors and how it affects the US homeland. A foreign terrorist group for this project must be on the official list of foreign terrorist organizations (FTOs) maintained by the U.S. Department of State. In the case of domestic terrorist groups, there is no sanctioned list from which to choose, but the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has made significant arrests from several groups that would fit the description of a domestic terrorist group. The FBI also names many other groups in congressional testimony. Materials presented in the first module, as well as recent news and congressional testimony, are good sources of information on how to identify domestic groups for this project. Part 2 – use the group profile to conduct an analysis of one or more U.S. homeland security policies studied in module 2, to assess the ability of the policy or policies to counter the threat posed by the group profiled. This analysis should begin with an introduction and explanation of the policy, followed by an analysis addressing the breadth of the information(from part 1) gathered on that terrorist group. The policy you analyze should be consistent with the group; for example, if you choose a domestic terrorist group, it would be improper to analyze the Secure Border Initiative and its ability to counter a domestic threat, because the members of the group are already within the nation’s borders. If you find the policy deficient, make specific recommendations for policy change to counter the threat. If you deem the policy sufficient to counter the threat, explain the rationale for your conclusion. Your finished project, including both elements of the paper, should be approximately 12 to 14 double-spaced pages, not including the cover or reference pages but including the abstract, submitted as one document. Make sure you present an introduction and a conclusion tying together both aspects of the paper. Follow the guidelines in either Course Content or in the conference.
