Post your assessment of the nurse’s role in improving the health literacy of patients. In order to effectively manage their own health, individuals need to have competencies in two areas—basic literacy and basic health literacy
Discussion: Health LiteracyIn order to effectively manage their own health, individuals need to have competencies in two areas—basic literacy and basic health literacy. What is the difference? Basic literacy refers to the ability to read, even simple language. Health literacy is defined as, “the degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain, process, and understand basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions” (National Coalition for Literacy, 2009). Unfortunately, according to a Department of Education report on health literacy, only 12% of adults aged 16 and older are considered to have a proficient level of health literacy (U.S. Department of Education, 2006). Acquiring health literacy skills has become more complicated with the explosion of online health information, some credible and some misleading.
In this Discussion, you focus on how to help individuals find credible information on the Internet and develop strategies nurses can use to increase the health literacy of their patients.
To prepare:
Think about the nurse’s role in improving the health literacy of patients.Consider the many ways patients access health information, including blogs, social media, patient portals, websites, etc.Reflect on experiences you have had with patients who self-diagnose using online medical sources.Using the Internet, the Walden Library, or other trustworthy sources, identify a resource that you could introduce to patients to help them evaluate the credibility of health information found online. What are some strategies you could employ to improve the health literacy of patients?Post your assessment of the nurse’s role in improving the health literacy of patients. Then, identify the resource you would recommend to patients for evaluating online health information and why it would be beneficial. Describe additional strategies for assisting patients in becoming informed consumers of online health information.

Your friend has not had a biology course since high school, so you decide to write him a letter sharing your knowledge of stem cells. Include in your letter a description of the biology of stem cells and how these cells are unique from other cells. Contrast the different types of stem cells, including pros and cons of each. Then, in more detail, describe the environmental problems that may result from these processes and why they are controversial. Issues that may be addressed involves, but are not limited to, water, air and soil pollution, effects on human health, effects on other species and natural ecosystems. Describe one (1) physiological, and one (1) psychosocial intervention that could help either Jorge or his mother deal with this problem.
Enuresis is a problem that affects children and families both physically and psychosocially. Parents can be frustrated because the cause might be unknown, and interventions that work for one child may not necessarily help another. Children may feel isolated and embarrassed and avoid age-appropriate activities.
Initial Discussion Post:
Jorge is a nine-year-old boy who never established night time bladder control and wets the bed every night. He does not have toileting accidents during the day. Jorge lives at home with a single working mother, who privately tells the RN that she is frustrated with the additional laundry, and having to get up extra early so her son can shower in the morning rather than at night. She asks the RN in the pediatrician’s office for advice to manage the problem at home. Jorge is excited to go on a Boy Scout camping trip, and the mother is concerned that he will experience embarrassment, because the boys and the leader could find out about this problem.
What type of enuresis is Jorge experiencing?
Identify two (2) pieces of assessment data the RN should collect.
How will this data be used in planning nursing care?
Describe one (1) physiological, and one (1) psychosocial intervention that could help either Jorge or his mother deal with this problem.
Base your initial post on your readings and research of this topic. Your initial post must contain a minimum of 250 words. References, citations, and repeating the question do not count towards the 250 word minimum.
Discuss how you would use conditional probability in your exposure due diligence efforts.
Understanding of probability is key in making business decisions. The following questions begin to test your understanding of the different forms of probability and the data on which probabilistic decision making is based.
Select any one of the following starter bullet point sections. Review the important themes within the sub questions of each bullet point. The sub questions are designed to get you thinking about some of the important issues. Your response should provide a succinct synthesis of the key themes in a way that articulates a clear point, position, or conclusion supported by research.
You are a risk manager in a manufacturing company. One of your key responsibilities is securing of property insurance coverage to provide protection against damage caused by “acts of God” such as earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, etc. You begin the process with exposure due diligence, which is focused on estimating the chances of a single “act of God” occurring in the course of the upcoming year, as well as the chances of two or more “acts of God” materializing (also in the course of the next year).
Determine where you might be able to find valid data for this type of analysis.
Justify the use of the concept of conditional probability in the context of your task—more specifically, discuss how you would use conditional probability in your exposure due diligence efforts. Support your discussion with relevant examples, research, and rationale.
You are a marketing manager for a company that makes ready-to-eat breakfast cereals. Your company recently initiated a loyalty program for consumers, which resulted in a large purchaser database. The brand managers are eager to examine the available data, which they can use to design more effective promotional programs. Your first step is to conduct an exploratory baseline analysis, the goal of which is to describe the buyer base and estimate basic statistical descriptors of the buyer base. You are particularly interested in the size of individual purchases, as well as the frequency of repurchases.
Evaluate what discrete data distribution the frequency of repurchases data would be likely to follow.
Explain why the other discrete data distributions are not appropriate for this data. Support your discussion with relevant examples, research, and rationale.
You are a marketing manager for a manufacturer of nonperishable products sold in grocery stores. In this role, you need to make various decisions about how much marketing/advertising support is needed by each product to maximize the profitability of the organization.
Assess how the effectiveness of individual marketing/advertising approaches would be determined.
Discuss how historical sales data, as well as promotional response data, can aid you in evaluating the effectiveness of the individual marketing/advertising approaches. Support your discussion with relevant examples, research, and rationale.
The final paragraph (three or four sentences) of your initial post should summarize the one or two key points that you are making in your initial response.
