How would you differentiate a discrete from a continuous random variable?
Many business activities generate data that can be thought of as random. An example described in the textbook is the servicing of cars at an oil change shop. Each car entering the shop can be considered an experiment with random outcomes. A variable of interest in this experiment could be the amount of time necessary to service the car. Service time will vary randomly with each car.
We can often capture the most relevant characteristics of a stochastic process with a simple probability distribution model. We can then analyze the model to make predictions and drive decisions. For instance, we could estimate the number of technicians the oil change shop needs to service demand on a Saturday afternoon. Discuss the following:
- What is a random variable?
- How would you differentiate a discrete from a continuous random variable?
A laptop manufacturing company has implemented a 2-step process to test the quality of each production batch. In the first step, a technician randomly selects 15 laptops from the batch and determines whether they meet specifications. The batch is considered acceptable provided no more than 1 laptop fails to meet specifications. Otherwise, the entire batch must be tested in the second step. Historical data shows that 95% of the laptops produced adhere to specifications. Discuss the following:
- What are the 4 characteristics of a binomial experiment?
- Can we use a binomial distribution to model this process?
- What is the probability that the entire batch unnecessarily has to be tested if in fact 95% of its laptops conform to specifications? (Hint: Use Excel’s =BINOMDIST() function to find the probability.)
- What is the probability that the batch is incorrectly accepted if only 75% of its laptops conform to specifications?
Do you see the rise of consumer power through evolving changes in technology?
For this activity, prepare a reflection paper, and consider the concepts that you have learned during your readings. Think about what you understand completely and what did not quite make sense. The purpose of this assignment is to provide you with the opportunity to reflect on the material you have read and to expand on it. This is not a summary.
In the Unit I introduction to this course, Theodore Levitt’s remarks about the contrasting needs of the seller and the marketer were shared. Levitt described how satisfying the needs of the customer is now the pathway to marketing success. This concept and others related to the four Ps of product, price, promotion, and place were further explored throughout the units. For this reflection paper, respond to these three prompts:
- Reflect on how this introductory marketing course has changed your view of how the field of marketing works.
- What was the most surprising thing you learned? What do you need to learn more about?
- Do you see the rise of consumer power through evolving changes in technology? If so, how? If not, why not?
Your reflection paper must be at least four pages in length and formatted according to APA guidelines. If you use any paraphrased or quoted material, you must have accompanying in-text citations and references. Title and reference pages do not count toward the minimum length requirement.
Analyze the thematic development of this first movement of the book of Acts.
In an essay of at least 875 words, analyze the thematic development of this first movement of the book of Acts. While this is not an exclusive list, be sure to address the following elements:
1. How does this segment develop the theme of the geographical/ethnic advance of the proclamation of the gospel presented in the key verse of the book, Acts 1:8? Trace the development of this theme through this section of Acts.
2. What other major themes are developed in Acts 1–7 (of the themes identified by Fowler in his video presentation “The Key Themes of Acts”)? Trace the development of each theme as applicable.
3. Luke records four of Peter’s evangelistic addresses in this section: his sermon on Pentecost (2:14–40), his sermon following the healing of the lame man at the Beautiful Gate (3:12–26), and his testimony in his two appearances before the Sanhedrin (4:8–12; 5:29–32). Read these and compare them; identify the core elements that Peter considered non-negotiable in his preaching of the gospel.
4. What are the primary, recurring themes in Stephen’s speech to the Sanhedrin? How are these themes developed by Stephen? How does Stephen’s speech fit thematically into this movement of the book of Acts?
How could project management helped prevent this situation?
One of the great things about MBA classes in the knowledge that is already in each class. Each students bring a unique set of experiences and understanding. Often you can learn as much from each other as you can from the instructor. You can also talk about what does or does not work and bring up practical applications or adaptations of the things that we discuss in the course. This is somewhat more difficult in an online environment. In order try to replicate some of this discussion learning, we will be using discuss boards for the course. Each week I will post an assignment or prompt, and you are expected to ask a thoughtful question or post a thoughtful response each week. Then you need to respond to a few of your classmates posts, and also reply to any who respond to yours during the second half of the week. I believe that this is a where you can be really engaged in the course and learn from each other.
KFC in the United Kingdom ran out of chicken and supplies, could you imagine??
Instructions – Provide your discussion comments related to the following:
- How could project management helped prevent this situation?
- Do you feel there was sufficient project management for this cut over and this result was unavoidable?
- Why could a better project management process of prevented this outcome?
- What was missed in this project to cut over to a different supplier?
Analyze the demographic and economic data of a country that Walmart is currently not operating in.
Prior to beginning work on this assignment,
In the first half of the assignment, you will prepare for Walmart to operate in a foreign market. You will need to analyze at least two leadership models and/or styles to determine which one will be more suitable for leading employees and for responding to stakeholders in a country outside of North America. Determine the leadership competencies that would be beneficial to you as a leader in the selected foreign market. You will choose either Peru, New Zealand, Philippines, Egypt, Czech Republic, or the United Arab Emirates for your analysis. You will also need to compare the concepts of cultural leadership according to how they can be applied in the country that you have selected. You must also determine the leadership skills and practices that should be used in order to foster team and organizational success.
In the second half of the assignment, you will conduct an analysis of the country that you have decided to expand operations into. The analysis must include the rationale for country selection based upon demographic and economic data. Lastly, the analysis should inform leadership about the country’s culture based upon GLOBE’s nine dimensions of culture as argued in Northouse (2018). Incorporate each of the nine dimensions of culture in an analysis that will be hypothetically presented to Walmart leadership. When utilizing the nine dimensions, current information about the culture of the selected country must be utilized. The purpose of this preliminary analysis is to make sure that the leadership team understands the complexities of expanding into the country that you have selected. The paper should be nine to twelve pages and include seven scholarly references.
In your paper,
- Analyze the demographic and economic data of a country that Walmart is currently not operating in.
- Conduct an analysis for Walmart leadership about the country’s culture based upon the GLOBE’s nine dimensions of culture.
- Explain how Walmart’s leadership skills and practices may lead to organizational success.
- Formulate a model of cultural and ethical leadership as it applies to Walmart at a global level.

Construct the correlation matrix for the variables Sales, AdExp, and ShelfSpc
Promotion of Supermarket Vegetables
A supermarket chain is interested in exploring the relationship between the sales of its store-brand canned vegetables (Y variable), the amount spent on promotion of the vegetables in local newspapers (X1 variable), and the amount of shelf space allocated to the brand (X2 variable). One of the chain’s supermarkets was randomly selected, and over a 20-week period X1 and X2 were varied. Develop the multiple regression model for predicting the sales that explains how advertising expenditures and shelf space influence sales. ( data info attached )
Study the problem “Promotion of Supermarket Vegetables” and download the data from PromotionsData.xlsx. (Available on BB9)
Form the following analysis of the data:
1) Construct the correlation matrix for the variables Sales, AdExp, and ShelfSpc
2) Run a multiple regression model with Sales as the dependent variable and AdExp and ShelfSpc as the independent variables (Model 1).
3) Run a multiple regression with Sales as the dependent variable and AdExp, SmallShelf, LargeShelf, SmallAdExp, and LargeAdExp as the independent variables (Model 2).
4) Remove insignificant variables from the model estimated in the previous step (Model 2) and re-run a multiple regression model (Model 3).
