Do some research (Google searches are fine) to identify a company that ran into a problem due to their IT architecture (be sure to cite the source of your information).

In Chapter 3 of our textbook, the author discusses the importance of IT architecture choices on a firm’s competitive strategy.  He also gives examples of multiple ways in which an IT architecture choice either helped or hindered a firm’s strategy down the road (many of these examples are on pages 80-81). There are numerous examples in the news of companys that ran into issues because of their IT architecture. Your task this week is the following:

  1. Do some research (Google searches are fine) to identify a company that ran into a problem due to their IT architecture (be sure to cite the source of your information).
  2. Briefly describe the IT problem as well as the impact to the company (e.g., bad PR, loss of sales, etc.).
  3. Make a recommendation on what they could have done differently in their IT architecture decisions (hindsight is always 20-20) based on what you’ve learned in this chapter.

Instructions for Final Project:

For this Final Project, you must use economic concepts acquired in this class to address the questions. You must also supplement your text with researched information that will support your arguments.

Describe and analyze the positive or negative impact(s) of international trade or of globalization on a country or region of your choice.

To address the questions, research must be done. It is important that factual information be provided so as to provide an accurate description.

You should include all of the following in your text, but can choose to incorporate additional information so as to provide a more complete response:

  • Informational Introduction:
    • Briefly describe the country or region of your choice.
    • Focus on that country’s or on that region’s trade patterns with one or many of its important trade partner(s). You must use statistical data in part to address this point.
  • Theoretical Question:
    • Incorporate at least one economic theory learned in class to explain how the country or the region that you chose benefits from trade.
  • Normative Question: Using the knowledge acquired in this class, make a qualitative assessment of the impact of trade on the country or region that you chose. You may address the following, but can decide to address more questions:
    • “What are the specific positive or negative impact(s) that international trading or that globalization has had for that country or for that region?”
    • “Which group is particularly affected by trade?”
    • “Propose a recommended course of action to address how you believe that the government could increase the benefits or mitigate the negative impacts of trade for that country and its population.” You should provide a coherent argumentation or statistical facts to support your analysis.

General Instructions:

  • You must incorporate in your final project economic theories learned in class and apply them to your analysis.
  • You must state your interpretation of the information that you provided and then justify your interpretation using several arguments that you will need to explain.
  • You should take a balanced position.

Special Instructions:

  • You must write a paper of at least 2,000 words.
  • You must use graphs and/or equations to present your information.

Describe how SQL constructs could be used to create data definition language (DDL) and data manipulation languages (DML).

An Insurance firm is implementing a Microsoft® SQL Server® database that will track customer information, policy information, and transaction histories. The biggest concern is providing access to the information each team needs. Sales representatives need to access customer information to better serve their clients. Claims representatives must access policy information to determine coverage. Supervisors would like to access transaction histories to monitor employee performance. Compliance officers often must gather different and varied information for various regulatory agencies. Mertel executives want to monitor key metrics stored in the database to gauge company performance.

1.   Based on tyour experience, and your research, respond to the following in a minimum of  200 words: (1) Describe what methods you would recommend that the insurance company will use to retrieve information from its databases and why do you recommend those methods?; (2) Discuss whether you would use a custom application or a more generic tool like SAP® BusinessObjects™ or Microsoft Excel; (3) Discuss if a team of analysts would be in charge of running reports and distributing the information; and (4) Discuss if the same approach work for all the users? Defend your recommendation.

2.   create a 700-word minimum – Database Administration and Data Governance

Evaluate and assist company decision makers in understanding the importance of database administration and data governance in relation to building scalable and robust applications.

  • Describe how SQL constructs could be used to create data definition language (DDL) and data manipulation languages (DML).
  • Explain how the design would be checked from each role’s perspective, according to the information they require.
  • Use these roles as an example:
  • The administration team needs access to records and permission to update and enter new data.
  • The development teams need to write the expected transactions relatively easily, which might depend on the degree of normalization.
  • The application team needs access to any and all data to manage the interface.
