Explain which Operations Management practice this article is most closely associated with
1. Find a recent article in the Wall Street Journal (or other reputable news source) that discusses an operational win or challenge that a company has gone through which has had a significant impact on its business. Focus on one of the topics we are covering that week. In selecting your article:
1. Do not limit your search to organizations in any particular sector. Remember that best practices are everywhere if you are willing to look for them.
2. Identify the wins/challenges that connect to one of the topics we are covering in the upcoming week.
3. You may select the same organization for your submissions or you may select a different organization for your submissions.
2. In the Forum for the week, write a brief introductory executive summary identifying the organization, the challenge and the current state of affairs. Remember to include a link to the article for easy reference.
1. Explain which Operations Management practice this article is most closely associated with
2. Summarize the problem and the impact that the tools had (or could have had) in addressing it
3. Explain how this example can be used as a lesson in your own organization to either point to an area of opportunity for a similar win, or to warn of a potential risk that could have significant impact on your business, if left unaddressed
The article I have chosen closely relates to a lot of the material in the chapters this week, specifically operations strategy, gaining a competitive advantage, and measuring performance (Collier, D. A., & Evans, J. R., 2021).
IT manufacturer Huawei (Links to an external site.) makes consumer products like PCs, Laptops, and wearables and is #2 overall in the world in smartphone sales. In 2019, the US placed restrictions on exporting chips to the Chinese-based company due to failures to adhere to US national security and policy. Huawei spends about $11-billion a year in the US on semiconductors and software (Strumpf, D, et al, 2019). To combat this issue, Huawei has invested in 56 companies through the fund Hubble Technology Investment Co. These companies are vying to produce semiconductors in response to the global chip shortage. Since the export restrictions, Huaweis revenue has been reduced by a third, so diversifying their supply chain is necessary (Strumpf, D, 2022).
Huawei has to reevaluate its supply and value chains due to these restrictions. Since its revenue and performance are down, investing in companies producing chips may set them up with a competitive advantage in the long run. Another tool Huawei is implementing to evaluate its operations is optimization. Optimization in regards to OM is when a company identifies the best way to maximize or minimize goals while meeting requirements and constraints (Collier, D. A., & Evans, J. R., 2021).
Since I am in IT distribution and have felt the long-lasting and, sadly, continuing impacts of the chip shortages, Huaweis efforts pose a competitive risk to vendors we source, affecting our supply. We distribute direct-competitors of Huawei, like Apple, Samsung, and LG, and our vendors could lose market share if they do not adopt similar practices of sourcing semiconductors for their devices. As a distributor, we cannot influence a vendors manufacturing process but we can have open dialogue about their initiatives and adjust and forecast accordingly.
The New York Times ran an article on December 30, 2021, titled Can a Tiny Territory in the South Pacific Power Teslas Ambitions? The article reported Tesla Inc.s operations supply chain strategy to directly procure nickel, critical to the production of its lithium electric car batteries, directly from a mine in Goro, New Caledonia, a French territory located in the South Pacific near Fiji. The action represents the companys intent to minimize the risk of disruption in its supply chain, preventing it from obtaining the mineral. China dominates the production of electric car batteries. Tesla is planning to manufacture batteries in the U.S. and Germany. A South American company previously operated the mine. It grossly mismanaged it from an economic and environmental standpoint. Workers at the mine and residents and activists forced the owner to leave.
Critical mineral mining operations typically exemplify environmental destruction and abuse of local populations, e.g., cobalt in Congo and nickel in the Philippines. Tesla strenuously reports it is committed to achieving benchmarks in environmental preservation and Indigenous peoples rights. Many interest groups will closely watch Tesla’s Goro mining operation. Tesla’s action exhibits risk mitigation of supply chain disruption and commitment to the long-term sustainability of its operations.

Instructional Website Assessment Plan [WLO: 4] [CLOs: 1, 4]
Prior to completing this assignment, please be sure to read chapter 9 of your text and view Tests: Assessing learning and providing feedback (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.. In this assignment, you will continue assuming the role of the contract instructional designer you imagined for the Evaluating Learner Achievement discussion this week, and you will begin to develop an assessment plan for your instructional website. Prior to beginning work on this assignment, read the Week 1 Instructor Guidance page and review the Grading Rubric.
In this assignment,
Describe the characteristics of your selected audience for the instructional website.
State the topics and objectives you have decided on for achieving the instructional goal of teaching the principles of instructional design and featuring Gagnés Nine Events of Instruction as a framework for designing effective learning experiences. At a minimum, the topics must cover the essential principles for instructional design represented most closely in Chapters 2 through 10 (i.e., analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation).
Describe three self-assessments you will design for at least three topics on your website. You do not need to create these now, only describe what these assessments will include.
Identify which objectives align to each assessment and justify your assessment choices.
Other than age, what factors may be both positively and negatively affecting your hearing?
Step 1:
Visit the TeenBuzz website at www.teenbuzz.org (opens in a new window). This site offers free ringtones that most adults cannot hear.
The website includes a chart of ringtones that start at 8kHz (everyone should be able to hear) and go up to 22kHz (only those below age 20 can hear). Starting with the 8kHz frequency, download* each ringtone one at a time and keep a list of which you can hear and make a note when you are no longer able to hear the ringtone.
*There are four options for downloading the ringtones, depending on what type of device you are using. Most students on a computer, laptop or Android device will click the green download button (MP3). Students using iPhones will click the blue/grey button (M4R format) and students using Windows phones will click on the red/orange button (WAV format). There is no need to save the ringtones.
Step 2:
Thoroughly discuss the following:
Other than age, what factors may be both positively and negatively affecting your hearing? For example, using headphones regularly or a history of ear infections may be negatively affecting your hearing while living in a rural area or rarely attending live concerts may have a positive affect on your hearing.
When writing your initial post, please include the frequencies you could hear and whether your actual age is consistent with the age ranges given by the website

The agriculture sector has the objective to simply feed people and to maximize their production. Since the worlds population is increasing continuously and is expected to continue to grow, the agriculture companies need to be able to supply food for the consumers. According to Pretty, J. (2010) The goal for the agricultural sector is no longer simply to maximize productivity, but to optimize across a far more complex landscape of production, rural development, environmental, social justice and food consumption outcomes.
Taking into consideration the recent global pandemic this last two years companies have understood
that the consumers have changed their habits and the Agro businesses able to explore new ways to adapt. Tasnim (2020) revers that in order to be more transparent to the consumers companies have become more digitalized. This allows them to make major changes with the objective of producing more and have more opportunities to grow.
This Thesis will discuss the digitalization of the agriculture companies to face the problems that have been faced recently and the acceptance of the consumer to this digitalization in the leading European Countries. Companies had the need to constantly adapt to achieve the demand. In this case the need to improve the supply chain, logistics and production are some aspects that agriculture businesses can create advantage by using more digitalized processes (Parviainen, P., Tihinen, M., Kääriäinen, J. and Teppola, S., 2017). Another important aspect is that modern technology allows the consumers to have a more present role in the activities of the company. Since Portugal is a country that still uses old agriculture techniques due to the fact the main sample that works in the Agro Business are older people. With the opportunity to understand digitalization techniques the sector would be able to grow and expand.
According to Burliai (2019) digitalization has changed the agriculture sector with the objective of being more transparent in terms of the consumer to understand better what he is buying but also in the way that the products are produced with more capable resources that allows companies to be more efficient (Burliai, 2019).
Lastly, in this study the research will be conducted by using an academic bibliography with the objective of understanding how the agriculture companies uses the modern technology and which is the impact in the business.
IV. Research Methodology: Clearly indicate the methods and techniques which you are planning to use to gather information and investigate the identified problem.
Primary research:
For this part, two different perspectives will be taken into consideration. First, interview the agriculture companies and then understand the consumer’s perspective. These interviews will focus on two prominent companies: both are Portuguese companies, one is with CEO of a winery in the south of Portugal that has already used digitalization techniques and the other is also with the CEO of a cork company that has few digitalizing techniques. It is crucial to analyze how the progress has been moving as well as, the expectations and concerns of this unexpected world.
A survey will be conducted in order to be aware of the other side of the business. From the client’s perspective. The sample will include 25 participants with the objective of having a more precise poll of results and to understand how the process of digitalization of the agriculture companies is responding to the customer’s needs. It is meaningful for this business area to find out what the clients are still missing and what they expect from the digital growth in this sector.
Secondary Research:
Many studies have been done to understand the movement of the agriculture sector to the online world. These books and case studies will be crucial to compare the findings and conclusions the primary research will provide and afterward draw a conclusion.
Qualitative Data:
The use of Qualitative data such as academic articles and Journals, has a major importance in
validation of the topic. Has the objective of supporting the topic that will be defended.
Quantitative Data:
Tables and charts from other studies will be used to drive more specific conclusions about
findings that other authors have achieved.
V. Selected Bibliography: Please indicate a representative list of the main bibliographical sources you intend to utilize for your dissertation (no more than 20). Please provide full citations

To be successful, the organisation must be capable of responding to changes in the sector in which
they operate.
As a manager, you are required to analyse the energy industry during and after the global pandemic.
Hence you should produce a 1,500-word business report on the micro and macro-economic factors
that have affected a private energy company (e.g., gas, electric, solar panel, wind, and oil) of your
choice.
Your report should review and reflect your knowledge and theory of economics. It must include an
analysis of the impact of the economy (including the micro and macro factors) on your case company.
Your audience is the senior management team. You should meet all the related learning outcomes.
Your choice of the organisation should be agreed upon with your tutor during tutorials.
Completion of this assessment will address the following learning outcomes:
1 Identify and evaluate the impact the economy has on business organisations
2 Appraise and apply economic theory to a range of contemporary business contexts
3 Analyse the micro and macro-economic forces on contemporary business
What external factors influenced Caines ability to successfully create his arcade
Caine is a 9-year-old boy whose afterschool and weekend project turned into an international imagination movement. As the video explains, Caine built a gaming arcade almost entirely out of cardboard and opened it up for business in the storefront of his fathers auto parts store. This story provides an excellent example of how characteristics of Caines personal identity might affect how and what he learned from the specific experiences portrayed. The video story identifies the cultural values that nurtured Caines curiosity and inventiveness, and you can readily analyze the factors contributing to his funds of knowledge going into the project. After viewing Caines amazing story, reflect on the different skills he learned and applied as he completed his project, and consider how his personal identity shaped, and was shaped by, his amazing experiences. To help you better understand the underlying influences affecting Caines learning experiences, read Chapter 7 of your primary text.
This chapter presents information and examples associated with how social class can have an influence on student achievement and behavior in school. You also need to read the article by Moll, Amanti, Neff, and Gonzales (1992) regarding about how family and cultural backgrounds impact students and their families.
Initial Post: View the video and construct an initial discussion post that addresses the following questions:
What external factors influenced Caines ability to successfully create his arcade (e.g., what role did his father play in encouraging his project?)?
What internal factors influenced Caines ability to successfully create his arcade? Consider his world view, values, and funds of knowledge as internal factors.
How valuable do you think these skills are in the real world? How well do they align with one or more of the 21st-century skills identified on the web page?
