The purpose of unit discussion is to have an open dialogue that helps to expand your understanding of the course material as well as demonstrate your critical thinking abilities. While less formal than unit assignments, your posts should be supported with scholarly research. Participation throughout the assigned unit is encouraged so that you can participate in the give and take of a natural dialogue.

ULO 6.3 Assess why training designers need to consider both the costs and benefits to a training program.
ULO 6.4 Describe how to calculate the benefits of training programs including net benefit analysis, benefit-cost ratio, and return on investment.
ULO 6.5 Evaluate relevant scholarly research and synthesize research to complete required assignments.
Directions
Initial Post
Conduct scholarly research to provide a detailed response to one of the questions listed below. Review rubric for expectations.
1. Consider a situation in which you are the director of training and development in an organization that is going to deliver a very expensive training program. It is very important to find out how effective the training program is given the expense and the large number of employees who will be trained over the next several years. Your job is to develop a plan for the evaluation. Discuss what you will do in terms of the type of evaluation: What data should be gathered and analyzed? What is the purpose of the evaluation and should it be formative or summative? Should it be descriptive or causal evaluation? What type of evaluation design do you think would be most appropriate? Consider the pros and cons of the various alternatives.
Why are these important to consider when evaluating an organizations strategic plan?
Potential risk factors are found in every project. Although individual projects have different risks, there are several common risk factors.
Create either a list or chart of 5 common potential risks. In 1 to 2 sentences, briefly explain why each of these risks are so common. How are they measured? Why are these important to consider when evaluating an organizations strategic plan?
Submit your list or chart.

Prepare a voice-over PowerPoint presentation to present to an undergraduate class on research methods and begin by briefly describing the four different scales of quantitative research measurement that scientists use (nominal, ordinal, interval, and ratio). Provide additional clarification to illustrate your understanding of the four different levels of measurement when presenting this information. Then, provide one example for each of these types of measures for your chosen topic of research. Which measures might you want to use here, and why? Briefly explain how each variable that you select fits within the four different scales of measurement.

Post an explanation of how the difference between statistical significance and the true importance (clinical significance) of the relationship between variables or the degree of difference between groups affect your practice decision making
Research studies often compare variables, conditions, times, and/or groups of participants to evaluate relationships between variables or differences between groups or times. For example, if researchers are interested in knowing whether an intervention produces change in the desired direction, they will want to know whether the change is due to chance (statistical significance) or possibly due to the intervention. In this case, researchers could use a pre and post measurement of the same participants on the condition being treated, or they could compare a group of individuals who receive the intervention to a group that does not receive the intervention. Researchers could also compare two groups of individuals who receive different interventions. The rigor of the research design helps control for other factors that might account for the changes (e.g., time, conditions, group differences in other factors, etc.). To prepare for this Discussion, consider the concept of statistical significance.
· Post an explanation of how the difference between statistical significance and the true importance (clinical significance) of the relationship between variables or the degree of difference between groups affect your practice decision making
Be sure to include an explanation of what statistical significance means.
Include an example from a quantitative study that found statistically significant differences.
· Discuss whether the results of the study wouldor shouldinfluence your practice as a social worker.
· Include at least 2 references and citations.
