Write an evidence-based argument to your audience that defends your stance and proposes a plan of action the audience should take

ADVOCACY LETTER
OVERVIEW Your work on developing and refining a research question, the Annotated Bibliography, and the Issue, Audience, and Genre Analysis required you to find a current unresolved issue in your field, establish your stance on it, and identify and research a specific, real audience with a vested interest in the issue (decision-making authority) who is opposed to your position (in part or in total).
Armed with the facts, data, and informed opinions you have compiled, it’s now time to write a persuasive, researched argument about that issue, tailor it to your audience’s expectations, and present your argument in a specific genre, the advocacy letter, appropriate for appealing to a resistant audience.
By the time you finish this assignment, you should have a piece of writing that addresses an actual exigence and is timely enough to send to your audience.
ASSIGNMENT Write an evidence-based argument to your audience that defends your stance and proposes a plan of action the audience should take. Your argument should be presented in the genre of an advocacy letter.
AUDIENCE: You must write with an awareness of the audience (stakeholder) you chose. You have already researched and analyzed that stakeholder, and now you must tailor your word choice, evidence, and tone to the expectations of that audience.
EVIDENCE: This is a researched academic argument, so you must use evidence from at least two scholarly articles. Your other sources should come from the most reputable sources you can find. You cannot cite general encyclopedias, dictionaries (unless they are specialized dictionaries), or popular magazines and websites (About.com, TIME Magazine, The Huffington Post, Newsweek, U. S. News & World Report, etc.). You will be writing to sophisticated audiences who will be persuaded only if you use highly credible evidence. Introduce and synthesize the evidence you provide.
GENRE: You will be writing to persuade your audience to accept your proposed response or solution. One of the ways writers present such arguments is through an advocacy letter, a genre of public writing. The final version of your essay should comply with the genre conventions of the advocacy letter, especially in terms of length, documentation, and formatting. Additionally, note how advocacy

letters position the writer’s ethos. You will need to do this as well.
STRUCTURE: Advocacy letters have a specific structure, but that structure still requires an introduction and thesis, body (background information, argument, and counterargument), and conclusion. Use good paragraphing techniques to help your audience move easily through your argument.
• THESIS AND ARGUMENT: Since you are writing an argument, you will need an argumentative thesis that contains a claim and a reason. Your thesis must take a stand on the issue, provide reasons for your stance, and propose a solution your audience should take. The thesis is most often the answer to your research question. • COUNTERARGUMENT: In the body of your paper, you must also address the counterarguments to your position in order to persuade your audience. The counterargument should address the audience’s resistance, concerns, or opposition to your position and/or your suggested plan of action. Concede where necessary; refute where you can. DOCUMENTATION STYLE: Though most advocacy letters use footnotes, use the documentation style in your discipline. As you practiced in Issue, Audience, Genre Analysis, continue use the in-text citation method of your discipline’s choice. END PAGE REFLECTION 1.Describe three specific decisions you made to shape the writing of this essay to your audience and in the advocacy letter genre. Identify one or two places in your final essay where a reader could see evidence of these decisions.
2.Explain how your essay contributes to a scholarly or professional conversation about the issue you chose. Does your argument address a gap in that conversation, bring a new solution to it, raise new questions about it, or add something else that enabled you to “join” this conversation?
3.This end-page reflection must be included in the letter as a new page. It takes up 10% of your grade assignment.

Investment Project

Team Investment Project

The team investment project comprises two exercises, The exercises will be undertaken by the same teams as those assigned for the Investment Game. The purpose of the project is to give students an opportunity to gain some experience with equity research in a real-world setting. The main purpose of equity research is to provide investors with detailed financial analysis and recommendations on whether to buy, hold or sell a particular investment. There is a wealth on information available online about public companies, but you will have to do some digging.

The investment will be a common stock of the students’ choosing. The stock must be listed on a Canadian or US stock exchange. Listed investment trusts (e.g., REITs) and American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) for individual offshore companies are permitted as well. Securities based on a portfolio of stocks (eg. ETFs) are not eligible for this project as the purpose is to analyze a particular industry and stock.

Student teams will choose an industry and then, the common stock of a company within the industry (no preferred shares please). The first step will be to analyze the industry. This will involve investigating industry trends and competition. You should ensure that all the dynamics of the industry have been investigated, including the impact of political factors, the state and future of the economy, social trends and technological change. Short to medium-term factors, such as the current Covid-19 crisis, should be considered as well. The industry report (approx. 15 pages plus any supporting tables, graphs, computations, and projections, etc. in appendices) is to be submitted via Avenue no later than Thursday, November 01 at 5:00 pm. All writing must be your own original work. Tables and figures from other sources may be included in the appendices, but the sources should be acknowledged. Do avoid the temptation to cut and paste or otherwise incorporate material from other sources as any evidence of having done so will result in a grade of zero on the assignment. All references used should be cited in a bibliography.

The second part of the project will involve choosing a company within the industry chosen for the first part and preparing a report for individual investors on the company’s prospects, including a recommendation as to the whether the stock is a buy, sell or hold; the type of portfolio for which it is appropriate (income, growth, value, speculative, etc.); and the investment horizon of the investor for whom it is recommended (day-trader, short-term (up to one year), medium-term (up to five years) or long- term (forever if your client is Warren Buffett)). In this part you should consider the quality of the management team (e.g., look at its track record in creating value for investors), You should also look at recent years’ financial data for the company. These can be obtained for the companies’ annual reports, 10- K reports, etc (look at the SEDAR website for Canadian companies and the EDGAR website for US companies). The various sources of information you consult can then be used to make forecasts about the company’s prospects and arrive at an estimate of the value of the company’s common stock (using valuation tools introduced in the course; you should consider multiple (at least two) valuation methods). Your consensus estimate (or, more likely, range of estimates) should then be compared with the current price (the current price should be the closing stock price on any date between November 25 and December 15; identify the date chosen in your report) to arrive at your recommendation. The company report (15 pages approx. with supporting analysis, tables, figures, etc.) is due Thursday, December 16 at 5:00 pm. Once again, all written material must be your own original work. Evidence of copying from other sources (e.g., cut and paste of commercial stock reports) will result in a grade of zero on the assignment. Charts and tables from other sources can be included in the appendix providing the source is acknowledged. All material referenced should be cited in a bibliography

Pay attention to read this one

The stock must be listed on a Canadian or US stock exchange. Listed investment trusts (e.g., REITs) and American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) for individual offshore companies are permitted as well. Securities based on a portfolio of stocks (eg. ETFs) are not eligible for this project as the purpose is to analyze a particular industry and stock. You only need to focus on the second part of the requirement, The first part has been completed.

Policy manuals provide reference and guidance to educators about different decisions and actions that apply in a school district. School boards determine the policies and procedures and administrators execute and enforce those policies and procedures. Note: A policy manual is not a school handbook, a teacher handbook, or a master agreement. Policy manuals are usually located on your school district’s website (not on an individual school’s website), often in the School Board tab or section. To become more familiar with policy manuals, locate the policy manual for your local school district. If you search for the manual for your school district, include the name of the school district followed by the words “Policy Manual”. That should make the search easier. Discuss money worth on real estate brokers

I guess we all like to save money, right? I think we can also agree that some things are best to be left to the “professional.” Is the use of a real estate broker justified when you are going to sell your property? In other words, do you think you will be getting your money’s worth? Let’s be fair – a lot of people attempt to sell their own property – do you think this is a mistake? Let’s get some interesting discussion going on this topic!
