Are there other ideas for systemic reform such that challengers are placed on a more equal footing with incumbents?
Some observers express concern about high reelection rates for incumbent members of Congress and have advocated for term limits as a way to formally remove longtime members of Congress. Why do you think these proposals for term limits are being advanced? Are there advantages to having long-serving members of Congress in office (e.g., when dealing with an entrenched bureaucracy)? What do recent election cycles say about the need for term limits? Are there other ideas for systemic reform such that challengers are placed on a more equal footing with incumbents?

What is the critical problem/opportunity you will focus on? Why have you identified this particular problem/opportunity?
The critical problem retail stores of Verizon face currently is the turnover rate. With the changes to commission along with Covid changing the way we do business, the number of employees leaving the company has increased drastically. I have chosen this area because without great employees, stores and even customer service aren’t able to properly take care of customers in a timely manner. In stores this has resulted in longer wait times for customers, burned out employees because they arent able to take breaks, and a decrease in quality of metrics because managers aren’t able to hold the team accountable. Customer service departments have had to mass hire outside companies to help with the increase in call in traffic, but many agents aren’t t trained the same way as Verizon employees, thus causing more escalations and incorrect information given to customers.
High turnover inhibits culture, and the motivation for constant improvement because it doesn’t give employees the opportunity to learn and grow. “When teams are starved of the oxygen of a growth mindset and the momentum that comes from that, performance inevitably suffers.” (1. Bishop) My store for example has lost 4 employees in a span of 5 months, leaving only 3 sales reps to run a store meant for 7 or 8. Going into Apple launch and now fourth quarter we have seen an influx of customers coming in, creating over hour wait times, frustrated customers, and exhausted employees. While the process to hire new employees is fast and easy, finding people that can do this job successfully and learn quickly, is incredibly difficult. Most of the time it takes several months to interview, hire, and train a new hire to even feel somewhat comfortable with some aspects of the job.
What sort of data should you gather and analyze to accurately assess the problem or opportunity? Is it sales data, demographic data, product performance data, or another type of data?
Turnover ratio: I will compare turnover ratio every year going back at least 4 years to gain a better insight of how many employees are leaving the company each year.
Metrics: I will compare overall metrics including revenue, traffic, commissions payouts, etc for the last several years to show a pattern of decreased numbers due to decrease in staff.
Explain why this type of data is needed for this particular problem or opportunity. How will you obtain the necessary data?
This information is needed to get a better understanding of how employee turnover can affect the overall health of a company. This will also help me examine how employee experience can change the course of a month or even a year in a store. The true test is to figure out how to keep employees happy and motivated, who love their job and want to progress in the company despite the changes to retail environment, traffic, and payout structure. I will obtain this information from my regional manager along with the Verizon quarterly and yearly reviews.

Identify, interpret, summarize, and synthesize Human Factors literature to identify its strengths and limitations.
The purpose of the literature review is to allow you to identify, interpret, summarize, and synthesize Human Factors literature to identify its strengths and limitations. Conducting a literature review is a valuable skill for every student, but it is especially important for graduate students who are responsible for implementing a project or writing a thesis/dissertation. A literature review is an objective summary and critical analysis of literature pertaining to a specific topic. It is logically organized into subtopics and refers to the most relevant and up-todate literature.
The typical process for a literature review is as follows: (1) select a topic; (2) systematically search the literature; (3) gather, summarize, and synthesize the literature; (4) write the literature review; (5) revise, revise, revise. Note that another step in the literature review process is to document all references and in-text citations in APA format.
I highly encourage you to use a citation manager program for this, as it will automate most of this task for you. Some of the easily available ones are Mendeley, Zotero. You are free to choose the topic of your literature review, but it must be relevant to the Human Factors domain, and it must be approved by the instructor. Given the effort required to conduct a literature review, it behooves you to choose a topic that is most relevant to your MS/PhD research focus and to focus on articles that are recent. If you do not have a research focus, you should choose a topic that is most interesting to you. For the literature review, you are expected to select and review at least 20 articles. You must start the literature review with an introduction that describes the importance of the topic and you must conclude the literature review with a section that summarizes what you have found as well as potential next steps. The body of your literature review must be organized into clear subtopics that illustrate how the literature is grouped into themes. You should organize the body of the literature review in a clear, consistent, and logical way and avoid the use of jargon or confusing words. Avoid simply summarizing the articles and what other authors have found; you must critically evaluate the literature, which will indicate your expertise in the topic. When synthesizing the articles, you must indicate its strengths and weaknesses and its similarities and differences to other articles. I encourage you to view the supplementary material on Moodle for more information about what should be contained in the final literature review. To ensure that you make substantial progress towards completing the literature review on time, there are preliminary assignments that lead to the final report. •
