Using your own critical thinking in conjunction with the Frankenstein text itself and the historical material and/or current debates

Frankenstein evokes literary themes that arguably parallel those found in the development of western thinking along several dimensions, including changes or innovations in: social norms, political organization, scientific discovery, and economic production. Using your own critical thinking in conjunction with the Frankenstein text itself and the historical material and/or current debates we have studied this semester, write a paper where you develop your own conclusion on the appropriate balance between the benefits of society’s pursuit of knowledge (“Light” in Frankenstein) and the potential risks and dangers when that pursuit goes wrong (“Fire” in Frankenstein). Your analysis can take any direction that allows you to present your best writing and deepest analytical thinking. In-text citation and reference page required.

How the construction of race is arbitrary

Using the articles “Changing Race,” by C. Rodriquez (in the Readings folder), “Notes of a White Black Woman,” by J. Scales-Trent (in the Readings folder), and the news articles and video on Bollywood actor Priyanka Chopra (found at the end of PART I), do the following:

Use information from Changing Race (required) and Notes of a White Black Women (required), and the news articles and video to discuss how the construction of race is arbitrary. Think about how skin walking and the arbitrary construction of race applies to Priyanka Chopra, as she moved from being a Bollywood actor and star, to Hollywood, where there are so few Southeast Asian actors. In the articles about Priyanka Chopra, think about the significance of skin color and how it is valued in one place, and not in another. There are similar discussions in Changing Race and Notes of a White Black Women. Be sure to refer the power point slides with audios on this topic: how and why the construction of race is arbitrary.

Requirements:

– In your discussion, make sure to define what race as an arbitrary construction means, and do notprovide a dictionary definition, and do notdefine each word individually.

– In your discussion, use specific examples from the required reading: an example is not a general statement, but provides specific information.

– Only use relevant material from the required reading; not everything in the readings is relevant.

– Correct citations in the paragraphs are required. A bibliography is not required.

– Write a minimum of 2 paragraphs (approximately 10 full and meaningful sentences per paragraph).
