Describe and analyze a monster of your choice from a culture that is not your primary one (or that is not well-known in your culture).

Overview

Although this is a formal assignment (graded), it shouldn’t take much longer than one of your informal discussion board reading journal posts, and I tried to make it both easy and fun. In past semesters, I would give students longer and harder assignments but decided to keep this one pretty easy because of how jacked up the world is right now and since this is a literature seminar (discussion) class rather than a paper writing class.

What do I want you to do?

Describe and analyze a monster of your choice from a culture that is not your primary one (or that is not well-known in your culture). In other words, don’t do Frankenstein or something everyone knows in our culture. There’s a list of potential monsters under Content->Readings (entitled List of Non-Western and Lesser Known Western Monsters). But feel free to research any monster that you’ve wondered about—ranging from the pontianak and the wendigo to the quareen or boo hag. The only monster you shouldn’t do is the huli jing since we did that one in class a few weeks ago.

Specific Assignment Criteria

Your post should be 175-250 words and contain these parts:

a*A physical description of the monster you’re describing and analyzing

b*Some cultural context for your monster: Here I just want some context for understanding the monster. What kind of context? That’s up to you. As long as it gives me a broader understanding of your subject, I’m happy. And it can be just a couple of lines. But, to give you some ideas, you can discuss such things as what country/culture your monster comes from, how stories about it have changed over time, cultural traditions associated with it, famous books or anime associated with it, etc.). I’m really open to any sort of context here.

What is a civic inquiry? A civic sensibility? As you begin to think about fostering a civic sensibility within your area of study, examine carefully the learning capacities identified as a 21st century framework for civic learning and democratic engagement, which of these capabilities does your area of study especially embrace? Or put another way, which are associated as outcomes for your disciplinary domain? ( My area of study is Business Administration), no sources needed.

Learning Assignment – Ethical Dilemma – Grading forum

Write a paper reviewing a peer-reviewed article about an ethical need in the Pediatric setting. It can be home care, acute care, or general care.

The student will find the article. The instructor recommends search words such as: Ethics, Ethical care, Pediatric, Child, infant, adolescent, children, ethical issues, nursing care, etc., although the student may use other search words. The librarian may be helpful. Find something of interest to you. The paper is due week 4.

  • The entire paper must be in APA 7th edition formatting. The instructor has provided a template – use it.
  • Each paragraph requires at least 3 sentences but a sufficient number to respond completely to each section.
  • Do not copy and paste the information from the article into the paragraph. Analyze, paraphrase, summarize, etc. with appropriate citations. Do your own work.
  • Do not use more than one quote per six sentences.
  • Upload a copy of the article.
  • Turnitin will generate a report when you turn it in. While the percentage of unoriginal work is reviewed, the content is reviewed and is more important than a percentage number. Revise as needed and resubmit.

Paper must include:

  • Cover page in APA 7th edition
  • In the Introduction, include:
    • What is an ethical dilemma?
    • What is the dilemma in this article?

  • Write a conclusion, include:
    • A brief summary of the contents of the paper.
    • Final words of wisdom.

Do not use first or second person in the paper. The only section that first person may be used is in the opinion section.

Consider using headings for the different sections.

Reference page must be APA 7th edition formatted. At least 3 references including the article chosen. The references are peer-reviewed and less than 7 years old. Use the textbook as well. If you choose a website for supporting documentation use only .gov, .edu, or .org websites.

Practical Connection Assignment

It is a priority that students are provided with strong educational programs and courses that allow them to be servant-leaders in their disciplines and communities, linking research with practice and knowledge with ethical decision-making. This assignment is a written assignment where students will demonstrate how this course research has connected and put into practice within their own career.

Assignment:

Provide a reflection of at least 500 words (or 2 pages double spaced) of how the knowledge, skills, or theories of this course have been applied, or could be applied, in a practical manner to your current work environment. If you are not currently working, share times when you have or could observe these theories and knowledge could be applied to an employment opportunity in your field of study.

Requirements:

Provide a 500 word (or 2 pages double spaced) minimum reflection.

Use of proper APA formatting and citations. If supporting evidence from outside resources is used those must be properly cited.

Share a personal connection that identifies specific knowledge and theories from this course.

You should NOT, provide an overview of the assignments assigned in the course. The assignment asks that you reflect how the knowledge and skills obtained through meeting course objectives were applied or could be applied in the workplace.

Demonstrate a connection to your current work environment. If you are not employed, demonstrate a connection to your desired work environment.

How broad is the scope of ethical consideration, especially concerning engineering projects?

Ethics studies questions like “What should I do? What are my responsibilities? What’s for the best?” Our values determine how we answer these questions, and different sets of values might give rise to distinct answers to these questions. By ‘values’, I mean the full range of concerns that you might have, both implicitly and explicitly held, including preferences, goals, assumptions, traditions, and politics, but also theories about how the world works and methods for evaluating its performance. In simplest terms: your values are all the things that matter to you.

In Lesson 1 we talked about how different value systems might influence engineering projects. In Lesson 2 I want to talk about the scope of ethical consideration. By “scope”, I mean to ask which issues and perspectives that are included in our discussions of values, and which are excluded. For your second post, consider any of the following questions: How broad is the scope of ethical consideration, especially concerning engineering projects? What values and perspectives should engineers consider when thinking about the ethical dimensions of his or her work? Which values or perspectives (if any) should be ignored? Are all values the same, or do some values and perspectives matter more than others? Whose values and perspectives matter more? Should they matter more? What impact does the scope of ethical consideration have on the engineering projects we build? Use the material below to help formulate your response.

Women with a BRCA1 or BRCA2 genetic mutation have up to a 72% risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetimes (compared to 12-13% for women overall).

According to BRCA1 and BRCA2 Testing “Women with a BRCA1 or BRCA2 genetic mutation have up to a 72% risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetimes (compared to 12-13% for women overall).” but if tested positive for these genes it does not mean that the harmful cancer is or will be formed. It is recommended to have follow ups and pay attention to these things with your doctor so if it is formed then starting the steps necessary. Treating things like cancer is very tough on the body. Getting a double mastectomy or doing other things when testing positive for BRCA1 and BRCA2 while not developing cancer yet or unknown is not technically necessary until your doctor recommends it.

BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes reliable predictors of cancer. “For women who carry these genes, the probability of breast cancer at some point in their life is over 80% (Campbell, 2018).”

When it comes to taking steps to reduce the risk of developing breast cancer through a double mastectomy, I feel it is a very personal choice. On one hand there is a 20% chance breast cancer will never develop so there is still hope. On the other hand with an 80% chance of development it would be more beneficial to have the mastectomy vs not doing anything at all.

If I carried the BRCA genes I would 100% get the double mastectomy but again it is a personal choice.

Choose a company, consider its business and costing requirements, and recommend a costing system that will work best for the business.

Companies choose their costing method based on their business activities and processes, as well as the products and services they offer. A company can be a manufacturing, merchandising, or service organization; this also impacts which costing method will be most useful for its purposes. As a part of costing, the company also needs to decide how to classify overhead costs using either traditional or activity-based costing (ABC).

In this written assignment, you will choose a company, consider its business and costing requirements, and recommend a costing system that will work best for the business.

Prompt

Think about a company you know. This could be a current or past employer or a company you admire. Consider its business activities and the type of products and services offered. Based on what you have learned so far, write a short paper that reflects on the different costing methods and speculates on how they might apply to your selected company.

Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:

  • Company Overview: Identify the company you selected and provide a brief overview of its business.
    • Is it a manufacturing, merchandising, or service organization?
  • Costing Methods: Compare the job order and process costing methods, and explain how each of these can be applied to the company.
    • How could the costs differ if one method is chosen over the other?
  • Factory Overhead: Outline possible indirect or overhead costs the company may need to account for, and identify the type of costing the company might use for these costs.
    • If the company decides to use activity-based costing (ABC), what are some activity bases (cost drivers) it might use to allocate these costs?
  • Recommendation: Based on your analysis, recommend a costing method for the company, and explain why you think this method will work best for the business.
