Current Event Assignments
Research and development efforts are constantly producing new computer-related technologies and applications. These new developments are continuing to change the way we work, play and interact with other people. Given the scope of issues that affect IT practices, students may choose to discuss any computer crime/cyberlaw element, including cultural, political, legal, technological and competitive issues that can potentially affect people and the legal system. The report should illustrate current cases and/or practices related to the course material. Each student must relate their topic to information obtained from the course materials and lectures. Your research must have happened in the past 6 months (current).
Give a short description of what the article is about and how it relates to the course material (A minimum of 1-full page). Your submission should include your own thoughts about the article. That is, it should include relevant observations, implications and questions about the article. You need to be prepared to discuss your article in class. Be sure to have 3-5 questions prepared to ask the class. (You must submit the questions with your assignment).
DO NOT discuss the below topics:
- Target
- Neiman Marcus

Analyze “The Bosses of the Senate” political cartoon by Joseph Keppler beyond the most obvious level.
Analyze “The Bosses of the Senate” political cartoon by Joseph Keppler beyond the most obvious level.
Political cartoons, at their best, can show a national ire or appreciation of circumstances. Rarely does this medium hide the agenda or bias being reflected in the art. Though messages in this format are frequently clear to the viewer, understanding them can show a clear understanding of an era or concept.
Your assignment is to show me that you UNDERSTAND the message and meaning behind the cartoon of your choosing.
– There is no LENGTH that is or is not correct. Make sure it is long enough, but concise and pithy.
– I DO NOT need a description of the entire cartoon. Reflect on the cartoon. Give a general description as it applies to your argument.
– Please arrange your response in the traditional MLA / THESIS- BODY- CLOSING format.
– Citation is not needed in this assignment: the thoughts must be your own.
– I am slightly flexible when it comes to grammar mistakes; however, if it is clear that format and grammar rules are completely disregarded- count on it having an impact.
Discuss how purchasing decisions, supported by cross-functional collaboration, helps the supply chain operate efficiently.
Part 3.4 of our textbook describes the role that procurement has in a supply chain operation. The procurement of materials for a supply chain involves contracting with suppliers (Tier 1), who in turn quite often contract with other suppliers (Tier 2) to create the materials that they sell to the company for the company to create its product for sale to the consumer. To achieve efficiency in the procurement area of its supply chain operation, a company needs to make decisions based on cost alone and other elements of the supplier relationship. Decisions relating to these elements require the procurement team to collaborate with other business functions such as finance and information technology (IT). How does the vivid language heighten our understanding of this scene? What is Power trying to say and how does the language help him achieve this?
Respond to the questions in a few sentences
Q1: Read the Power essay with a careful eye/ear for language. What role does word choice play? Take a specific look at this paragraph: “Metal letters on a low, windowless bunker of weathered concrete, a flagpole raised against a dark underbelly of cloud. The flag—seven stars more than the 7th Cavalry rode here under—hums in the Plains wind, fraying, fading, unstitching itself, the stripes splitting to ribbons.” What do we learn about this community/setting/situation from the language Power uses to describe it? Is there a particular mood or tone he creates? Metaphors? Are these helpful to understanding the material? Why?
Here is the final paragraph of the essay:
Fire Thunder beats a drum rhythm out on the mattress, closes his eyes, and wails out a phrase in Lakota, a sacred song to the four directions. The three men beat the cadence together, and the voice rises, hoarse and fierce, and the wind picks up, stirs the half-burned trash in the fire pit, rattles the dry cottonwood branches, bends the grass. Louder, and the wind fiercer, and, spinning with eyes closed, the wind sweeps away the bars, destroys them plank by plank, draws off into the sky like scattering seeds the cans of Camo Black Ice and Evil Eye and Hurricane, all the shards of loss and grief plucked out and gone, and the Lakota men are alone on the wide silent prairie.
Q2: How does the vivid language heighten our understanding of this scene? What is Power trying to say and how does the language help him achieve this?ATTACHMENTSattachment_1
