Design Your Own Plan for Becoming an Engineering Champion for Christ

Prepare the first section of your DYOP (Design Your Own Plan), which covers GOAL SETTING. Be sure to utilize the information contained in Engineering Fundamentals: An Introduction to Engineering, other course assignments, and class discussions. Cite references as appropriate.

You should approach this project by evaluating where a “world-class” Engineering Champion for Christ would be for each of the topics addressed and what you are implementing to achieve this goal. The method involves 1) understanding what the research says is effective, 2) evaluating your current performance/practices against the research, 3) identifying areas for improvement based on the evaluation, 4) developing a plan for closing the gap, and 5) implementing the plan. Be sure to consider how you’re going to stay accountable.

Submit the DYOP in pdf form no later than the date / time indicated. Your submission should be a minimum of three pages in length, double spaced, with one-inch margins. Start early, make steady progress, use the resources at your disposal, and submit on time to receive full credit!

Your GOAL SETTING paper should include learning/observations/research from the following:

  • Interview two people as part of the research for this paper. In your discussion, you should talk about their goals, what they suggest would be some good goals for you to set, and how to be successful in the engineering program. Your interviewees should include practicing engineers, junior/senior level engineering students, engineering lab techs, freshman mentors, engineering faculty, or engineering professional advisors.
  • Discuss your goals for this semester … this school year … graduation … post-graduation. Write your goals in the form of SMART goals
  • How will you successfully achieve each of your goals? In other words, what’s your plan? What will you put in place to hold yourself accountable?
  • What are you passionate about and how does this relate to you studying engineering? How would you describe your level of perseverance when it comes to studying engineering? Perseverance is related to practice and hope. How can you strengthen your perseverance? Assess yourself on Angela Duckworth’s Grit Scale and reflect on the results.
  • Would you say that you tend to have a fixed mindset or growth mindset? Think about the way you deal with challenges and obstacles. What is your view about effort? How do you deal with criticism? How do you view other peoples’ success? Which mindset do you think would bring a person more success and more happiness in life? If you see some fixed mindset traits in yourself, what could you do to change your mindset? Assess yourself on Carol Dweck’s Mindset Interactive Quiz and reflect on the results.
  • Review section 1.2-1.4 of Engineering Fundamentals: An Introduction to Engineering. Which of the engineering disciplines is most appealing to you? What appeals to you about this discipline? Money? Prestige? Challenging work? Making a difference. Reflect on your choices and why they are important to you.
  • Search the Liberty University website and make a list of at academic resources available to students. Pick two or three of the resources and describe the nature of the resource (name, location, URL, hours of operation) and the services available. Reflect on how you can utilize these resources in the future to aid you on your journey to becoming a master student.
Gender Discrimination

In this written assignment, you will present your work on the case analysis using selected components of an argumentative essay as described in Sections 9.1 and 9.2 of With Good Reason: A Guide to Critical Thinking (Hardy, Foster, & Zúñiga y Postigo, 2015). This written assignment will include a revised and polished version of your discussion work, the presentation and support of two premises, and an analysis of how your chosen ethical theory offers the best moral solution to the business problem in your case analysis.

Using the components of the argumentative essay located in Sections 9.1 and 9.2 of With Good Reason: A Guide to Critical Thinking (Hardy, Foster, & Zúñiga y Postigo (2015), your assignment should include the following:

An introduction. This is the “Problem” portion of the essay that is covered in Section 9.1: The Argumentative Essay (Hardy, Foster, & Zúñiga y Postigo, 2015). This should be an improved version of the introduction in your initial post, revised on the basis of your professor’s feedback and additional research. In this introduction you will need to (a) identify the specific issue or problem that you want to address and give an impartial presentation of the controversy, (b) articulate briefly the characteristics of the economic system that serves as the setting for the business, and (c) examine the laws that affect the operations of the business. The introduction should be one paragraph of around 200 words in length.

A thesis. Start a new paragraph with a precise and clear sentence in which you state your moral position with regard to the case that you presented in your first paragraph. This is known as stating your thesis. (See the “Thesis” passage in “The Argumentative Essay” in Hardy, Foster, & Zúñiga y Postigo, 2015). The thesis you state here should be an improved version of the thesis in your initial post in the discussion, revised on the basis of your professor’s feedback and your reading of “The Argumentative Essay” indicated above.

A thesis is only one sentence, so do not write a series of sentences, or a complex sentence with explanatory clauses (e.g., “because…” or “since…” or “according to Dr. Mary Expert, an economist with the Bureau of Labor statistics…”, or “a law that was ratified with 80% votes in favor…”). An example of a precise and clear thesis is this: “Factory farms are not morally justifiable” or, of course, the opposite point of view: “Factory farms are morally justifiable.” Keep in mind that your thesis in this assignment will be the basis for the argumentative essay of the Week 5 written assignment, so take your time when formulating this thesis.

Ethical theory. In the same second paragraph as the thesis statement, identify the ethical theory that supports your moral position. You may choose from utilitarianism, duty ethics, or virtue ethics. Present the characteristics of the ethical theory in a broad sketch, and include citations and references in APA form. Then, apply your chosen ethical theory by explaining how it lends itself to the moral position that you are defending.

Two premises. Present at least two reasons in support of your thesis and these should be presented in the form of a claim. These are called premises. Articulate each premise in one clear and grammatically correct sentence. Review Section 9.1 of With Good Reason: A Guide to Critical Thinking (Foster, Hardy, and Zúñiga y Postigo, 2015). Start a new paragraph for each.

In the rest of the paragraph, support your premise by presenting an analysis of how the ethical theory lends itself to the best solution. This analysis includes articulating the characteristics(s) of the economic system at work that support the claims in your premises. It also includes examining the effects of the law(s) at work that also support the claims in your premises.

Comparative analysis. In the final paragraph, analyze how this application lends itself to a solution that is superior to that offered by one of the ethical theories that you did not select. To do this, provide a clear statement describing the moral solution offered by this other theory. For example, if you chose utilitarianism to apply to your case, then you can choose from either virtue ethics or deontology for your comparative analysis. Explain in no more than three sentences what moral solution would result from the application of this other ethical theory. See the “Sample Case Analysis download” for an illustration of how this would look like. Finally, analyze the strengths of the moral solution presented by your chosen ethical theory in ways that demonstrate how it is superior to the moral solution offered by the other ethical theory.

Once you receive your assignment back from your professor, start working on revisions based on your professor’s feedback. This is the first step in preparing your Final Project and the details are presented on the Final Project’s prompt. You will benefit from starting your Final Project as soon as you receive your assignment back from your professor.

Intro to Computing/Data Analysis … Use the Simple Query Wizard to create a query

What should Mike purchase?

Case Study

Mike is a new front office manager who has inherited computers with different ages. Some were bought recently with all of the latest features, while others were over three years old. His four computers at the front desk were the newer ones that were required to run the many applications used in the running of the hotel. His computer in his office was older and was used primarily for managerial tasks involving spreadsheets and word processing applications in addition to e-mail and other Internet functions. In addition to the front desk staff, Mike managed the concierge department and van drivers. Each of these outlets contained two old computers. Mike was also in charge of the hotel’s business center near the front desk with five older computers in addition to a printer and scanner. In total Mike had fourteen computers under his management.

Guests who frequented Mike’s hotel were primarily business travelers who tended to bring their own laptop computers and smart phones. Some traveled with just their cell phones and needed access to a desktop computer for a short period of time. One thing they all had in common is that more often than not, they needed to print something.

Vague of Windows was the OS for the computer and was the required one for the hotel system at the front desk, concierge stations, and the van drivers. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Mike’s limited budget will allow him to purchase only three new computers. Mike knows a little bit more than the average person about technology and is thinking of possibly moving away from computers to other computing devices.

Recently, Mike read the following articles about mobile phone uses for business travelers.

News release of 2015 Expedia Egencia Mobile Index Study, https://viewfinder.expedia.com/news/expedia-egencia-mobile-index-study-of-global-travelers-reveals-that-they-now-consider-the-smartphone-to-be-their-most-indispensable-travel-companion (Links to an external site.) ,

Unfortunately, the pandemic hit the business badly. Mike read several articles about COVID-19 and hotel technology. For example,
