How can I control my weight
  1. Format: (1 page, excluding references and optional figure)
  1. Background: In the last decades weight control has become an issue of great importance for the health system. Obesity with the correlated pathologies such as metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases etc. has a dramatic impact on the health system. On the other hand, in a globalized culture that values image and good health, people are under constant stress to keep up with trends. In light of these conditions and the progress that is being made to cure obesity, please elaborate on this health problem, which impacts a large segment of the population, even here in Qatar. Therefore, please provide in the background information statistics on obesity in Qatar as well as in the world, and causes of obesity (1/4 page; 0.5 pts).
  1. How cellular metabolism is involved in weight control: Describe the cellular and molecular mechanisms related to energy production. Consider the organic molecules involved in cellular respiration and explain how cells burn energy (1). Explain how athletes perform cellular respiration in comparison to an obese individual.  Try to depict which cell organelles are involved in energy production, and what may cause disruption of this mechanism to lead to obesity (2). Also, try to focus on the consequences of fat accumulation in the body in terms of chronic inflammation and the subsequent physical complications that may arise (1/2 page; 1 pts).
  1. Conclusion: Finally, give your opinion about ways to prevent and correct the problem of obesity by providing solutions to improve cellular function in the context of cellular respiration (1/4 page; 0.5 pts).

3-  Additional instructions:

  • You should write your name, student ID number and THE SECTION you belong to at the top of your report.
  • You need to include the subtitles above (Background,How cellular metabolism is involved in weight control, and conclusion).
  • It is encouraged to include one figure with legend in the second page with the references.
  • Your one page report plus one page of references with an optional figure, should be written using Arial Font (size: 11) with single space.
  • References should be introduced in the text as numbers, and listed in full on a second page along with the figure as indicated above.
  • Please make every effort to make the report your own. Any reports found to have more than 20% matching score will receive points deductions as described below.

Matching score between 20% to 30%: 0.3 pts deduction

Matching score between 30% to 40%: 0.6 pts deduction

Matching score between 40% to 50%: 0.9 pts deduction

Matching score more than 50%: 1.25 pts deduction

  • You should submit a soft copy of your report without references through SafeAssign on blackboard.
  • You should also email me a soft copy with references on or before the
