Identify three factors that could worsen the exchange rate between the US dollar and the Nepalese rupee.

Strickler Technology Inc., a Texas-based manufacturer of computer equipment, is considering the establishment of a manufacturing plant in Nepal, a small South Asian country with a population of about 28.1 million. The country’s currency is the Nepalese rupee (NPR), and it is traded against most foreign currencies including the U.S. dollar. The exchange rate between the NPR and the U.S. dollar is quoted in the forex market as:
$1 = NPR 120
The financial team of the company has gathered that Nepal is a parliamentary republic with a multi-party system. Nepal’s GDP was $34.2 billion in 2019 with annual growth rate of 6.6%. Nepal is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, although the growth rate is expected to decline because of the covid-19 pandemic. Per the agreement with the Nepalese government, the project will be transferred to a local private entrepreneur at the end of 10 years. The financial management team of Strickler Technology Inc. has estimated the cost of the project in Nepal to be US$10 million.
Strickler Technology Inc. is also considering ways to improve its working capital management. The Credit manager of the company, Sean Messer MBA explained that the company can change some aspects of its short-term financial policy from aggressive approach to maturity matching approach to fund current assets to improve its working capital management, which can lead, in turn, to larger free cash flows and greater firm value. A board member, Jacky Jackson was of the view that cash budget is a primary tool of short-term financial planning that can be used to improve the cash management of the company. She believed that having short-to-medium term cash budget for the next five years can help the company identify its short-term financial needs or opportunities and the required amount needed to borrow for the next five years. In that way the company will be able to arrange for short-term finance in advance to reduce the risk of cash shortages.
The Board of the company needs your technical input to decide whether to enter the Nepalese market or not, and best ways to manage its working capital.

  1. Based on the exchange rate between the Nepalese rupee and the U.S. dollar, what is the cost of the project in Nepalese rupee?
  2. A computer costs $800 in the United States. The same model of computer costs NPR96,800 in Nepal, what is the spot exchange rate between NPR and the US dollar if purchasing power parity holds?
  3. Identify three factors that could worsen the exchange rate between the US dollar and the Nepalese rupee.
  4. According to the theory of relative purchasing power parity, if inflation in Nepal is predicted to be 9% over the next three years whereas the U.S. inflation rate will be 3%, what will be the exchange rate in three years?
  5. Based on the answer to question 4 above, the finance team wants to know whether the Nepali rupee will depreciate or appreciate. (Choose one: depreciate or appreciate) and why?
  6. The shareholders of Strickler Technology Inc. want to know the benefits of doing international business in Nepal. List four advantages that can convince the shareholders of the company to accept the project in Nepal.
  7. The shareholders also want to know some of the risks associated with doing business in Nepal. Explain three risks the company is likely to face if it goes ahead with the project in Nepal.
  8.  Using the ratios below:
    Inventory conversion period  80 days
    Average collection period 55 days
    Payables deferral period 52 days
Cash conversion cycle for previous year 79 days

    i. Calculate the cash conversion cycle and explain what it means.
ii. Identify three actions that the firm can take to shorten its cash conversion cycle.
  9. The cash budget shows that the company will need $2.5 million to finance its working capital needs in next three years. List five sources of financing the company can use to raise the money if it wants to use a self-liquidating approach.
  10. List three advantages and disadvantages of using short-term debt rather than long-term debt.
Submit your answers in a Word document.

Nurses are the most honest and ethical professionals in America, according to Gallup (Reinhart, 2020). For the 18th year in a row, nurses are rated the highest for honesty and ethics among a list of professions. Currently, 85% of Americans say nurses’ honesty and ethical standards are “very high” or “high,” compared with 9% for car salespeople. Patients’ health, autonomy, and even life or death, are affected by nurses’ decisions and actions. The NAM (2020) vision with The Future of Nursing 2020-2030 continues to emphasize that the role of nursing in health care and the nexus between the actions of nurses and patient outcomes.

Briefly explain the alternative form of payment that you researched and how it works as an alternative to traditional cash.

Discussion 1 Topic
It has been said that compound interest is “man’s greatest invention.” The sentiment is very much true. More wealth likely been created through the concept of compound interest than any other mechanism. Famous financial advisor Dave Ramsey Links to an external site.often illustrates the power of compound interest through the story of Ben and Arthur.
Ben starts saving $2,000 a year ($165 a month) at age 19, stops saving at age 26, and never saves another dime. His brother, Arthur, starts saving the same amount later—at age 27—but saves until age 65, almost his entire life. Ben saved for 7 years and Arthur saved the same amount for 38 years. With a 12% rate of return, guess who came out ahead at retirement?
The answer is Ben would have $2,288,996 while Arthur would only have $1,532,166. Ben has nearly $750,000 more money even though he saved for 31 years less than Arthur, all because he started at a younger age and compound interest had more time to grow the investment.
To check your status, it is generally accepted that you should be meeting the following benchmarks to retire by age 67:
By 30: You should have the equivalent of your salary saved
By 40: You should have three times your salary saved
By 50: You should have six times your salary saved
By 60: You should have eight times your salary saved
By 67: You should have 10 times your salary saved
What this means is the younger you can get started investing for retirement, the better. In this chapter we have discussed the various forms of investments, from bonds, to stocks, to mutual funds. Consider the benefits of each type of investment as you respond to the discussion questions.
Questions
Answer the following:
Assume that you are meeting the benchmarks described above, which means you have the equivalent of your annual salary saved by age 30 (or 3 times your salary by age 40). How would you invest that money to make sure you are on track to retire? Would you use bonds, stocks, mutual funds? Provide a rationale for your choice?
What challenges do you feel prevent young people from saving? What can you do to overcome those challenges?

Discussion Topic

How much cash do you have on you right now? Check your wallet, purse, and pockets, and see what you have. Do you have enough to make change for a twenty-dollar bill? Not so long ago, you could ask a roomful of people that question, and most folks would have the cash on hand to make change. These days, it’s less common. Think about the last five or six purchases you made. Did you pay with cash? Chances are good that you used a debit card or a credit card instead. Consider the possibility that someday debit and credit cards will disappear, too.
Technology has had a profound impact on our view of the necessity of cash. As we move towards a “cashless” society, the banking system is also challenged to adapt its processes and the services it provides.
Go beyond what you learned in the course module, and research some of the forms of “virtual currency” or cash alternatives that are currently available to consumers. Some of these include digital currencies, EFT, ACH transactions, iPay, Google Wallet, ePayments, direct draft.

Answer the following:
Briefly explain the alternative form of payment that you researched and how it works as an alternative to traditional cash.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of this form of payment?
As a consumer yourself, do you use any forms of cash alternatives? Which ones? Do you have concerns about the security of this payment method, and if so, what can you do to mitigate these?

Discussion 3 Topic
As we have learned in this chapter, undercapitalization is the number one reason why businesses fail. Simply put, undercapitalization means the company does not have enough money to survive during times when revenue (income) does not meet expectations. Two of the primary ways that companies raise capital is through either debt or equity financing.
Debt financing is when a company borrows money to be paid back at a specified future date, and a specified interest rate. Equity financing, on the other hand, is the process of raising capital through the sale of ownership in the company (most commonly through stock). Imagine you have a small business that you anticipate will grow quickly, and you need to raise money. Consider the pros and cons of debt financing and equity financing as you respond to the discussion questions.

Answer the following:
If you were looking to raise money for your small business, would you choose debt or equity financing? Justify your choice with specific reasons.
