Summarize the factors that differentiate international and domestic HRM.

The Quickwrite consists of 5 questions (answer each question in a complete paragraph 150-200 words):

  • What terms were the most important concepts of this week’s lesson? Be sure to define any important terms in your own words.
  • What was your muddiest point (that is, what did not make sense)? Identify at least one resource (outside of your textbook) that is scholarly/practitioner based and cite it in APA style that helps resolve this question.
  • What would you like to know more about from this lesson, and why? Identify at least one resource (outside of your textbook) that is scholarly/practitioner based and cite it in APA style that helps resolve this question (this must be different from the source that you cite for the second question).
  • How does this lesson relate to something you have already learned outside of this class?
  • How might you apply the lesson to your present or future work experiences?

identify the key people and main ideas, as well as what you find compelling and what you don’t about each of the five major perspectives in psychology.

Major Perspectives of Psychology

Instructions

The five major perspectives of modern psychology are important to understand because they are central to other key concepts and theories throughout the course. For example, you will learn about them again in our discussion about personality and psychological disorders. For this assignment, using the Psychological Perspectives Comparison template (Links to an external site.), fill in the table to identify the key people and main ideas, as well as what you find compelling and what you don’t about each of the five major perspectives in psychology.

Your chart should:

· Include at least 2 bullet points in each box

· Bullet points do not have to be in complete sentences (but should have enough explanation for each point to be clear and understandable)

· Should be in your own words (don’t just copy/paste from the book or a website – break down the ideas in your own words to explain what these perspectives are all about)

· Should include a list of references used in APA format following the template (this list should include at minimum your lessons and your textbook).

· In-text citations are not required (remember, this will be in your own words so don’t copy/paste)

· Be informed by content from your readings, lessons, and research this week.

Explain a data-related scenario or example related to your job/industry where simply  knowing the mean related to a variable of interest is not sufficient for you to make good decisions or conclusions.

You will reflect on the career/industry that you have been writing about in the previous homework assignment which is Data Analyst at Amazon.

Answer each of the following in about  150-200 words (for each part).

1. Explain a data-related scenario or example related to your job/industry where simply  knowing the mean related to a variable of interest is not sufficient for you to make good decisions or conclusions.  Explain fully, since you are speaking to people who are not familiar with your job, firm, and possibly industry. (For example, at my university, we report averages all of the time, like average student SAT score. But that is not a full picture and might not be enough when we make decisions.)

2. In relation to the above, would knowing  variance/standard deviation and  other measures of dispersion add to your understanding? Be clear about what variance/standard deviation might tell you in this scenario and why it might lead to better decision-making or conclusions.  Explain fully, since you are speaking to people who are not familiar with your job, firm, and possibly industry. (Again, when we think about SATs of our LU students, we can learn more when we have more descriptive statistics.)

Explain what variables are  discrete versus continuous

Answer each with approximately  300-400  words  (each part A, B, C, D, E), depending on how much information is being requested.  The last question (F)  involves only creation of a table only and no discussion is needed. Please create a Word Table or paste in something from Excel.

aa) Please write a couple of sentences reminding us of the job/career/firm/industry you discussed in your first reflective writing. (This will help us understand your examples.). Last week you wrote about data analyst at Amazon.

A) QUALITATIVE DATA:

(i) Start by defining what is meant by  qualitative data . Then, discuss 2-3 examples of qualitative variables that are relevant in the industry/career you have been discussing. You should fully flush out these examples–why might you be interested in them, how and when they would they be collected, etc. Explain the context in which you might use them.

(ii)  Illustrate an understanding of  ordinal versus nominal , by offering 2-3 examples relevant to your job/firm that fall into each category. Be sure to fully communicate an understanding of these concepts.

NOTE THAT THE THINGS YOU DISCUSS ABOVE DO NOT HAVE TO BE VARIABLES YOU ARE ACTUALLY COLLECTING…JUST ONES THAT YOU COULD BE COLLECTING.

B) QUANTITATIVE DATA:

(i) Start by explaining what is meant by  quantitative data .  Then offer examples of  quantitative variables and data that are relevant in the industry/career you have been discussing and how these variables relate to decision-making. Explain why you might be interested in them, how and when you might collect them, etc. Explain the context in which you might use them.

(ii) Explain what variables are  discrete versus continuous , being sure to communicate an understanding of these concepts. Be sure that you explain these statistics concepts before offering examples.

NOTE THAT THE THINGS YOU DISCUSS ABOVE DO NOT HAVE TO BE VARIABLES YOU ARE ACTUALLY COLLECTING…JUST ONES THAT YOU COULD BE COLLECTING.

C) DUMMY AND CATEGORICAL VARIABLES

(i) Explain the idea of a  dummy variable  (the simple kind with 2 states of the world). Come up with 3-4 examples of dummy variables that would be of interest to  your firm. Explain why you might be interested and when/how you might collect and use this information. (Try to not overlap examples that you have already discussed above.)

(ii) Explain the idea of a  categorical dummy variable . Come up a relevant examples of variables for which you would use a categorical dummy variable approach and discuss this fully. Explain why you might be interested in this information and when/how you might collect and use this information. (Try to not overlap examples that you have already discussed above.)

NOTE THAT THE THINGS YOU DISCUSS ABOVE DO NOT HAVE TO BE VARIABLES YOU ARE ACTUALLY COLLECTING…JUST ONES THAT YOU COULD BE COLLECTING.

D) DATA SETS 1

(i) Explain the idea of a  cross-sectional data set. Then, offer a detailed example (related to your job/firm) that you could generate from information available to you, or that might be of interest if it could be collected. Be sure you have shown an understanding of why your example is cross-sectional.

(ii) Explain the idea of a  time-series data set. Then, offer a detailed example (related to your job/firm) that you could generate from information available to you, or that might be of interest if it could be collected. Be sure you have shown an understanding of why your example is time-series.

E) DATA SETS 2

(i) Explain the idea of a  panel data set. Then, offer a detailed example (related to your job/firm) that you could generate from information available to you, or that might be of interest if it could be collected. Be sure you have shown an understanding of why your example is panel.

(ii) Explain the idea of a  pooled data set. Then, offer a detailed example (related to your job/firm) that you could generate from information available to you, or that might be of interest if it could be collected. Be sure you have shown an understanding of why your example is pooled.

F) CONSTRUCT A DATA SET (for this we are  only looking for a table of data)

·

· Select 10 restaurants you are familiar with. They must include at least one fancy, one family sit down, and one fast food.

· See the list of variables that you must code for these restaurants.

· Create a  single table with data that shows how you would code the following quantitative and qualitative variables (some of which will need to be dummy variables or categorical variables). This will be a  machine ready data set.

· But you will keep the qualitative information to help us in grading. (For example, if we were coding people we will have a column of male/female but then also code the dummy variable with 0 or 1).

· Be sure you have a header with variable names (like was used in the lectures).

Variables you will code/include:

·

· Restaurant name (we are just keeping this for organization but do not technically need it to run statistics)

· # of miles from your house (approx. rounded to whole mile)

· If is within 5 miles of your house

· If you have visited this restaurant in the past month

· If is a chain (either regional or national–doesn’t matter)

· Type of restaurant category it fits into (fancy dining, casual sit down, fast food)

Define and describe in  your words the key technological developments of each of the four phases in the evolution of cybertechnology.

Instructions:  There are three (3) topic areas listed below that are designed to measure your knowledge level specific to learning outcome (LO 1) shown in your course syllabus. You must select  any two  of these topic areas and provide appropriate responses in essay form.  In most cases the topic area has several components. Each must be addressed to properly satisfy  requirements.

State-wide and in most professional industries, there has been a mandate that college students be more proficient in their writing.  While this is not a writing class, all writing assignments will be graded for grammar, syntax and typographical correctness to help address this mandate.

Pay attention to what you are being asked to do (see Grading Rubric below). For example, to describe  does not mean to list, but to tell about or illustrate in more than two or three sentences, providing appropriate arguments for your responses  using theories discussed in our text .   Be sure to address all parts of the topic question as most have multiple parts.   A verifiable current event  (less than 4 years old)  relevant to at least  one of the topics you respond to is a fundamental component of your quiz as well.  You cannot use information from the text book or any book/article by the author of the text book as a current event.  Make sure that your reference has a date of publication.  For each chapter quiz and final quiz you are required to find and include at least one reference and reference citation to a current event  less than 4 years old (a reference with no date (n.d.) is not acceptable) in answer to at least one question.  This requires a reference citation in the text of your answer and a reference at the end of the question to which the reference applies.  You must include some information obtained from the reference in your answer.  The references must be found on the internet and you must include a URL in your reference so that the reference can be verified.

You should type your responses directly under the appropriate question. Be sure to include your name on your quiz. Only the first two (2) questions with answers will be graded.  Include  your name in the document filename. Your completed quiz must be  uploaded into the appropriate eCollege Dropbox, no later than 11:59pm on the due date.

1. Define and describe in  your words the key technological developments of each of the four phases in the evolution of cybertechnology.  Please elaborate (beyond a yes or no answer) and provide your “theoretical” rationale in support of your responses  ( knowledge)

2. Access Don Gotterbarn’s arguments for the claim that computer ethics is, at bottom, a field whose primary concern should focus on moral responsibility issues for computer professionals.  Do you agree with his position?   Please elaborate (beyond a yes or no answer) and provide your “theoretical” rationale in support of your responses  ( knowledge)

3. Identify a current ethical issue involving the use of a recent or emerging technology.  Apply the three-step process in the “comprehensive framework” (or strategy for Approaching Moral Issues in Cybertechnology) that was described in Section 1.6.   Please elaborate (beyond a yes or no answer) and provide your “theoretical” rationale in support of your responses  ( knowledge)

How can nurses provide additional support for elderly patients when their main concerns revolve around the home as a place of fear for their return?

The project problem states, “How can nurses provide additional support for elderly patients when their main concerns revolve around the home as a place of fear for their return?” Due to the nature of the nursing workload in the hospital setting, discharge planning tends to be pushed aside due to other priorities. However, it is important that as much as patients are cared for in the inpatient setting, they also need proper preparations for their home setting. The project’s purpose is to provide assistance for nurses and develop a nursing resource guide with regards to important points needed in discharge planning. Dorothea Orem’s Self-Care Deficit nursing theory (Orem, 1991; Orem et al., 2003) is utilized as the theoretical framework for the project. Five content experts will review the resource guide for content validity.

How organizational attributes, culture, or behaviors either support the success of the theme or impede the theme.

Role of IT in Organizations:

There are two parts to this activity.  The first part involves researching concrete examples of organizations using technology to reinvent themselves in some manner. The second part will be to look for generalized themes from those examples and develop a summary of what you learned about the impact of IT on organizations through your research.

Part 1: Identify Reinvention Stories

You will first need to find three (3) examples of organizations (business, non-profit, government agency, etc.) that have successfully transformed themselves (or a large portion of their operations) in the last 5-10 years through the effective use of information technology. After finding and researching as much as you can about these examples, document your findings that you organize into short summaries for inclusion in your assignment submission.  Each summary should be concise, but tell the story and include the following elements:

  • Name of the organization and related URLs.
  • The type of organization (business, non-profit, government, etc.) and a little about the nature of what they do.
  • A description of the technology-oriented business transformation they pursued including: why they did it, how they did it, and the resulting outcomes.
  • Your own observations on what went well and where they may have stumbled. How could they have done better and where should they be going next?

Part 2: Identify Common Themes of Success

After researching and summarizing your example Reinvention Stories above, you should use them to identify common themes related to how organizations successfully leverage technology to grow, reinvigorate or even reinvent themselves.  You should identify 2 themes and provide supporting narrative of each theme that includes the following elements:

  • Description of the theme.
  • Why you identified this theme.
  • How organizational attributes, culture, or behaviors either support the success of the theme or impede the theme.

The supporting narrative for your themes should be added to your Reinvention Stories as part of a single document that you submit as your work on this assignment.  This length of this entire report (both parts) should be be addressed in 800-1,000 words.  It should also reflect good writing, readability, spelling/grammar, and above all, original work on your part. The completed report, including all citations, should be written using APA format and posted to this assignment folder by the due date specified with this assignment.
