If you could change any U.S. domestic policy today, what would it be?
Assignment – Activity: A Policy You Would Change
Introduction
If you could change any U.S. domestic policy today, what would it be? For this activity, choose a policy you would like to change, submit a one-paragraph explanation of the policy you would like to change, and identify three references to support this policy change. This is the same policy you will use to write your Final Reflection (due next week).
Instructions
Step 1: Choose a domestic public policy:
- Energy
- The environment
- Health care
- Social welfare
- Civil rights
- Death penalty
- Gun control
- Taxation
- Assisted suicide
- Affirmative action
- Minimum wage
- Drug legalization
- Immigration
- Hate crimes
- Capital punishment
Note: Approval for your policy is required and will be provided in the grading rubric. If your policy and/or references are not approved you will need to read the instructor feedback and provide an updated policy and/or references to be approved before submitting your final assignment.
Step 2: Identify three references to support the policy change.
- Use reputable sources that support your views, illustrate the severity or urgency of the need for change, discuss current events that make you think about the seriousness of the issue, etc. Remember to review the news sources provided earlier in the course and ensure any references selected outside of that list are reliable.
Step 3: Submit a Word document with your policy choice and one paragraph explaining why that is a policy you’d like to change and citations for your three references.
What assessment and screening tools will you use to support your diagnosis?
Topic: Anxiety and Depression
Common mental health problems such as depression, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder, and social phobia may affect up to 15% of the population at any one time. The severity of symptoms experienced will vary considerably, but all of these conditions can be associated with significant long-term disability. Good communication skills including active listening are key components for building a trusting relationship with patients, for example through demonstrating empathy, by making eye contact and explaining and talking through diagnoses, symptom profiles, and possible treatment options. The evidence base shows that adopting a collaborative approach with patients can help facilitate a greater engagement from them in any resulting treatments.
Jerome is a 35-year-old welder who lives with his partner and two children aged 3 and 5 years. Jerome has come to see you at your primary care clinic as he is feeling tired all the time. Medical history Jerome has a history of anxiety and depression. He joined your clinic as a patient 5 years ago, at which time he was taking sertraline for moderately severe depression and associated panic attacks. This was prescribed by his previous provider. The sertraline was effective and Jerome stopped taking the medication after 6 months of treatment. He has not returned to the clinic since that time. Jerome is otherwise physically fit and well and is not prescribed any medication. On examination, Jerome describes a lack of drive and energy for the past six weeks. He feels stressed at having to face his job, but is still going to work. Jerome admits trying to cope with disrupted sleep patterns by drinking more alcohol than usual. He is now drinking 3 bottles of beer every night instead of only twice per week as he used to. His physical examination is normal but he appears to be sad and apathetic.
- What will be your approach to addressing Jerome’s anxiety and depression?
- What assessment and screening tools will you use to support your diagnosis?
- What might be the physiological causes of Jerome’s anxiety and depression?
- Does Jerome fit into a DSM-5 category/classification?
- What is your plan of care for Jerome? Please support with up-to-date evidence-based standard of care guidelines.
Identify at least two weaknesses that might get in the way of change.
Overview
You are a business development manager in a life sciences organization based in the Midwest. You report to the vice president (VP) of business development. While the organization has shown constant growth and profitability since its inception in 1999, the owners have decided that it is time to sell. The VP has called on you to join the strategic planning team to assess the organization’s exit strategy and make recommendations to the board of directors.
The proposed exit strategy means that the organization will be acquired by another one, which will be a major transformation for the organization and its employees. In order to support the employees through the upcoming acquisition, the planning team wants to understand how they are likely to respond to organizational change. To that end, they decide to ask employees to complete a strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis of their skills as they relate to change readiness. As a member of the planning team, you are one of the first people asked to complete a SWOT analysis and evaluate your change readiness.
Prompt
First, reflect on your own strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) and how they help you accept or resist change. Then, perform a personal SWOT analysis and record the results in a Word document. Describe how you think this analysis impacts your change readiness skills to manage and lead the organizational change in the course scenario.
Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:
- Strengths: Identify at least two strengths that support your readiness for change.
- Explain how they support your readiness for change.
- Weaknesses: Identify at least two weaknesses that might get in the way of change.
- Explain how they can impact your response to change.
- Opportunities: Identify at least two opportunities you can use to leverage your strengths.
- Explain how you can use these opportunities to develop your skills.
- Threats: Identify at least two threats that you would like to minimize.
- Explain how you can minimize these threats and how this will help you develop your skills.
- Change Readiness: Explain what your SWOT analysis reveals regarding your change readiness for the proposed acquisition of the organization in the course scenario.
- Are you ready to accept organizational change that is likely to arise from the proposed acquisition?
- Are you ready to initiate and lead the change efforts for the organization in the scenario? Why or why not?

Predict an issue that will become problematic for law enforcement over the next 20 years that does not currently exist as a major problem in the area of cyber crime.
The Future of Cybercrime Investigation
Prior to beginning work on this discussion read pages 12-16 of the Cybercrime in the Year 2025 (Links to an external site.) online resource, as well as the Laws Need Updating to Combat Cyber Crime (Links to an external site.), officials testify and The Future of Cybercrime (Links to an external site.) online articles, and view the Marc Goodman: A Vision of Crimes in the Future (Links to an external site.)Ted Talk.
Throughout the course we have examined the truth that cyber crime is the next great vanguard for both law enforcement and military protections in the United States. As with anything new in society, law enforcement, courts, and the nation itself require some time to fully understand the threats posed through new technologies and practices. Not only are state and federal legislatures often slow to respond to new crimes and societal changes, creating effective tools and strategies to effectively combat new crimes often takes years to implement.
Fully explore all of the following elements in your 400 word minimum initial post:
- Predict an issue that will become problematic for law enforcement over the next 20 years that does not currently exist as a major problem in the area of cyber crime.
- Create a unique and effective way to investigate the issue identified.
- Evaluate the challenges (both legal and factual) to the investigation methodology, tool, practice and/or issue identified in your issue.
- Predict the effectiveness of the new ways to investigate the issue identified.
