Before beginning your initial post, make certain you have completed the required reading from How the Wise Men Brought Malaria to Africa. Next, flash forward to the 21st century, where zoonotic and vector-borne diseases such as dengue fever, Zika, Lyme, and hantavirus are frequently described in the media. For your initial post,

  • Look for in-depth media coverage, on the internet or news databases such as Newspaper Source Plus (Links to an external site.) and US Newstream (Links to an external site.) from the UAGC Library, that delves into the root causes of an outbreak.
  • Create a story of how today’s “wise men” have often caused these outbreaks with their or our fine intentions. Create your story in whatever style (or format) you wish but include all the pieces to understand the epidemiology and environmental components.
    • In other words, as long as you include the epidemiological pieces needed by your peers, you can write your entry in professional text, or get “out of the box” with a folk tale, audio narrative, or attempt something using multimedia.
    • Thinking outside the box or of possible scenarios is valuable to epidemiologists and public health workers as it allows us to contemplate what may occur in the future.
For example, here is a video (Links to an external site.) of Dr. Anthony Fauci, one of our nation’s leading infectious disease physicians, discussing how devastating a highly infectious respiratory illness could be to the world a mere 6 months prior to the COVID-19 outbreak. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s Dr. Fauci was the leading expert on HIV and AIDS in the United States, and in early 2020 he was called upon to lead the taskforce to address the COVID-19 pandemic.

For your CAP this week, you will be building upon the Discussion outline you created last week, but in paragraph style.  An example is attached for your reference (please note the example is not in APA format).

As a general rule, the discussion section should provide the following:

  • A brief summary of the study purpose (one sentence)
  • A brief summary of the key finding of the study (1-2 sentences)
  • A comparison of your findings to previous literature (~40% of the discussion)
  • Explanation of your findings. What are the mechanisms at play, and why do you think you got the results you did? (~30% of the discussion)
  • Limitations, recommendations for future research, and conclusion (2 paragraphs)

Remember to use in-text citations and provide a references section at the conclusion of your paper.

Discuss how you are applying your chosen characteristic(s) in your life right now at home, work, or school.

This week you’re learning some of the characteristics that will help you practice your relationship-building skill (trust, mutual respect, mindfulness, diversity and inclusion, and open communication).

  • Choose at least one characteristic
  • Discuss how you are applying your chosen characteristic(s) in your life right now at home, work, or school.
Do you believe that deep research or intuition is a more important asset for an investor?

Instructions
Follow the format below while creating your portfolio. You should write in a professional manner except in the reflective piece of the portfolio. Otherwise, all items should be parsed as if they were going to be reviewed by an executive at a financial institution.
Introduction: In 1-2 pages, describe what your original strategy was in choosing your stocks and the strengths that you saw when you did so. Also highlight any areas you avoided. Please keep in mind that you will be evaluating these decisions and their merits in the reflective section.
Stock portfolio: Create a professional presentation of all of the information you have gathered on your stocks throughout the term. Please keep in mind this is a professional presentation; therefore, matching fonts, styles, and readability will be considered in your grade.
Prospectus: In 2-3 pages, suggest what should be done with your stock portfolio going forward. Cite examples from the data you collected while making your suggestions. Please consider which stock you believe will perform in the future and which you believe should be sold. Make sure to consider how long a position you would recommend holding for various stocks.
Reflections: In one 2-3 page essay, speaking as a student and not as a hypothetical professional, answer the following questions.
Were you surprised by how your portfolio performed?
What factors impacted your initial stock selection, and how would the knowledge you have gained in this course have affected the selection if you had it to do all over again?
How did your perception of the state of the current economy affect your stock selection, and how would it have differed if the market were trending in the inverse direction?
What market indicators did you find to be the most informative and why?
Do you believe that deep research or intuition is a more important asset for an investor?

Define and examine both factual and legal defenses to cybercrime allegations.

 Defenses to Cyber Crime Allegations

Prior to beginning work on this discussion read the Brenner, Carrier, & Henninger (2004), and Hernacki (2012) articles. Review the instructions and research a minimum of one additional scholarly source to support your work.Traditional notions of due process, legal defense, and fairness apply to cyber crimes just as they apply to any other notion of more traditional criminal allegations. Throughout your readings this week you have learned that there are two fertile areas for a defense to a cyber crime allegation: factual and legal. A factual defense can easily be summed up by the inimitable legal scholar, Mr. Bart Simpson, of the long-running animated television series, The Simpsons. Bart routinely asserts the factual defenses to allegations of wrong doing as, “I didn’t do it; nobody saw me do it; there’s no way they can prove anything.” These are all valid and somewhat comprehensive definitions of a factual defense. A legal defense, on the other hand, deals with the government’s inability to overcome a defense based on the law in areas such as jurisdiction, vagueness of the law(s), double jeopardy, statutes of limitation, etc. Include the following elements in your 400 word initial post:

  • Define and examine both factual and legal defenses to cybercrime allegations.
    • Your examination must include at least one scholarly source beyond this week’s required readings.
  • Explain which of these two types of defense is the most likely to prevail in the greatest number of cyber crime cases and provide a rationale for your choice.
  • Evaluate ways in which future laws can limit defenses to cyber crime allegations.
