Analyze, identify, and explain recent legislation that helps to protect employees from discrimination in the workplace.
You have been hired as a management consultant by a large company to examine the business decisions of the company in regard to employee protections. The laws applicable are federal antidiscrimination laws, federal health and safety laws, state laws and employer firing practices related to the employment-at-will doctrine. In relation to the questions below, write a four to six (4-6) page paper in which you: 1. Analyze, identify, and explain recent legislation that helps to protect employees from discrimination in the workplace. Provide at least two recent federal legislative protections/laws. Provide some insight when the federal legislation conflicts with the state. (Please note, the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act is not an acceptable example for this question)2. Explain the employment-at-will (EAW) doctrine and ALL possible exceptions to the doctrine. Look at the scenarios below and determine whether the decision to fire the employee is a smart one. Identify why or why not and determine all the possible exceptions per the EAW doctrine that are, might be, or could be applicable if the employee sues for wrongful termination. Scenarios:Jason, a department supervisor, requests approval to fire his secretary, Joann. Joann is a devout Christian and was putting out Right to Life flyers in the employee break room. Joann was also taking a lot of time to pray in the workplace during some of the busiest times of day. Jason wants to fire Joann. Can Joann sue for wrongful termination and prevail? Jamal, a manager, started a blog on the company website for employee grievances. He noticed a worker was protesting that no employees had gotten a raise in the last year and that the CEO was making a lot of money. Jamal reprimanded the worker and the next day, the employee posted a sign-up sheet on the blog to start a union. Jamal threatened to the fire the employee and, when the employee did not show up for work for a week, fired him. Can the employee sue for wrongful termination and prevail? Lori, head of Accounting, refused to sign Brians parental leave request. Brian is seeking 12 weeks of paid leave to care for his newborn son and wants to take this time during the most busiest time tax season. Can Brian sue for wrongful termination and prevail?Peter has worked for the company for 1 year. He has a rare form of liver disease and works with chemicals that make his condition worse. Peter does not want to stop working, but his boss is not happy with his performance and wants to let him go. Can Peter sue for wrongful termination and prevail? 3. Determine the law in regard to undocumented workers and whether they are eligible for state workers compensation in the United States. Advocate for or against this practice and substantiate your response with research to support your position. How does the state law conflict with federal immigration law? Support your response.4. List the pros and cons about the ways the discussed databases have been used.
Assignment Question: List the pros and cons about the ways the discussed databases have been used. Your responses should show that you’ve thought about your classmates’ initial posts. Your responses should continue the conversation, offer new ideas, and ask questions if something doesn’t make sense, if necessary.Peer Post # 1Hello everyone, my name is Karina. Im studying for a BS in computer science with a concentration in software engineering. I’m from Puerto Rico, and have also lived in New York and Miami. Ive been teaching English in Japan for the last 9 years, but I want to start a career as a software or web developer. I hope this course will help me to learn about databases and how to design and implement them effectively so I can create great software or websites. Many years ago, I used to work at a library and often used a database to look for patrons, lend books out to them, see what books they were currently borrowing, what books they ordered or had on hold, if they had any overdue books. Of course, I also used the database of books themselves to look for books by author, title, genre, etc., and their location in the library or if they were in other library branches. It made our job easier, since we could find the information we needed quickly with the scan of a barcode or typing in the search box. More recently, I’d been studying web development and created a website with a database using MongoDB. The idea was that users could curate a list of their favorite restaurants (including information like address, kind of food, any extra comments), then the website would randomly suggest a restaurant from that database when users were hungry but couldn’t decide on a place to eat. To make a diagram of a database, we need to know what kind of information will be stored in the database, how it is broken up and (if it’s a relational database) the relationships and connections between them. We must also think about who will be using the database and why.Peer Post # 2My name is Dante, and I am super excited to start learning about databases and how to navigate them. I am currently pursuing my bachelor’s degree in cyber security in hopes of becoming a penetrator tester someday. I am from Colorado Springs, Colorado, and live with my beautiful wife and our 4 kids. I chose the cyber security field because I have always had an interest in computers and how they work and thought how cool it would be to understand the security part of it. I am not entirely sure if this would be considered as using a database, however, the computer that I am currently using to attend school at one time would not boot up past the manufacturer screen because I had uploaded driver updates to my graphics card that wasnt designed for mine specifically. When I did get lucky enough to get to my desktop it would immediately crash. I had spent countless hours attempting to wipe the computer clean and start fresh and nothing would work. So eventually I came across instructions online that required me to use the command prompt and enter in queries very similar to the ones I have read about in chapter one. They had to be identical and were case sensitive and if I missed one character, I received an error. I ultimately was able to reset my computer back to the factory settings and it has worked perfectly fine since. At the time I was afraid that I would spend as much money as I did for my computer not to work. Information that I would need to make a diagram of a database could vary depending on what information is being tracked. First and foremost, you would need knowledge of how to insert the data as well as how to navigate within the database. You also need to know how to create the tables within the database. Other information that would be needed would be things such as names, ID numbers, population sizes, pricing, and etc.
Discuss the challenges inherent in preventing mass shootings in schools, the workplace, and the general public. Are there any proven strategies to help control this type of violence?
Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read Chapters 9 and 10 from the textbook. Additionally, read the US Department of Justice and US Department of Education report, Indicators of School Crime and Safety: 2019Links to an external site.. As you learn in the readings, media reports of school crime tend to create misconceptions of a danger that is actually quite small for the overwhelming majority of school users. In fact, given the number of students, teachers, and other personnel in schools on any given day, it is quite astounding how few violent episodes there are. After reading the report, please address each of the following:
What statistic in the report surprised you about school crime and safety? Please refer to a specific statistic found on the site and cite it properly. Tell us why this statistic surprised you, confirmed your belief, etc.
In 81% of violent, targeted school attacks, at least one person knew someone was conceiving of or planning an attack. In most cases, no one came forward with this information. Why might someone hesitate to come forward?
What are some significant differences between school shootings and mass shootings in the general population (for example, the Colorado movie theatre shooting or the Orlando nightclub shooting)?
Discuss the challenges inherent in preventing mass shootings in schools, the workplace, and the general public. Are there any proven strategies to help control this type of violence?
What ideological differences might interfere with making meaningful criminal justice reform to prevent mass shootings?
What are some other barriers to criminal justice reform
Describe the pathology ans describe what is considered normal anatomy for your particular pathophysiology.
This is a separate page by itself, with the following information centered in the middle of the page: course title, paper title, students name, instructors name, and date.
Description of Pathology:
Start the paper on a new page.
In this section, you will describe the pathology (statistics about it, background information, etc.). Give as much information as you can about it but be sure it is relevant information and not just filler. It should be a comprehensive introductory section of the condition in one to two paragraphs.
Normal anatomy of the major body system affected: In this section, you will describe what is considered normal anatomy for your particular pathophysiology. For example, if you are discussing a disease related to the brain, explain what is normal for the brain from an anatomical standpoint. You should show comprehensive knowledge of the fundamental concepts and communicate information using scientific vocabulary. There should be little to no discussion of the condition itself in this section.
Normal physiology of the major body system affected: In this section, you will be discussing physiology. Keep in mind that when describing physiology, it isnt enough to merely provide a list of functions of the body system (Ex: Neurons send signals throughout the body), instead, you need to be able to describe how it does it. The how is the physiology. There should be little to no discussion of the condition itself in this section
Mechanism of Pathophysiology: This section is likely going to be the most in-depth and longest section. In this section, you will explain your particular pathophysiology from a scientific standpoint. In the previous two sections, you explained what is considered normal, in this section, you should describe what the pathophysiology is doing that is causing these issues, how the normal anatomy & physiology is affected/different in a person with your condition. You should show a thorough understanding of the anatomical and physiological changes contributing to the disease. Some good keywords to search for when doing your research might be “Pathology of __________, Pathophysiology of __________.”
Prevention: In this section, you will explain how your pathophysiology could be prevented. This should outline possible prevention protocols, or clearly indicate if none is available based on the current scientific literature.
Treatment: In this section, you will explain how your pathophysiology is commonly treated. Provide possible treatment protocols for the condition based on current scientific literature. Be sure to bring in nursing relevant information and how you might be involved in the treatment of the condition.
Conclusion: Finally you should summarize your findings. All good research papers should include a conclusion where you wrap up and summarize all of the important points made in your paper.
References:
As with the Title page, this should be a separate page by itself.
All references should be included in correct and complete APA format.
All references must be cited appropriately in the paper using APA-style in-text citations.
A minimum of three reputable sources are required for this assignment.
Requirements for Topic, Length, & Submission
The length requirement for this paper is between 4-6 full pages of content, double-spaced – this does not include the Title page and the Reference page (both on separate pages) that do not contribute to page count. Use of images/tables/diagrams will not count for total page number either.
Students will be assigned individual topics related to physiology and pathological conditions of physiological systems by their instructor. You must write your paper based on your assigned topic.
Your paper must be submitted as a PDF (.pdf) or Word document (.doc or .docx). These are the only file types that will be accepted.

Is Genome Privacy (restricting access to an individuals private genomic data) a potential issue, and if so, how?
Choose one of the provided topics (see list below, a-e) and write a research paperSelect one of the following 5 topics for your assignment: Vaccines. Your friend is worried about the many vaccines that his newborn son is scheduled to receive and asks you for advice since you are taking a biology course. Start with an explanation of how vaccines work. Briefly contrast the traditional methods used to create vaccines with more recently used biotechnology techniques, including the COVID-19 mRNA vaccines. Explain how the mRNA vaccines work based on your knowledge of the Central Dogma of Molecular Biology. What are some of the diseases that infants and children in the US are routinely vaccinated against? How have vaccinations impacted the frequency of these diseases over the past 100 years? Why are some people worried about giving their children vaccines? Why do some people believe that the MMR vaccine can cause autism? Is there scientific evidence to support these concerns? Conclude with advice to your friend in regard to getting the recommended vaccines based on what you learned from reliable information sources. Personal Genomics. Services like 23andMe and Ancestry have made it possible even popular for the average person to obtain in-depth information about their genome, including details like food allergies, drug sensitivities, and disease risks. There are even add-on sites that will take this information and generate elaborate reports, such as Promethease. Describe how this data is obtained, and what it actually includes. Start your explanation with a basic description of DNA and how genes control our traits (the Central Dogma). Use information from the course readings, at least one service provider (e.g., 23&Me, Ancestry), and additional information resources. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this easy, rapid, and affordable access to genomic data? What are the social implications, in terms of benefits and risks? Is Genome Privacy (restricting access to an individuals private genomic data) a potential issue, and if so, how? If you, or someone you know, have had your own genome analyzed, discuss the thought process that led you (or them) to do so, and share how you felt when you found your results. If you haven’t, discuss why or why you would not want to have this information. Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR) has been the most recent breakthrough discovery in bioengineering that enables scientists to edit DNA. Because you have studied biology in this course, you have volunteered at your nieces Middle School Science Club to monitor a student debate about CRISPR. The students will be watching the following video before the discussion: Bioprinting. Your father has been on a waitlist for a new kidney for several years, but no match has been found. You hear about bioprinting on the news and decide to do some research so you can tell him about it. Start with an explanation of what bioprinting is, and how the process works. Relate it to what you have learned about cells, tissues, and organs. What are the benefits of bioprinting? What are the current challenges? What are stem cells and how can they be used for bioprinting? What is bioink and how is it used for bioprinting? Include a least two examples of current research in this field, and conclude with predictions for the future. Finally, do you believe that your father could benefit from this technology in his lifetime? Human-caused global climate change is the biggest environmental challenge we are faced with today. Your aunt is a climate skeptic and you have decided to use your understanding of science to explain to her why the earths climate is changing, describe the major biological effects of climate change, and discuss how technology can be a solution to this problem. You should start with a brief description of the greenhouse effect and how carbon dioxide is a natural part of the carbon cycle. Then explain how our use of fossil fuels is disrupting the carbon cycle and enhancing the greenhouse effect. You may want to look ahead to the Week 7 readings for this information. What are the major ecological effects associated with climate change? What are the human health concerns associated with climate change? Describe at least one example of each. And finally, what can we do to reduce our impact on the climate through technological innovation? Include a description of a minimum of two technological solutions
The United States Government is striving to have a secure border under the present administration. What would be the consequences/impact to the United States if the border was suddenly made less open and more secure?
Discussion Questions: The United States Government is striving to have a “secure” border under the present administration. What would be the consequences/impact to the United States if the border was suddenly made less open and more “secure”? This is a strategic security question and not a political one. What is the role of the Department of Defense in border and coastal security? What is the DOD’s relationship with the Department of Homeland Security as it pertains to border security? Why was there such an increased?
1. By focusing on strategic security rather than politics we can objectively analyze the potential outcomes for the United States in terms of national security. Strengthening border control measures like improved surveillance, enhanced technology, and additional personnel could help prevent unauthorized entries and potential threats. Effectively managing and securing the southern border the US could mitigate risks related to drug tracking, terrorism concerns and other crimes.
The Department of Defense (DOD) plays a large role in ensuring the security of the borders and coastal areas. The DODs role in border security is primarily focused on supporting law enforcement and enhancing situational awareness along the southern border. In certain instances, the DOD can provide resources and technology to assist in border control efforts, like when National Guard personnel are deployed along the border. The efforts can be described as surveillance, intelligence sharing, logistical support, and infrastructure enhancement. The personnel from the National Guard are deployed in only support roles with the goal of enhancing interagency cooperation.
The DOD and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have a significant relationship when it comes to border security. The DOD and DHS collaborate very closely when it comes to border security to enhance the overall effectiveness of border control operations. DHS runs point for ensuring the borders are secure but relies on DOD assets for various intelligence and support. There are several factors that have contributed to the increased cooperation between the DHS and DOD. One being the evolving landscape of current threats. The nature of the newest threats of transnational organized crime, drug trafficking, and potential terrorist activity has necessitated a more of a robust and collaborative approach. Another factor is the resources available from the DOD. The DOD possesses large amounts of technology and a large amount of personnel that can be thrown at the southern border to assist the DHS in border security, which in turn generates a more effective border control effort.
2. If the United States (US) were to suddenly close its border, there could be significant implications and impacts. Even though it may help limit drug trafficking and illegal immigration to the country, it could also hinder legitimate travel and trade, which can have a “severe” impact on diplomatic and economic relations between the United States and its neighbors and allies.
The flow of workers and goods across national borders is a major profit center for “majority” firms in the U.S. The U.S. population “benefits” from lower production costs due to the free trade of goods in and out of the country. About 30% of the U.S. gross domestic product is derived from exports and imports (Are Trade Agreements Good for Americans? – Room for Debate – NYTimes.com, 2016). It will take longer for things to travel from outside the US into the US if border regulations are altered, and labor will not be as readily accessible. Due to the high operating costs, this will result in a situation where US enterprises will suffer.
Department of Defense (DOD) maintains security at the country’s borders and along its coastline. To defend the nation’s ports of entry and borders, DOD is responsible for many tasks linked to border security, including subscribing to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Regarding border security, the DHS and DOD work together hand in hand to secure the nation. The DOD assists DHS as needed and backs its efforts through the continuous sharing of information. In turn, DHS collaborates closely with the US Department of Defense to identify and prioritize risks to border security as well as to develop and put into action prevention measures.
Some elements, including the changing nature of threats to national security, or the expansion of smuggling and trafficking networks, as well as the rise of transnational criminal organizations well increase the role of the DOD. Consequently, the US government has acknowledged the need for a more thorough and integrated strategy to border and coastal security, involving the coordinated efforts of numerous departments, including the DHS and DOD.
Identify an area of interest, search the online library databases, and carefully acquire and read 10-13 different peer-reviewed articles relating to this topic.
Identify an area of interest, search the online library databases, and carefully acquire and read 10-13 different peer-reviewed articles relating to this topic. Select 10 or more peer-reviewed articles related to your topic to create article notes. Most of the articles should be relatively recent (last 10 years). You will create one or more notes for each citation.Notes must include a citation for each article. Be careful to only cite sources of original research, and do not reference information that is presented in an authors literature review. (If you read information in a literature review that you would like to include, look up the citation and find the original research.) Your notes on an article can be as brief as a single sentence. Write originally authored sentences as if those sentences were in some future paragraph.Organize those sentences (what I call citable units) topically as you create them.Add a reference citation for every unique source after you have written the sentence. If a potential lit review outline begins to emerge in your mind, feel free to organize your article notes by the main headings.Include a full reference section at the end of the document.DON’T:Do not write direct quotes. All citable units should be in your original words. This will ensure that you always are writing original work.Do not cite the literature review of an article. Only cite results and discussion sections of an article. Go to the original sources if you find an assertion in the lit review of an article that is interesting.Do not use an annotated bibliography approach. This assignment is like converting an annotated bibliography into a literature review outline with the citable units from pertinent sources underneath each heading. Its a first step to writing a full literature review chapter.
