Craft a brief paper (between 900 and 1200 words) analyzing the relationships between science, technology, and society in influencing and driving sustainable innovation or practice in your topic
Instructions
Select one of the topics of the module (food, water or the built environment). Narrow your topic appropriately for a brief paper. For example, discuss farming practices in the US or seafood harvesting instead of all global food production.
Craft a brief paper (between 900 and 1200 words) analyzing the relationships between science, technology, and society in influencing and driving sustainable innovation or practice in your topic. Here is an example.
Topic and Scope: Sustainable seafood. The science of ocean ecology informs a sustainable seafood framework and understanding. Society’s interests in health and environmentalism drive the market for sustainable seafood. Because there is a market, innovations arise in seafood harvesting (net technology, fishing technology, etc.) and processing (imitation crab, etc.). The paper has a very specific format as described below:
Paragraph 1. Introduce the topic and scope, and three increasingly sustainable technologies implemented over time in the topic. Refer to and describe Figure 1.
Figure 1. Diagrams or photos showing the three technologies.
Paragraph 2. Describe how historical, political, scientific, and/or social elements influenced the implementation and adoption and the abandoning of the technologies. Refer to Figure 2.
Figure 2. A time line of technology adoption, abandonment and key historical, political, scientific, and/or social elements
Paragraph 3. Describe how economic considerations influenced the technology adoption and abandonment
Paragraph 4. Briefly, conclude with your analysis of the most influential drivers of the progression of sustainable technologies.
