ENG 102 WNC Horror Movies Project

Using a variety of academic articles, popular culture or media sources, and films, you will support an original thesis. Over the course of the second half of the semester, you will develop your own research question that incorporates the themes of the class (horror, film, social issues, and how society is reflected in media) and research your chosen topic. After your research you will craft a thesis that is the response to your research question. For example, if your question is Do horror films make us numb to real world violence? your thesis might be something like this while many people watch horror and do not become violent or numb to violence, there are many cases in which films have inspired real world violence. Your thesis should be supported by your research. For this essay you need the following sources:Assignment Components:Format:Standard MLA 19th editionPage Requirement:12-15 pagesAnnotated Bibliography Assignment:For each source you find during your research you will do an annotated entry for on your works cited page. You will turn your works cited page in two weeks prior to the final date of class. The entries will all be combined, and follow proper MLA format (alphabetical). Each entry will start with the citation, the be followed by two distinct paragraphs: a paragraph of summary, and a paragraph of how you intend to use the material. All entries need all 3 of these elements (citation, summary, intended use).Format:Standard MLA 19th editionPage Requirements:Each individual entry should be between ½ page to a full page. You should have a minimum of 9 sources. If you have more than 10 sources, omit entries for the films, and focus on the academic sources first. The overall product should be between 9-12 pages.Presentation Assignment:Each student will present their final research for consideration to the class. The presentation should begin with their research question: how did they decide what to research? What did the research process look like? The presentation should highlight the most important sources found, and should feature brief analysis of a film that someone would find if they read the finished essay. The presentation should demonstrate scope of the essay, and a deeper understanding of the material than a layperson. A visual component is required (video, poster, handout, PowerPoint, etc). At the end of the presentation, students will have the opportunity to ask questions.Format:In person presentation. Business casual attire preferred.
