In most states there is a provision for early release into a halfway house or a part of the
community bases corrections format. The concept of Community Based Corrections is
to ensure that inmate released can successfully cope in society and adapt to their new
environment. Based on this concept, to what extent should inmates receive an “early
release”, and is it ethically reasonable to the victim and the neighborhood they are sent
to reside?

• Identify what types of crimes should benefit from these programs and which ones
should not.
o List 4 crimes that should and 4 crimes that shouldn’t. Explain why.
