Behavioral Observations

Assignment Description:  You will need to go to a licensed child care facility or an elementary school setting and observe child behavior.  The length of your observation is dependent on what you observe.  The time should be a minimum of 30 minutes.  Your observation needs to include some type of conflict and the resolution of the conflict.  You will submit to me three items:  Typed Running Record (at least 30 minutes in length), written review of your observation – include items from rubric, copy of the rubric.

Assignment Rubric:

Behavioral Observation – Attach this rubric to your assignment Students will complete two observations of a young child (age 2-7) engaged in a conflict situation (25 points each observation).  Both the handwritten running record completed at the time of the observation as well as a typed version of the running record must be included to receive credit for this assignment.   Observations without both versions of the running record will earn 0 points.

17 points Evaluation and Reflection of the observation: (17 pts. total) Student identifies the method of intervention utilized (1 point).Student discusses the seven key guidance practices as they are related to the observation.
