The quantity of heat loss or gain along the pipeline.
If the inlet pressure of natural gas flowing in a 20 km export pipeline is 200 kPa, its temperature is 50oC and flowing at a velocity of 15 m/s. If the pipeline has a constant cross-sectional area of 0.04 m2 and is isobarically exposed to heat flow along the entire surface of the pipe. Assume the velocity of the natural gas at the outlet to be 18 m/s. What would be the quantity of heat loss or gain along the pipeline. As a design Engineer, what measure would you take to minimise the heat loss/gain.
