1_ Use the Social Constructionist theory of gender, work, and the family to analyze the documentary film Maid in America. Draw on the readings by Hondagneu Sotelo (on Canvas) to analyze what is happening in the lives of the undocumented immigrant domestic workers AND the families for whom they work. Identity the key sociological concepts and issues at play, keeping in mind the core issues of difference, inequality, and power. How is domestic work fundamentally gendered? Why are undocumented immigrant women the perfect people to perform domestic work for US families, why do they come to the US to do this work? Who benefits from this arrangement? How could the situation of immigrant domestic workers be improved, what needs to happen? Be sure to explain and apply key concepts from Hondagneu Sotelo.
