Using statistical analysis investigate whether the differences observed between the CAD group and the control group for each of the different patient groups, shown above, are statistically significant.
Q3. 2304 patients were recruited to a study to investigate whether the angiotensinogen M235T polymorphism is associated with the presence of coronary artery disease (CAD) in the Taiwanese population. 1448 patients were in the CAD group and 856 in the control group. For the patients recruited to the study, other factors, such as gender, presence of diabetes, hypertension, and hypercholesterolemia, and whether the participants were smokers or alcohol drinkers were also recorded. See Table below:
CAD group Control Total Male 1100 540 1640 Female 348 316 664 With diabetes 440 136 576 Without diabetes 1008 720 1728 With hypertension 752 336 1088 Without hypertension 696 520 1216 With hypercholesterolemia 193 96 289 Without hypercholesterolemia 1255 760 2015 Current smoker 699 304 1003 Current non-smoker 749 552 1301 Current alcohol drinker 311 212 523 Non-alcohol drinker 1137 644 1781
(a) Using statistical analysis investigate whether the differences observed between the CAD group and the control group for each of the different patient groups, shown above, are statistically significant.
(b) Results of the genotype frequencies of the angiotensinogen M235T polymorphism in the CAD group and control group are shown in the table below:
MM MT TT CAD group 48 756 644 Control group 32 424 400
What can be concluded about the frequencies of the angiotensinogen M235T polymorphism and the presence of coronary artery disease in the Taiwanese population?
