What information would you utilize and why would you use it?

Imagine that President Biden and Kamala Harris has contacted you because they know you are in a Criminology course. They want you to do a presentation in front of the presidential cabinet, and it is your job to explain to them what are the problems facing the Criminal Justice System, the history of the Criminal Justice System, and how Racism, Institutional Discrimination and Social Injustice affect it, and society in general. You need to help them understand why sociology matters.

They want to put a panel together to understand anything that hinders social justice, economic justice, racial justice, gender justice, legal justice and need your sociological expertise. Use the information in this class to explain to them about what you have learned about the Criminal Justice System focusing on Michelle Alexander’s book, The New Jim Crow. What information would you utilize and why would you use it? Also use Chapter 12, Political Crime and Terrorism, and help the presidential cabinet understand how this chapter further illustrates how this society is in need of reform.

How will this help them understand what has been hidden and why a paradigm shift is needed? If the Presidential Cabinet could give you an unlimited supply of money, racial conscious people to work with, and any resources you needed and asked you to devise a plan that could clean up the Criminal Justice System and its aftermath, what would you do? How would you use your resources and money to accomplish this?

Note: You can also make references to any films and other books, but Michelle Alexander’s book should be used the most. You must use information from each chapter. When you reference Alexander state what chapter you are getting the information from. (For instance you can say in chapter 1 Alexander makes this argument…….)
