PURPOSE: To summarize and provide rhetorical analysis of one fallacious argument of your choosing, using other
texts that you have researched on your own as reference, in an effort to convince your audience that the
argument is flawed
TASK: Write 1400 to 1600-word rhetorical analysis paper in the MLA style (double-spaced, 12-point font, 1- inch margins, with integrated citations and a Works Cited page) in which you summarize an argument you have researched yourself before analyzing the fallacious rhetoric it employs, why it is or isn’t effective, and whether it is dishonest, poorly reasoned, or both. Remember that rhetorical analysis includes an examination of the truth (objective, subjective, moral, and so on), value (social, cultural, political, and so on), and efficacy (logos, ethos, pathos, or kairos) of an argument – and keep in mind that an argument can be dishonest or wrong and still highly effective. Use the information in Chapters 1 through 3 of Writing Logically, Thinking Critically as a reference for how to approach this paper, as well as the Quick Guide on pages 203 – 209. You must cite 2-3
outside sources to support your analysis, such as those found via the Grossmont College Library Gateway to
Research. Make sure to also include them on your Works Cited page at the end of your paper.
