Explain the meaning of epidemiology and epidemiological trends
• The meaning of epidemiology
• The meaning of epidemiological trends
• The purposes of epidemiology
• The stages of an epidemiological investigation
• Research methods in epidemiology
• Recent research in epidemiology
• Implications for healthcare professionals
The meaning of epidemiological trends
Epidemiological trends refers to the anticipated number of new people (incidence) who will be diagnosed with a given health problem or disease, and the number of people with an existing diagnosis of the given health problem or disease (prevalence).
The purposes of epidemiology
This section will provide a vocabulary and central concepts to describe the pattern of health and disease in a population and its changes over time. You will need to explain how the causes, risk factors and any contributing or predisposing conditions influence disease, and how these provide the
basis for interventions directed at safeguarding and promoting health, and preventing or overcoming disease and its consequences.
The stages of epidemiological investigation
The stages of epidemiological investigation requires an explanation of diagnosis, investigation, experiment, analysis, intervention, decision making and monitoring. A specific example of a given disease would allow you to show how these stages occurred and their outcomes.
Research methods in epidemiology
This section is best tackled by creating a series of tables.
The first table could compare THREE different types of epidemiological study e.g prospective studies, retrospective case studies, cross sectional studies.
Type of study Prospective studies Retrospective studies Cross sectional studies Key features/best used for?
Strengths
Weaknesses
Then compare TWO different types of data collection methods e.g interviews, questionnaires, measurement, reporting, and link them to the types of studies.
Data collection
Strengths
Weaknesses
Best used in which type of study?
You will need to explain THREE different sampling techniques e.g random sampling, multi-stage sampling, systematic sampling, purposive sampling, stratification, paired sampling, sampling with and without replacement.
Sampling techniques Technique 1 Technique 2 Technique 3
Procedure
Best used in which type of study
Recent research in epidemiology
Identify one recent epidemiological study (last 5 years) and evaluate it (strengths and weaknesses).
You could investigate how data was collected, how large the sample was, and the appropriateness of the type of study for the issue.
Implications for healthcare professionals
Finally, you will refer to your chosen recent study above, and summarise the implications for healthcare professionals e.g should they expect a rise or reduction in cases, how should they prepare.
1. Understand the meaning and purpose of epidemiology
Explain the meaning of epidemiology and epidemiological trends
Summarise the different purposes of epidemiology
2. Understand the epidemiological approach to understanding disease problems. Explain the stages followed in epidemiological investigations.
Compare THREE different types of epidemiological study and TWO methods of obtaining data
Distinguish between THREE different sampling techniques in epidemiological studies
3. Know about epidemiological trends, news and research. Evaluate ONE recent epidemiological study and summarise the implications for healthcare professionals
How Corrupt influences on the Romanovs, the ruling family of Russia, led to ultimate, untimely downfall of the Russian Empire.
Thesis Statement: Corrupt influences on the Romanovs, the ruling family of Russia, led to ultimate, untimely downfall of the Russian Empire.
Proposal:
The contents of this paper will attempt to prove that corruption of the Imperial family led to the untimely end of the centuries-long rule of the Romanov family in Russia. Corrupt influences took many shapes and forms over the course of the Romanov rule. Several of these affects will be discussed in an essay style paper which will provide scholarly research and data to endorse all insights made and conclusions drawn.
While not a complete and in-depth look into the Romanov family history or the fall of the Russian Empire, it is important to discuss the structure and importance of the last imperial dynasty to rule Russia. Though this paper will focus on the termination of this monarchy, understanding the long past
behind the fall will lend greater depth and texture to the conversation of this paper.
The Romanov family came to power in 1613 and maintained rule over Russia for over three centuries.
From the beginning of their reign until the end in 1917, 18 members of the family held the throne. Each had important contributions and weaknesses, but for the sake of brevity, only some of the most critical players will be highlighted in the forthcoming paper.
During the tenure of Czar Nicholas II, the last emperor, much unrest occurred among the people. As a weak and indecisive leader, he had difficulty portraying competence before his subjects and by the leaders of other countries. Grigori Rasputin heavily influenced Nicholas II’s wife, Alexandra. He was a Russian mystic whose powerful “readings” infuriated many.
Government corruption was also widespread under Nicholas II and as a consequence, there was severe economic fallout. In addition, an already struggling Russian economy was further impacted by events surrounding World War I.

What is the effect of benefits and compensation plans on the overall performance of the employees?
Background of the Case Study
This case study is of BOX, a cloud storage technology company optimized for file sharing and collaboration. The company was founded by a student at the University of Southern California and his high school friend. The organization started with less than ten employees, but it grew to over 1000 employees ten years later. Box organization derives satisfaction from self-starters and are determined to grow their careers, and through it makes a positive impact in the company, the company helps create future entrepreneurs.
To entice and maintain the best employees’ companies offer a package in incentives, bonuses, or other benefits such as health insurance, yearly salary increases, and paid vacation, among others. The outcome of compensation on productivity varies from company to company. Armstrong (2008) argued that lack of compensation could cause demotivation in employees, and its provision guarantees various permanent factors that might lead to evaluation of benefits and compensation package. This includes; supply and demand, cost of living, and personal qualifications, competitive determinants.
Supply and Demand
There are certain positions with very few people with the qualifications needs a company may decide to offer a higher package to attract candidates.
Cost of Leaving
Life in urban areas is more expensive than in rural areas, and hence compensation package should match that.
Personal Qualification
An employee with more experience will earn more than the one with less experience
Competitive Determinant
It is crucial to analyze to find out how much people in similar positions are earning.
Problem Statement
It was unclear how Box company’s benefits and compensation package was ranked in the labor market. A poor benefit and compensation package could make it difficult for a company to attract and retain competent employees (Idris, Adi, Soetjipto, & Supriyanto, 2020, p. 735). It is proven that high pay can increase the number of qualified applicants who are likely to take the job offer (Reddy & Santosh, 2021, pp. 1769-1776). The company benefits and compensation package included the salary/wages, health and life insurance, retirement benefits, Incentives, bonuses, overtime, vacation time, or salary increment.
Purpose of the Case study
The perception analysis conducted gives insights into how an effective compensation plan can be devoted to suit the ever-rapid changing labor market dynamics. The study was conducted as a case study, and it is essential to understand how various compensation strategies influence the performance of the employees in the organization (Reddy & Santosh, 2021, pp. 1769-1776). This was analyzed by getting opinions from the internal and external employees.
The case study analyzed other organizations’ benefits and compensation packages to understand better how effective their strategies are and determine how to fairly and appropriately reward employees for their work. Evidence has that similar companies may adopt different compensation plans, of which some may be effective than others (Idris et al., 2020, p. 735). The study also seemed to identify gaps in the current benefit and compensation plan, enabling the company to focus on creating strategies that will effectively bridge those identified gaps.
The case study analysis seemed to address the below aspects n the organization.
a) What is the effect of benefits and compensation plans on the overall performance of the employees?
b) What are the critical issues concerning the organization’s current benefits and compensation plan that the management should address?
c) What are the critical insights into the current benefits and compensation plan position compared to another similar organization’s compensation plan?
d) What are the gaps identified in the current benefits and compensation plan in the organization?
An Analysis of Benefits and Compensation Plan at Box Company
As described by Hoque, Awang, Siddiqui, and Sabiu (2018, pp. 1937-1937), compensation is the money that employers give employees in return for work and forms a critical part of the relationship between the company and the employee. Box, an organization based in California, adopts a culture that nurtures self-starter’s employees and assists them to grow their careers fatherland hence making a significant impact. The company is diversified and inclusive in employee profile and demographics (Viswanathan et al., 2018, pp. 368-381). Like other otherizations, Box has different levels of benefit and compensation for their employees, including salary and wage, Health insurance play, salary increment, and incentives.
Salary and Wage
Wage and salary are the compensation made to employees for the work done, and the work could be either be physical or mental (Hoque et al., 2018, pp. 1937-1937). Wages and salaries always include other benefits like health insurance, sick leaves, holiday leave, and pensions, among others. Additionally, compensation can also be paid in bonuses, commissions, or salary increments, which depend on group or individual performance. In Box organization, the employees are entitled to a monthly salary, and it varies according to job descriptionist also has a provision of a reward of annual salary increment to the best performing staff, the staff was able to be identified through an introduced formulaic systematized performance system where employees are evaluated (Reddy & Santosh, 2021, pp. 1769-1776). Box also offers annual bonuses to its senior directors; the other staffs’ bonuses were congregated to form part of the salary.
Recruitment and Compensation
Compensation may serve several purposes helping in recruitment, job performance, and job satisfaction. Benefits and Compensation plans can be used to; hire and maintain qualified employees and motivate staff, leading to employee job satisfaction and reducing employee turnover (Sidabutar, Syah, & Anindita, 2020, pp. 1-5).
A company may feel the need to adjust the benefits and compensation plan depending on the business needs or available resources, like the case of Box company, during the initial start of the company. The employees did not focus on the compensation aspect of the job. They were focused on building the business and is as much as the compensation was low during that time, they trusted that the equity would pay off someday. The company grew, and their compensation shifted to a larger scale since the company had expanded and its returns had increased.
Haring and retention of competent, qualified employees is a vision that is shared but lots of organizations. However, the benefit and the compensation package might sometimes determine the pool of applicants attracted to the job. During the struggling phase of Box company, they had a problem attracting a comment employee in engineering, and this affected the company’s ability to meet its business goal, this was because, at that time, the organization had no resource to attract the most qualified candidates in the competitive labor market.
Essential Components of a Benefit and Compensation System
At Box Company, the hiring process started with the hiring manager, who developed the job description and gave it to a recruiter. The recruiter would then shortlist qualified candidates and forward resumes to the hiring manager. When a diction has been made, the recruiter will screen the candidate via phone and then interview team members. Everyone would give their feedback through the Box’s Applicant Tracking System (recruitment software) and then meet to analyze the candidate’s performance. If the hiring manager approves the candidate, the recruiter will send an offer approval thread via e-mail to Levee and Smith (Owners), including a compensation package determined by the compensation team. Any organization must have a clear understanding of the various laws and policies of the land tube able to come up with a practical benefit and compensation plan. Different companies make use of similar components like job descriptions and write structures to develop a compensation system.

What individual and organizational factors of HP and its senior leaders led to the intense political behavior?
Assignment Overview
All organizations have internal politics. However, most organizations keep their political battles private and it is rare that the public will know the details about political intrigue within the major corporations. However, Hewlett-Packard (HP) is rare in that its political battles were waged publicly. HP will make for an ideal case study both because of the intense political behavior occurring at the top and because many articles have been written about these political battles.
HP has been through five CEOs since 2005, and each change of CEO has been controversial. The drama started in 2005 when then CEO Carly Fiorina was under attack from several members of HP’s Board of Directors. Some board members even took the dispute public by leaking information to the press. Fiorina fought back by investigating the leaks, but ultimately lost the battle and was ousted as CEO. Her replacement, Patricia Dunn, continued to investigate leaks by the board through the use of private investigators. Even more controversy emerged when it was discovered that the investigators used the method of “pretexting” in order to obtain phone records of board members.
Case Assignment
For this assignment, make sure to first carefully review the background materials regarding the causes of political behavior, types of political behavior, and the ethics of political behavior. Examples of the causes of political behavior include competition for resources, ambiguous organizational goals, lack of trust, and performance factors. Examples of types of political behavior include blaming others, selectively distributing information, managing impressions, and forming coalitions. Regarding ethics, consider the three main factors:
• Does the political action violate individual rights?
• Does it improve the welfare of those involved?
• Does it increase distributive justice?
Review the background materials and do some research on the political dramas at HP. There is a lot written about HP’s many dramas over the years; here are some articles to get you started:
Pearlstein, S. (2011, Sep 25). How HP, Silicon Valley’s darling, became a soap opera. The Washington Post
Veverka, M. (2011). The soap opera at HP continues. Barron’s, 91(39), 25.
Kessler, M. (2006, Sep 08). Controversial HP probe started under Fiorina; stock falls as board continues public feud. USA Today [ProQuest]
Harwell, D. & Paquette, D. (2015, Sep 27). Fiorina’s divisive legacy. Washington Post. [EBSCOhost]
Once you have finished reviewing the background materials and have completed your research on HP’s internal politics, write a 4- to 5-page paper addressing the following issues:
1. What individual and organizational factors of HP and its senior leaders led to the intense political behavior? Refer to some of the specific factors discussed on pages 877-883 of Robbins (1997) that you think apply the most to HP in this situation.
2. What types of political behaviors did HP’s board members and CEOs exhibit? Be specific and use the types of political behaviors discussed in pages 297-301 of Luthans et al. (2015).
3. Were the leaks to the press by members of the board ethical? Was the investigation by Patricia Dunn into the links ethical? Use the ethical framework discussed on pages 896-898 of Robbins (1997) to guide your answer.
