undertake a critical analysis of the accountability, legal and ethical issues facing you as a future prescriber in a patient prescribing scenario in your area of practice.

Portfolio – Element 1 Law, Accountability and Ethics Assignment
Level 3 – Additional Guidance
The assessment requires you to undertake a critical analysis of the accountability, legal and ethical issues
facing you as a future prescriber in a patient prescribing scenario in your area of practice. All three
elements should be included. The maximum word count allowed is 1,500 words.
The scenario you choose will be one of your own choice but here are some common examples:
1. A patient came into the consultation with a piece of paper from the internet. He asked the doctor to
prescribe the drug named on the paper. As a future prescriber I may face a similar situation. The purpose
of my assignment is to explore the issues of law, accountability and ethics raised by this situation.
2. After assessment of a patient with a long term condition you decide a prescription for ‘anticipatory
medicines’ are required. As a future prescriber this situation may occur. During the assignment I will
explore the law, accountability and ethics of prescribing anticipatory medicines.
3. Once qualified I will be prescribing for children. The cBNF states that most medicines prescribed for
children are prescribed unlicensed or out of license. As a future prescriber, I focus my writing on the law,
accountability and ethics of prescribing unlicensed or out of license medicines for children.
4. In my role I will be expected to prescribe repeat medicines for patients in the practice. I will explore the
law, accountability and ethics of prescribing in this situation.”
5. During my supervision a non medical prescriber was asked by a colleague to prescribe on her behalf. I
could be asked to do the same once qualified. I will explore the issues of law, accountability and ethics
raised by prescribing on behalf of others.
6. My patient has symptoms managed by drug therapy but does not adhere to the treatment plan. There
are discussions amongst the team; with colleagues querying ‘why clinicians should continue to prescribe
this expensive drug when it is not being taken?’ will explore the issues of law, accountability and ethics
raised by this scenario.”
7. I work in a practice area where the same person may be required to both prescribe and administer the
medicine. This is a situation I may also find myself in. I therefore intend to explore the law, accountability
and ethics of being a prescriber in this situation.”
8. During supervision I observed prescribing for patients for whom English is not their first language. This
presented challenges for the prescriber and is a situation I am likely to face as a future prescriber. I will
explore the law, accountability and ethics of prescribing in this situation.
Marking
Students must achieve a pass mark of 40%.
Critical Analysis
• Students work is marked against the school assessment criteria for level 3.
• Students are required to critically discuss prescribing in their future area of prescribing practice.
Author: Dianne Bowskill. Last updated October 2020.
• You are required to write in the first person; drawing on published literature from professional
documents, published papers and authoritative textbooks.
• Critical discussion of the law, accountability and ethical issues raised in your area of practice should
be evident.
Students are expected to read widely and refer to appropriate primary and secondary evidence with
reference to up-to-date professional literatures of law, accountability and ethics.
The submission should begin with a very brief description of the prescribing area 2-3 sentences should be
sufficient. Below are examples of the word count and content for each section. The context for the critical
discussion is you as a future prescriber
Introduction
150 words – Brief description of the prescribing area. Provide a rationale for your scenario choice for you
as a future prescriber
Accountability
400 words – Explore areas of accountability in the context of practice. It can be useful here to structure
using the spheres or ‘pillars’ of accountability – Explore each critically; discussing application to your patient
scenario and you as a future prescriber
Law
400 words – You should discuss both criminal and civil law issues raised (or potentially raised) by your
scenario. You must include the legal framework of independent and supplementary prescribing. You are
expected to demonstrate an understanding of this through application of independent and supplementary
prescribing to your prescribing scenario. Think about what is expected of a competent prescriber. Draw on
civil law to critically explore scenarios where things could go wrong. Consider competence and draw on
case law examples such as Bolam and Bolitho, prudent patient etc.
Ethics
400 words – Identify the ethical issues raised by prescribing in your area of practice. It is useful here to use
an ethical framework to structure this discussion. Most students use Beauchamp and Childress – non
maleficence, beneficence, autonomy and justice. Consider patient influences and the cost of prescribing.
Critically discuss each in the context of your prescribing area.
Conclusion
150 words – Avoid saying what you would or would not do. If you get it wrong or there is a potential
contravention of professional or legal standards the work will fail. Draw on the key issues you have
discussed in the three sections in the context of you as a future prescriber.

Specific Assignment Guidance
The aim of this assignment is to allow you to consider how a variety of theoretical ideas, approaches, models and concepts are used in conjunction with each other in practical work with children, young people and families.
Look out in our guest lectures, weeks 7-11, for different underpinning ideas that shape the practice of our guest speakers. For example Ashlee Jacobs from the Raedwald Trust draws on interesting research on trauma and brain development to consider how young people in non-mainstream educational environments might respond to stressful experiences and thus how staff around the child can provide support.
Identify any perspectives, theories or models that are interesting to you, or that you believe complement existing psychodynamic perspectives

General Assignment Guidance
Within your essay you are crafting an argument to respond to the question or statement posed. You need to consider carefully the following:
– Structure: ensure your essay has a clear introduction and conclusion. These sections bookmark your argument and give a clear indication to the reader where you are going and then, coming full circle, where you have been.

– Evidence: to construct an argument you will need to provide evidence for your claims. In this essay these are in the form of references. Please use the APA citation format and draw from both resources provided in the module and those garnered from your own literature searching. You may use non-academic texts if they add to your discussion. However, be wary of non-peer reviewed websites and sources.

– Remit and Coverage: The essay question here asks you to identity two non-psychodynamic perspectives, do not be tempted to include more than this. Remember to balance your word count giving equal time and attention to the two non-psychodynamic perspectives as well as leaving plenty of space for the final task, which is to identify how they support or supplement a psychodynamic way of working.
The term “psychodynamic approach to work with children” is a broad one. You can tackle this in multiple ways. For example, you can identify particular aspects of this general approach, such as attention to childhood experiences and/or unconscious processes. Or you can identify one or two particular psychodynamic/psychoanalytic concepts that work well with the non-psychodynamic theories you’ve chosen; for example containment or transference.

– Plan: Always ensure you construct an essay plan. Whatever format your plan takes, be it bullet points, a mind map or some other style, it is during the reading and planning phase of essay writing when you can organise your thoughts. The result is usually a much more logical and coherent piece of work.

Explain essay is going to be about. Why have you chosen to focus on Last offices?
Tell the reader what the essay is all about, this is a reflective account about how I learnt about Last Offices. And Palliative care
At the start what was your skill and knowledge level…? Had only observed during placement
Explain and define Palliative care and the Last offices (keep brief) and explain when and why they are important
Introduce the Driscoll’s (2007) model of reflection with a rationale for choice and evidence to support this.
Why nurses need to reflect – NMC code.

What?
The focus is on your learning and what you have learnt, how you have learnt it and what else you need to do
Being on palliative ward for the first time how did you feel about this – nervous, excited, worried about seeing patient suffering ? What was difficult? What was easier than expected…? What was the key learning for you from this session?
Reflect
Did you then get an opportunity to observe or practice this in placement? How was that? How did you feel about it? What did you learn from your observations or practice? Did you identify anything that you needed to learn or practice after placement (maybe there was no opportunity to practice this time…?). Reflect on placement practice
You then had a further opportunity to practise on the ward. How was this experience? What did you do well, what needs further practice?
How did you judge your performance? Did you use a SWOT analysis? An OSCE checklist? Lasater’s Clinical rubric?
What did you learn from this process?
So what?
This is where the underpinning theory and evidence goes and may include some of the elements that you have included below:

Explain briefly what the goal aims to achieve; what are the problems that it hopes to solve?

ASSESSMENT TASK 2 Description:
For this assessment you will answer the questions below, related to the SDG goal and example that you have chosen. It is important that your submission is in your own words as it is your understanding that we are assessing.
1. Clearly identify the goal and the example you are writing about.
2. Explain briefly what the goal aims to achieve; what are the problems that it hopes to solve? Use your own words: do not copy from the document.
3. Explain how/why this goal is relevant to your future profession (or ideal job): explain how the situation described in the example could affect the work your profession does and the people you may work with.
4. In one-two paragraphs, summarise the message from the example you chose from the report – describe the current situation globally (does it vary in different countries)?
5. Explain how the situation described in the example affects human dignity in the broader global context. (ie, are there differences in different areas of the world?).
6. Explain how the situation described in the example affects the common good in the broader global context.
7. Explain how the situation described in the example affects one other CST principle in the broader global context.
8. Find a real example of a community in another country. a. Describe the community.
b. Explain how achieving the goal would improve the life of that community and why this matters.

explain why a particular place/product or app is attracting crime/fear of crime or being abused to commit crime, or being discriminatory

Assessments

Assessment 1 – Poster. Students will take on the role of a Community Safety Officer and design a public information poster/leaflet based on a specific theoretical framework for preventing crime. The poster/leaflet will use the selected theory to describe the causes of crime, and relevant crime prevention solutions.

The first assignment is to produce a poster/information sheet. There are two scenarios which you can base this on.

1. You can take on the role of a community safety officer or crime prevention agency/expert (someone tasked with responding to crime or disorder and coming up with solutions to particular crime problems in a given place). You can come up with a name for your agency or initiative e.g ‘Bede Park Fear reduction team’ or ‘Adam’s community safety experts’ etc. The community can be real as in a particular part of Leicester e.g Castle Ward or Bede Park or somewhere from your hometown, or the place can be entirely fictional.

So, your role would be to come up with a solution to prevent a particular type of crime or disorder. Examples could be violence, sexual assault, muggings, graffiti/vandalism, drug dealing/taking, burglary, knife crime, signal crimes, tackling fear of crime, burglary, terrorism, cybercrime…or anything else of your choosing.

You will want to clearly define the crime or disorder problem; explain what is happening and why it is a problem that needs attention. You will then offer solution(s) to help prevent/reduce the problem. Your outlining of the crime problem and your solutions must refer to appropriate criminological theories or concepts to justify your choices and explain why your interventions will be effective. Some examples of relevant theories or concepts are rational choice theory, routine activities theory, crime pattern theory, broken windows theory, strain theory, signal crimes perspective, control signals, responsibilisation strategies, defensible space, natural surveillance/eyes on the street, crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED), secured by design (SBD).

2. You can take on the role of a product/place/app designer (an independent expert or member of a police force) and offer your critique of an existing place (a building, a university campus, house, housing estate, town centre, park, bus stop, bar/club etc, hostile architecture) or ‘naïve’ product/app (amazon key, drones, smart cars, street signs, laptops, phones, smartwatches, police.uk crime maps) and explain why it is attracting crime/fear of crime or being abused to commit crime. Or in the case of hostile architecture, why it is being discriminatory towards certain social groups.

Or you can come up with your own original idea or design for a place/product/app and show how it addresses a particular crime problem.

So, your task is to explain why a particular place/product or app is attracting crime/fear of crime or being abused to commit crime, or being discriminatory. And you will want to offer design solutions to help prevent crime/reduce fear of crime or opportunities for their misuse. Your explanations for why the crime/fear of crime/misuse is happening and your solutions must refer to appropriate criminological theories or concepts to justify your choices and explain why your interventions will be effective. Some examples of relevant theories or concepts – rational choice theory, routine activities theory, broken windows theory, crime pattern theory, signal crimes perspective, control signals, responsibilisation strategies, defensible space, natural surveillance/eyes on the street, crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED), secured by design (SBD).

What you need to produce:
1. A one-page poster using MS Word (check google for instructions for how to create posters using MS Word). Posters can be made in landscape (horizontal) or portrait (vertical) mode.
2. Posters should be a single page. There should also be an additional page for references.
3. The poster should contain approximately 1000 words of content.
4. What is important is that you provide enough explanation of the problem and your solutions, and you relate these to appropriate criminological theories. Questions to think about: have you explained the theories in enough depth and detail? Is the poster easy to understand? Does it make sense? Does it look appealing and attract readers?
5. Provide evidence to support your points. Referencing should be done within text e.g (Name, Year). Quotes can be used but must be referenced correctly e.g “…” (Name, Year: pp)
6. Also provide full reference list on a separate page below your poster.
7. Posters should use google images (or even your own photographs if you want), and other relevant visual aids if applicable.
Assessment criteria:
1) Structure, use of language and clarity
2) Good understanding of relevant theories or concepts in explaining the crime/disorder problem.
3) Good understanding of relevant theories or concepts in offering preventative solutions to crime/disorder problem.
4) Good level of critical analysis shown toward relevant theories/ crime prevention measures.
5) Good alignment between definition of problem and chosen solutions e.g do the solutions fit the identified problem, are they appropriate, likely to work, cost effective, aesthetic, discriminatory, practical to implement, realistic?
6) Overall presentation and coherence
Examples of relevant theories :
• Rational choice theory
• Routine activities theory
• Crime pattern theory
• Social disorganisation theory
• Differential association theory
• Broken windows theory
• Control signals
• Defensible space

determine the extent to which economic inequality may impact the mental health of immigrants.

Aim and Outline
Aim: This study aims to determine the extent to which economic inequality may impact the mental
health of immigrants. The study will be undertaken based on the following objectives.
Outline
To identify the economic status of immigrants concerning employment/job opportunities, wage rates,
education and standards of living.
Compared to natives, immigrants have lower job opportunities and higher unemployment rates.
Besides, those who are working may receive discriminate wage rates due to their lower levels of
education, which eventually translates to lower standards of living (The Migration Observatory, 2021).
• To determine mental health illnesses that affect immigrants.
• To examine the association between economic inequality and mental health illness on
immigrants.
• To determine economic interventions to support the mental health and well-being of
immigrants.

Discuss the differences between establishing and abolishing operations and explain why you might manipulate these Motivating Operations as part of planned behavior change

For this assignment, you will provide a long answer essay response to each of the questions below.
For each question, you are encouraged to use the peer-reviewed resources provided throughout the
units to support your responses. Please do not copy and paste the whole question into the document.
Rather, provide the question number (1-4) and a brief heading that correlates with each section of the
grading rubric.
(Ex. 1. Motivating Operations and Differential Reinforcement)
1. Discuss the differences between establishing and abolishing operations and explain why you might
manipulate these Motivating Operations as part of planned behavior change. Next, explain each type
of Differential Reinforcement (DRO/DRI/DRA/DRL), and provide a basic example of how two DR
procedures can be used to promote changes in behavior. Finally, discuss how other procedures might
be incorporated to support a differential reinforcement approach as part of a behavior reduction
component to the plan.
2. First, define stimulus and stimulus class and provide an example that demonstrates your
understanding of the concept. Next, define the concept of stimulus control and how stimulus control is
established, differentiating between generalization and discrimination of stimuli. Finally, review
Jasmine’s Case Example (transcript attached below) to examine how you would use response and
stimulus prompt fading to transfer stimulus control to a more relevant stimulus, including the
application of differential reinforcement, as part of a maintenance plan for a target behavior.
3. First, discuss the basic concept of Verbal Behavior as an operant paradigm. Next, discuss each of
the elementary verbal operants, categorizing them according to their properties of point-to-point
correspondence, formal similarity, and appropriate reinforcement according to each operant’s specific
function. Finally, provide a unique example of each verbal operant to demonstrate your understanding
of how each is applied to the development of language.
4. Discuss the concept of Derived Stimulus Relations as it applies to the development of language and
cognition. Explain the similarities and differences of how derived stimulus relations and verbal
behavior contribute to the development of an individual’s language and cognition. Finally, identify the
three parts of stimulus equivalence, and explain how each part applies to the development of derived
stimulus relations in language.
The paper should:
1). Be at least 8-10 pages in length
2). Follow assignment directions (review grading rubric for best results).
3). Use correct APA formatting per the APA Publication Manual, 7th Edition.
*Title Page
*Use proper Headings for each question
