The conventional medicine (MD) has some big differences between the naturopathic medicine (NMD). MD usually views stress as something that will go away with time. An NMD will try to get to the bottom of why the stress is there, and have the patient change some of their lifestyle aspects to decrease the stress (What is naturopathy? – ntpagestv 2010). MD will usually view things from more of a modern medical standpoint, and include some sort of treatment involving medicine in the pharmaceutical form. NMD focuses more on balance and diet. NMD is the least invasive form of treatment, is more cost effective, and is more tailored to each patient (Sandford, 2022). Common healing techniques for Naturopathic offices usually entail message, dieting, getting sunlight, being outside, and more (What is naturopathy? – ntpagestv 2010).
Struggles that the Naturopathic profession has faced since it began in the early 1900’s include the increased focus on technology and pharmaceuticals. The development of drugs such as anti-inflammatories bring quick and effective relief to patients, which became favored over naturopathic ways (History of naturopathic medicine, n.d.). With the increased popularity of drugs and technology there became a decrease in self responsibility. The alleviation of disease and illness became most important, rather than the underlying cause of disease (History of naturopathic medicine, n.d.).

Describe a time when you successfully argued a point of view and explain why you believe you were successful.

Felisha loves the Dallas Cowboys. Her cousin, Eddie, doesn’t. Felisha is trying to convince him that they are going to win the Super Bowl this year. Felisha states:
“The Cowboys are ‘America’s Team’ for a reason. They have a long history of winning games. They have a huge fan base. They are one of the best teams in the NFC East division this year. And with their new recruits, they are bound to dominate on defense. All the sports analysts are predicting a fantastic season, and – ask any fan – we are Super Bowl bound, baby!” Describe a time when you successfully argued a point of view and explain why you believe you were successful.

2. Initial Post: Create a new thread and answer all three parts of the initial prompt below
Respond to the following prompts in your initial post:

Is Felisha’s argument sound or unsound? Use the concepts discussed in your textbook: a valid structure, true premises, and a sound or unsound argument.
Using the fallacies discussed in chapter 11 of your book, identify one fallacy (by name) in Felisha’s argument and explain why this fallacy is an illogical way to argue her conclusion.

How does the escalation of domestic violence during COVID-10 exemplify the concept of the continuum of violence? I

Week 4 GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE AND THE CONTINUUM OF VIOLENCE
Globally, one in three women will experience gender-based violence (GBV) at the hands of an intimate partner.  Data shows that since the outbreak of COVID-19, GBV in the form of domestic violence, particularly targeted against women and girls, has escalated.  In fact, domestic violence has been so pervasive during the pandemic that the UN has called it a “shadow pandemic” (UN, 2021).
Question #3.  How does the escalation of domestic violence during COVID-10 exemplify the concept of the continuum of violence? In answering this question address:  how women and girls have experienced GBV pre-conflict (pre-pandemic), conflict (during the pandemic) and how do you think women and girls might fare post-conflict (post-pandemic) as things get back to “normal” based on the status of women currently in society, e.g. whether you think levels of domestic violence will decrease as women and girls are able to spend more time outside of the home and the stress of the pandemic subsides.
WEEK #6 INTEGRATING A GENDER PERSPECTIVE-GENDER MAINSTREAMING AND GENDER ANALYSIS
A gender perspective is defined as “a way of assessing gender-based differences of women and men reflected in their social roles and interactions, in the distribution of power and access to resources” (NATO, 2012).  We will expand on that definition to include all genders, plus intersecting factors such as those mentioned previously such as race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, ageism, ability, income level or religious affiliation
In integrating a gender perspective, gender mainstreaming is a policy strategy which considers both women’s and men’s interests and concerns.  A gender analysis is an important aspect of gender mainstreaming as a systematic methodology for examining the differences in roles and norms for women and men, girls and boys; the different levels of power they hold; their differing needs, constraints, and opportunities; and the impact of these differences in their lives.
Question #5.  In applying a gender perspective, what were the impacts on different genders during the 2005 tsunami in Indonesia?  In answering this question, address the following: the capacities and vulnerabilities of women and men prior to and after the disaster; how women and men were affected and responded differently to the tsunami and to what extent; the different roles women and men played in ensuring the survival of themselves, their families and communities in the face of disaster; the different resources (economic, financial, physical, natural, other assets) and information that were available to women and men at the time of the disaster.

Describe how the audience in Dr. Kings speeches relate to the Alicia Garzas audience. Do you see a similarity or differences in the speeches and in the audience?

Instructions

Social Movements are only as important as the person leading them. The person(s) leading a social movement must have charisma and be able to captivate an audience. Political scientists and historians are taught to analyze body language, especially during debates and speeches.
For this assignment, you will watch Dr Martin Luther King’s

I Have a Dream
speech and a

speech by Alicia Garza of the Black Lives Matter movement
and answer questions listed below. Pay special attention to the following aspects in the two speeches.

Describe the Importance of body language while delivering the speech.
· Gestures, cadence and delivery style.
Answer the following:
1. Provide a summary of the two speeches.
2. Compare Dr. King’s leadership, charisma, power and passion to capture his audience to Alicia Garza’s speech. What are the similarities, if any? What are the differences, if any?
3. How does the location of the speeches support their messaging? Dr. Kings speech was held in a church and at the Lincoln Memorial, whereas today we have social networking and more avenues to relay messages. Does messaging make a difference?
4. Describe how the audience in Dr. Kings speeches relate to the Alicia Garzas audience. Do you see a similarity or differences in the speeches and in the audience?

How do we perceive the world around us? What catches our attention and makes us want to remember something?

Module Overview1.html
Social Cognition and Social Perception
How do we perceive the world around us? What catches our attention and makes us want to remember something? Why do we make some decisions on the spot while others take much longer to make? These are all questions asked by social cognition theorists.
Social cognition is defined as how we think about the social world and how we process the information that we receive. It deeply involves the field of cognitive psychology and helps us understand why we make the choices that we do (Fiske, 2019). One of the key topics studied by social cognition researchers are schemas. Schemas are the mental models that we create for the world (Fiske, 2019). For instance, we all have a schema or mental image of what a classroom looks like. You also have a schema for what happens in a doctor’s office because you have been in one. You may even have a schema for what Paris, France, is like, even if you have never been there. Social cognition studies how we create these schemas for events that we have experienced as well as for places we may have never been before.
The second topic from this module is social perception. Social perception is a component of social cognition and is focused on how we perceive and understand the behavior of others. One of the key topics studied by social perception theorists is nonverbal behaviors used in communication. The purpose of studying nonverbal behavior is to better understand and interpret another person’s body language so we can better communicate with them (Kassin et al., 2021).
Another topic studied by social perception theorists is attribution theory. Attribution theory, made famous by Fritz Heider, helps us find the source of a person’s behavior (Kassin et al., 2021). Heider stated that a person’s behavior is caused by an interaction between that person’s personality and their environment. However, Heider noted that if you are observing a person’s behavior, you tend to assume that their behavior is caused by their personality and not by their environment (Cialdini & Griskevicius, 2019). Simply put, if you are rushing because you are late for your train, a stranger observing you might think that you are a person who is always in a hurry even if this is an uncommon occurrence for you.
Social cognition and social perception theories are so essential to the field of social psychology that they can be found in every module in the course. These two topics can be used to help us understand behaviors such as prejudice and aggression, as well as more positive topics such as empathy and helping. There is hardly a topic in this course that has not been impacted by these two theories.

Consider the skills you have developed in the process of doing critical analysis as strategies for understanding your goals. How might those skills be used to address issues in globalization?

Overview
For this activity, you will consider influences on constructive engagement with your topic. You will also suggest ways that critical analysis can be used to meet personal and professional goals. This activity contributes to your draft of the Critical Analysis section of your project. It also provides an opportunity to obtain valuable feedback from your instructor that you can incorporate into your project submission.
Directions
In this activity, you will work on the second part of the critical analysis of your topic in globalization. You should consider the feedback from your instructor on the previous activities to inform this assignment. Throughout the writing process, you will support your analysis with reliable evidence from varied sources. You should continue to gather the sources you will integrate into your project. These sources will include two resources from the module resource sections of this course and two resources that you find through your own research using the Shapiro Library. It may be beneficial to identify more than the number of sources required for the project so that you can eventually choose the most useful and credible ones. For this activity, you will assess factors that may influence constructive engagement with your topic and then explain one potential obstacle that could interfere with that engagement. Finally, you will recommend strategies for using critical analysis skills for meeting personal and professional goals.
You are not required to answer each question below the rubric criteria but may use them to better understand the criteria and guide your thinking.
Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:

Integrate reliable evidence from varied sources throughout your paper to support your analysis.

It is important to draw from a more diverse pool of perspectives from varied sources to support the analysis. This is different from the Citations and Attributions rubric criterion.
Reliable evidence from varied sources should be interwoven throughout the paper itself, while citing and attributing sources will be represented as APA in-text citations and a reference list at the end of your work.
You will be evaluated on both criteria.

Assess at least two significant factors that could impact your topic, such as biases, beliefs, assumptions, and/or values.

Determine factors that might influence society’s engagement with your topic. What might impact their perceptions of the topic or how they talk about it?

Explain how at least one potential obstacle could interfere with the population’s engagement with your topic.

In the previous activity, you identified elements of your topic that present opportunities for change. Now, determine a possible obstacle that could interfere with this constructive engagement.

Recommend strategies for using this kind of critical analysis for meeting your personal and professional goals.

Consider the skills you have developed in the process of doing critical analysis as strategies for understanding your goals. How might those skills be used to address issues in globalization? How could they be used to address the day-to-day responsibilities or questions faced by yourself as well as practitioners in your field or discipline?

What to Submit
Submit your short paper as a 1- to 2-page Microsoft Word document with double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, and one-inch margins. Sources should be cited according to APA style. Consult the Shapiro Library APA Style Guide for more information on citations.

Ethical Dilemma: Determining Moral Behavior

Situation 1

You are a manager of a retail store. The owner of the store gives you permission to hire a fellow classmate to help out. One day you see the classmate take some clothing from the store. When confronted by you, the peer laughs it off and says the owner is insured, no one is hurt, and it was under $100, “Besides, ” says your acquaintance, “friends stick together, right?” What would you do?

Situation 2

You have a best friend who has confessed a terrible secret to you. Today the man is married and has two children. He has a good family, has a good life, and is a good citizen. However, 14 years earlier he killed a woman. A homeless person was accused of the crime but died before he could be tried and punished. Nothing good can come of this man’s confession. His family will suffer, and no one is at risk of being mistaken as the murderer. What would you advise him to do?
Determining Moral Behavior-Assignment

*Please do both assignments*

1. Write an essay on (or discuss) whether civil disobedience is ever justified. Discuss war protesters or antiabortion activists who are arrested for trespassing and so on. If you believe that civil disobedience might be justified, when and in what circumstances would be acceptable?

2. Write an essay on (or discuss) how the government should distribute societal resources such as education and healthcare. How would you answer the argument of a couple who did not believe they should have to pay school taxes because they have no children? What about the argument that rich school districts should share their wealth with poor districts (keeping in mind that those who pay higher taxes in that district might have moved there because of the reputation of the school)? What are the arguments for and against universal healthcare?
